    I have 3 cats: a5 yr old female seal point mink bicolor, a 3 yr old traditional blue point and a 21 wk old Maine Coon kitten. Introductions have been harder this time than ever before and we've introduced lots of cats. Peace and harmony will come. Love my brushing time with all 3 - very peaceful. Litter box scooping - not my favorite thing but hey- it has to be done. You get used to it. The pros of these 3 beautiful babies definitely outweigh the cons.

      I always had the impression that cat owners were weird losers and crazy loners 🥸
      that changed completely when a stray cat mom chose me and gave two of her 1 day old kitten to me 8 years ago...!
      today I can attest that CATS ARE A MAN"S BEST FRIEND.... dogs are just slaves.

    Another great video! My husband and I are seniors, and decided about fifteen years ago when our last cat died, that were no longer going to get pets since we got into traveling as well as our grandchildren. With our grandchildren growing up, going to college, and becoming teenagers, (coupled with all of the hassles of travel) - we reversed our decision and got a pure bred rag doll a year ago on the fourth of July! He is EVERYTHING you said, and makes us laugh, as well as gives us love daily! Although we love dogs and cats, we will stick with our Maestro rag doll for all the reasons you cited! Both of your rag dolls are absolutely beautiful. Ours is a blue point neutered boy!

    The cat that showed up in my yard was just a small kitten in freezing weather and all alone. She was terrified of me but hungry. I finally got her to stay in the garage but she quickly did the other cat thing and several months later I now have 4 small kittens and her 😂 ... well... I intend to get them to come back in the house and it is starting to work I believe. All of the kittens are now coming for scratches and momma is coming in for short visits but taking longer to go back out. I never planned on 1 much less 5! 😂❤❤❤❤❤

    Always a pleasure seeing Teemo and Arya. They have kept me going when my heart had been shattered this past year.
    After saying goodbye to all four of our senior kitties within a nine month span, we’ve welcomed a young Bengal boy, Keanu Ku’uipo to our home. He’s unfortunately cat aggressive so he will be our sole furry family member.

There was no keeping that boy out of the plant room, even when he knocked one over and sat looking at us in the branches like "what? I am cat. Are you surprised?" Your cats are adorable. We have 8 and I consider them all rescues. Two litters were born under our (manufactured) home. Max & Mushu are from the first litter. Some six years later another litter from (of course) different parents gave us Twinkle, Miss Nikki, Smokie, Ariel & their brother Stryder. Now the eighth was a stray tomcat who finally let me pet him after nine months of feeding him outside (when he wasn't out looking for females). After all that time one day he came for food a bit beat up so I scooped him up & brought him inside where he remains today. Mikey is a black cat who is loving & cuddly.

    We have 2 Ragdoll cats. Comments - yes they are good at killing insects in the house however that means they jump onto the blinds if a fly gets there, which damages the blinds, not great. You are also tied with house cats regarding ensuring they can't go outside or through windows, it is a bit of a burden; you can't go out and spend a night away as their litter needs cleaning twice a day. They like water, like a running tap. They clawed at the carpet for their first year but have not stopped that (phew!).
    They are adorable, affectionate, lovable, we love the little darlings and they are good company. As they are from the same litter; they play fight each day which is good for exercise!
    Make sure you stop them coming in when you go to the toilet or they will try to get in the bowl!!

      Your point about the windows is a really good one, and it’s one of my biggest sources of stress and worry with my cats. I live in an apartment on the 4th floor (5th floor in American) so it would be really dangerous for my cats to go out of the windows. Unfortunately they seem to think they can fly, and are constantly trying to get out in order to chase all the birds and squirrels that are so temptingly placed in the big old oak tree right outside my window (but far enough away that they defffffinitely cannot just leap onto it, despite what they might think)!
      I’m in the UK where window screens are weirdly not a thing (we do still have flies/mosquitoes/other kinds of flying and crawly bugs, so I don’t know why!), and when I got my cats last May I initially just had some of these netting fabric screens that attach with adhesive velcro strips on the window frames I’d bought the previous summer to deal with an awful lot of flies, and moths at night when I had the windows open and lights on - fine for stopping bugs getting in, but I quickly realised that my Maine Coon cats would need something a hell of a lot stronger to stop them getting out! I found a company called Streme here who will sell you custom sized aluminium frames with “solar pet mesh” (a vinyl coated polyester resistant to claws) filling them (I’m also in a west-facing flat that gets roasting hot whenever the sun shines, so keeping the windows closed or only open a crack on the safety latch is not an option!), and they’ve been a literal life-saver and well worth the money.
      The only problem is, as my cats are nearly 18 months old and Harvey is now almost 8kg/18lbs (entirely normal for Maine Coons, for anyone wondering - he’s not overweight, he’s just big and long!), he’s now learning how he can pull the screen away from the window! 🙀 (they have an adhesive magnetic strip all around the window frames that they snap on to - they had options for mounting with hinges but I have zero clearance above and to one side so that wasn’t an option). He either stands up like a person and reaches up with his paws with claws extended (often ready to swipe at any insects on the other side!), or reaches out with a paw from the top perch of his cat tower right next to the window… then if he doesn’t retract his claws first, just pulling away with his bodyweight can dislodge the whole screen and send it crashing down (and leaving the window wide open 🙀😬😱). I now have to make sure the windows are either closed or on the safety latch in the living room when I go to bed, and in both rooms if I’m leaving the house for any length of time (including just to check my post downstairs/empty the bins!), and it’s a constant source of worry.

