  • During the 2024 Million Dollar Game on Hustler Casino Live, the star-studded field of businessmen and pros created a plethora of huge pots and spectacular hands. Tom Dwan and Peter headlined many of these, including one where Peter rivers a boat against Dwan and decides to fire out a huge value bet. Can Dwan make the right fold or will Peter milk him for thousands and thousands of dollars once more?
When you are looking for bluffs on the river you should use your hands that would block your opponent’s strongest holdings. A great example is when you have a counterfeited bottom two pair, you will be blocking a lot of the full houses that your opponent could have.
Tom Dwan ‘durrrr’ from his online days, is an American professional poker player. He is a favorite poker player for many around the world as they would watch him battle in the highest stakes cash games on Full Tilt Poker before poker’s Black Friday hit & he is known for his fearless style and crazy bluffs. He was a regular on Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker. Today, Tom is mostly known to play in high stakes private games in Asia. He’s often seen on the Triton poker tour playing in the largest buy-in poker tournaments in the world. He currently has over $6,800,000 in live tournament earnings which puts him in the top 250 on the all time money list. Since 2008, He’s played on over 210 live cash game streams and has won over $4,000,000. He is ranked in the top 2 biggest live cash game winners ever as reported by TrackingPoker.
Peter is a Chinese high stakes poker player and an avid pumpkin eater according to the commentators. He has made multiple appearances on televised cash game shows such as Hustler Casino Live and Bally Poker Live and he is known to want to play any stakes that are on offer. Since 2022, Peter has played on over 20 live cash game streams and has won over $3,400,000. He’s ranked in the top 3 biggest live cash game winners as reported by TrackingPoker.
Hustler Casino Live is a full-scale, high-value poker production. Close to a million dollars was spent transforming the casino’s high-limit poker room, the Crystal Room, into the set of this new state-of-the-art live poker show. Hustler Casino Live looks more like coverage of a TV broadcast sporting event and appeals to those beyond the poker community, They host regular poker streams such as ‘Max Pain Monday’ and ‘Thirsty Thursday’. Some notable poker players to have appeared on the show are Phil Ivey ‘The Tiger Woods of Poker’ ‘RaiseOnce’, Tom Dwan ’durrrr’, Phil Hellmuth ‘The Poker Brat’, Chris Moneymaker, Doug Polk ‘WCGRider, Garrett Adelstein ‘Gman’, Tony Guoga ‘Tony G’ and many more.
This was from the first day of the 2024 edition of the highly anticipated Million Dollar Game, which had a $1,000,000 minimum buy-in. The game was streamed for four evenings straight and featured an array of professionals and businessmen competing against one another. The players included: Doug Polk, Tom Dwan, Alan Keating, Santhosh Suvarna, Peter, Hook, Brandon Steven, Stanley, Rahul, Steve, Texas Mike, Rahul and a mysterious guest called Thomas.
    🔍 Preflop:
With the $2,000 straddle on, Peter limps under the gun with pocket sevens. Action Dan raises to $6,000 from the hijack with A8o. Tom Dwan calls from the button with 97 of hearts and Peter comes along with his walking sticks.
    💸 Flop - Kc 9s 7c:
Peter flops the jackpot with his pocket pair on the king-high connected board, as he has hit a set. He checks to the preflop raiser Action Dan, who makes a continuation bet of $12,000 with just one overcard, a backdoor straight draw, and a backdoor flush draw. Dwan doesn’t know it yet, but the flop is an absolute disaster for him, as he has hit bottom two pair with his suited one-gapper. He raises to $46,000, which Peter just calls. Dan folds, and they go to the turn heads-up.
    💣 Turn - Qh:
The queen of hearts on the turn brings in jack-ten for the nut straight. Peter checks again with bottom set. Dwan checks back with his vulnerable bottom two pair.
    🌊 River - Kd:
The river brings a board-pairing king of diamonds, which improves Peter to a full house and counterfeits Dwan's two pair. Peter fires out a bet of $70,000. Dwan only has a bluff catcher now, but will he be able to figure this hand out and fold or will he pay Peter off? Stay tuned until the end of this poker video to find out!

Tom flats pre, that's most AK and some KQ out of range. He raises on the flop against the pre-flop raiser who can easily have AK or KQ, so that's lone Kx combos out of his range like KJ. So what's left? Tom's range on flop is K9, some 99, 77, 97, and some flush/straight draw combos. He checks back turn which then caps his range, he can't have JT, 99, or 77 because it's losing too much value to not bet even if JT did come in. By river, Tom's range is K9 for nutted hands and that's it. He has QcJc, QcTc, QsJs, and QsTs for bluff catchers that would take his line so he has some Queens in range. What's more, Peter's line and sizing smells like KJ or KT from a mile away, so if he's bluffing it's better to call with QJ or QT that block Peter's combos of those hands. Disagree with 97 shoving river after checking the turn, I think Tom has no shoves in range and just folds 9s and calls K9 and some Queens depending on sizing.

If Dwan shoves river, can Peter even call with 77 here?
At that point he'd surely only be beating bluffs as I doubt Dwan would be shoving anything worse than 77 for value after facing 60% pot on the river. Dwan is obviously capable of bluff-shoving river in this spot, but his shoving range facing Peter's bet has a whole lot of K9, KQ, 99, with his only natural bluffs being (as Jonathan points out) stuff like 97.
Jonathan says that if Dwan shoves as a bluff then he loses all his money, but I'm not sure Peter can even call with 77.

On the flop if you RR all GSFD and better draws, you can RR all sets except 7h7d (assuming you have no KK). I just think it's overplaying to RR hands like 6c5c into a c-bet and raise. I think you can shove all three 99 by shoving your OEFD and best GSFD, but pure call 77 along with your worse GSFD.

Dwan blunders the turn - he needs to bet and charge draws. Peter isn't open limping KQ, 99, or JTs (he would RFI). I believe 77 is the only value hand Peter can ever have that gets to the turn like this, but he will have several flush draws like weaker AXcc.

If you have an ace and a king in your starting hand, that eliminates a combo of Aces and Kings that your opponent can have. It does NOT mean that you opponent won’t show up with those hands at a low frequency, but in the long term when you have Ace King there’s a greater chance your opponent does not have aces and kings.
