I prefer the soft red wheat better and the rickhouse is way better. For the money they are a buy the Rickhouse is an occasional buy I have other options at this higher price point that I’d rather have. Nice review. Enjoy🥃🥃🥃
I have two bottles of the soft red wheat at rickhouse proof. I haven't tried the bottle in bond or the rye versions. I enjoyed them at the higher proof.
I have the rick house proof from Ben Holladay in addition to these 2. I got them when they first hit Total Wine. When I crack them open I'll try to see if I get the same notes. Thanks for all the extra info on this. I had no idea MGP owned them at one point.
Nice review! I also prefer the rye mashbill over the wheat mashbill. I thought it was good but pretty normal. I'm a big fan of their single barrels though.
Haven't had them, I just got 2 many currently unopened bottles that I been needing to get 2 so I knew I would not get to open them for a while so I said maybe one day, with the hopes I'd try then at a friend's b4 spending on them. Just being more selective in 2023/24 vs in the past.. "Oh this is new and hyped I guess I'll get them all, lol"
@@whiskeyisajourney yup, probably 15ish bucks cheaper. Great idea for a 1 minute segment after your review videos where you bring out comparison bottles on the same price range/value range and say I like these green river offerings for an even better value bc of xyz or no xyz leave it at that. Or it's a great bottle these are comparison bottles you might try if you like this one. Short and sweet. On your sip or skip videos, if it's a skip you say I like these other bottles better or I'd like to instead spend that same money and try this new bottle etc. Then those 1 minute segments you can put out as shorts also maybe? Just an idea you can make the idea better I'm sure.
I think the hype around them stems from being a smaller, independent distillery outside Kentucky making a familiar Kentucky profile rather than younger, grain-forward whiskey. And in some ways, I think that's the problem. It's not unique or remarkable. If this was from Kentucky, we would think it was pretty middle of the road bourbon. I imagine people trying what they see is a Missouri distillery they've never heard of, assuming it's "craft", and expecting something a little "off" are pleasantly surprised that it's so familiar, so they talk it up. I have heard some single barrel picks are special, and their Ancient Cave releases are pretty unique. The Bourbon Lore pick was hyped up as a carefully curated blend of particular barrels which was supposed to be unique and excellent. So, that's not to say they don't make some of those things, but I think their shelfers are solid but a bit overpriced for what they are.
Based on the reviews -- reviews that haven't enticed me to buy -- I hadn't been able to figure out why the hype for these. So thanks for the explanation on the hype. A well-regarded whiskeytube reviewer tried the Holladay Soft Red Wheat BiB in a double blind -- where he had no idea what distillery it was from -- and said, "Coming off very youthful ... I'm not diggin' this ... if I had to guess I would say it's a 4- to 5-year product ... if I was paying for this I'm hoping is isn't more than $35."
Just found the soft red wheat and the bourbon. Ended up getting the soft red wheat, and after tasting it, I recommend not getting it at $60. Glad I didn't get the other one. Save your money and get a maker's mark , larceny, weller if you can find it. Even Evan Williams bib is far better imo.
That is unfortunate that you didn't like it. Good alternative suggestions. Maybe this bottle will work well in cocktails? I know $60 is a lot for a mixer, but maybe you can salvage it somehow. Cheers!
I guess both Makers and Hollady both use red winter wheat....but makers is %16 wheat and holladay %15 wheat. So I imagine you get a slightly better wheat taste with the Makers. Since the Makers is also cheaper it is a plus...but the best would be Makers 46. Get that extra flavor with the extra aging with the staves.
I thought the soft red wheat was good, but it was too soft. The price point of the other bottle is a little high, but it does have a good balance of flavors.
Thanks!
Thanks Chris. You are in for 1 in September. Best of luck.
I love how he lists the price! Plus, very calm and descriptive! Gonna subscribe to listen to his other vids
Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
Great trustworthy channel!
Thanks. Cheers!

A lot of people are saying the rickhouse release is a must try. I'll keep my eye out for it. Cheers!
I just ordered the Rickhouse and can’t wait to try it!
I keep seeing people rave about this distillery and started seeing them on shelves in CT. I guess I'll have to check them out!
I'm seriously going to keep my eye out for the higher proof offering. Based on what people are saying, it looks like that's the bottle to get
I have two bottles of the soft red wheat at rickhouse proof. I haven't tried the bottle in bond or the rye versions. I enjoyed them at the higher proof.
The higher proof looks like it's the popular choice. I need to find those bottles and give them a shot.

It looks like the high proof bottles are the ones to get. If I see them I'm going to get them.
@@whiskeyisajourneyif you do we can compare batch numbers. Eventually then I’ll figure out a way to get you samples.
Holy cow, I guess pricing is pretty good in comparison. Nice video, enjoyed the review!
Thanks! I appreciate it. Cheers!
You would likely enjoy the Rickhouse proof version of each of these. The soft red wheat stands up to Weller full proof IMO
Based on what people are saying it looks like the rickhouse proof is the way to go. I'll keep an eye out for it. Cheers!
Nice review! I also prefer the rye mashbill over the wheat mashbill. I thought it was good but pretty normal. I'm a big fan of their single barrels though.
Like I mentioned in other comments, they are good enough to keep looking for something different from them. Something higher proof.
I love Holladay but the SRW is one of my Favs great Video.
Cheers!
Not only had I not heard of Holladay but have not heard of Missouri bourbon. From your review, I'll see if it is in my area! I'd like to try these.
I think they are worth a try. I want to try something higher proof from them.
Both expressions have a Rickhouse proof version that is fantastic
I need to try those. You are not the only one saying that same thing.
From STL and love this stuff. Rickhouse proof isn’t the same - but still good.
Also “Missouri Straight Whiskey” has to have all components made in Missouri. They have special editions only at their local store, north of KCMO.
I liked it enough to keep looking at the brand. Probably something higher proof.
Ben Hollyday - Bottled In Bond - (White Bottle)
I am half way through the bottle.
It's good for the price. Fruity. 🥃🇺🇸👌🏽
I'll be buying another one.
I think I like this enough to look for other high proof bottles from them. People are suggesting those are better than the standard release.
@@whiskeyisajourney It's harder to get. I would do the same.
The area it was made used to be a tobacco growing farm
Oh that's cool. I didn't know that. Sounds like it would be a large piece of property.

I like the Green River offerings more and if I'm not mistaken they are less expensive.

Ben Holladay on sale for $49.99 at Binny's.
I like this enough to explore more from them. Looking for the higher proof version.
have never seen Holladay in the wild, am interested in the high rye.
I was a little surprised I liked the high rye more than the soft red wheat. I think they are both worth a taste.
Peter - what reasonable prices wheaters do you recommend?
Green River wheated bourbon, Makers Mark and Bardstown Origin Series. I think all 3 of them are good.
@@whiskeyisajourney Thank you sir
I can see why there is a $20 price difference. Surprised to see an only 0.25 difference in rating.