    CB this was a great video, and you are spot-on that our cats can be there for us in tough times. Austen and Jasper were tuned in to my recent health situation before I was! I had to peel Jasper off me, and then he would lurk around waiting for his next opportunity to climb back on me. When I would wake up from a nap, he was right there. Cats also can get along well with other animals. Aussie and Jasper’s baby sister Dachshund, Hildy, who came home when the boys were 4 months old, was immediately accepted and my little trio are all best friends. Siamese are very “doggy” and I have had them successfully wrangle a Weimaraner, Two Springer Spaniels, and now a Standard Smooth Dachshund! I will stop gushing over my fur kids now! There are times when cats can be high maintenance too, especially when you have more than one furball, it becomes a bit daunting to be cleaning their litter boxes.
    I own 3, so I have 4 littwr boxes to maintain. I use degradeable natural wood pellets instead of sand for litter. I sift away the used and broken ones daily, and wash and clean them out totally every week, as cats are fastiduously clean and don't like using filthy litter boxes. So I make sure the cat lines that absorb their urine are also replaced regularly as needed.
    But yes, it sure beats the hell out of taking your dog out for a walk to do his #1 or #2 outside, which came be pleasant on very hot poor cold days.

      You can trim their claws 😊 The Cat Butler has a great video on claw trimming - I bought the same small clippers he recommended in that video, and I’ve been regularly trimming my cats’ claws since I got them last May (just the front ones for my cats - their back ones don’t get as sharp, I guess because they’re tearing up my floors with them when they race around, as well as when they’re climbing their cat tree 😸)
      I almost never get scratched by my cats now… I got some more scratches when they were kittens and still learning how to properly be cats, and they would scratch me accidentally while playing or if they lost their balance while climbing on me (plus kitten claws are much sharper because they’re exerting pressure on a much smaller surface area at the tip!), but they’re very good at using “soft paws” with me now 😽 Admittedly one’s better than the other… Nikita will get overexcited and swipe for things I’m holding in my hand (especially if it’s a treat) and sometimes forget! She’s also less comfortable with me trimming her claws than her brother Harvey is, so they tend to get longer than his more often… she then gets snagged and caught on things when her claws are long, so it’s better for everyone if I manage to keep the ends trimmed!

    I am hoping to get ragdolls as soon as I can once I'm out of college because I have had depression all my life and though my situation is better now, I often find myself feeling lonely and sad during college as making friends can be hard and even as an introvert, you still need some social interaction. Ragdolls are expensive and I would like to know if it's because they're human bred cats? Some human bred animals have issues such as pugs and I think the cats with real tiny ears. I know animals can get expensive but I would like to get them shortly after I graduate, probably within six months to a year. What health issues did you have with Arya and Teemo? Do you also suggest ragdolls as first cats to own or store/adoption ones? Since this will be the first time I own cats, I really want to give them the best life possible. Thank you!

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah ragdolls are expensive because its human bred. They are a healthy breed. The breeders have made sure to keep the genetics diverse and they bred out the bad genes. Just remember to get a ragdoll from a reputable breeder. These breeders try to make healthy kittens and have a health guarantee. Avoid backyard breeders. I haven't had any health issues with Teemo and Arya, but you can afford it pet insurance is a life saver. Ragdolls are definitely easier to own as they have been bred to be companions to us humans.

    Hello, thank you for this video :) As I´ve never owned cat before, I would like to ask one additional question about pros and cost, which is about sleep. If or how cat in your household (especially in smaller apartment) could affect your sleep quality? Dont get me wrong, sleeping with your kitty seem like a wonderful experience, however Im little bit worried if cats arent constantly waking you up during night or in early morning or they arent overdemanding of your attention when your sleep in separate rooms. Thanks!

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey that is a good question! I usually sleep in a separate room. But the times I have slept with them they have not bothered me. I think my cats are just more mellow in general. This could be part of the ragdoll breed. I have seen some cats not as nice for your sleep. I think it depends on an individual basis on the breed as well. Hope that helps!

    How do we keep cats from getting worms such as ringworms?

    • @chaosmerchant
      @chaosmerchant 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Keep them fully inside

    • @HaunaMyKiki
      @HaunaMyKiki 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fun fact: Ringworms are a misnomer because they're not worms at all! It's a fungus which is spread from coming in contact with its spores. Keep the surfaces of your home (including fabrics) as routinely clean as possible, and sanitize any items your cat comes into contact with regularly... _especially_ after having a visiting animal in your home.
      As far as _actual_ worms go....most worms infect a secondary host before reaching your cat. Either through small prey your cat hunts which carries the parasite, or fleas they accidentally ingest. So best thing to do is put your cat on a routine flea medication and try to prevent them from eating local wildlife.

    I did 2 years of research and spreadsheet all the information I thought needed before adopting a kitten and it was the most horrible experience. Poor baby cried and cried the first night and while the breeder assured me it was normal I still took him home because I felt bad that he was hurting (came from a big family/household with a lot of cats). Even though I WFH and can give 90% of my time to a kitten it wasn't enough. People aren't joking when they say get two. Going to wait awhile and prepare more and probably get an adult in a couple years.
    Unfortunately probably won't be a ragdoll since you don't find those as adults often unless it's a retired queen (from what I've heard).
