30 hours in and slowly feeling the urge to 100% it. I'm having the best time in an open world since Mad Max. Sometimes with some tweaks the Ubisoft formula just suits. This is one of such cases.
Ubisoft's really good at making games that look amazing in videos. Like, I've played a bunch of their games, they always look great but I always get bored playing them, and yet when I see gameplay of this I still want to try it even knowing the feeling will be exactly the same. I feel like the whole company is basically carried by their art team.

Watchdogs 2 was super fun for me. I loved the gadgets and the hacking. Also the San Francisco they created was gorgeous.
exactly what i thought about assassin's creed unity, still one of the best looking AC, incredibly detailed but i couldn't bother to finish it since the story is just meh (the gameplay is alright compared to valhalla at least)
This is why I kinda get bored of FC5 very quickly, and even tho FC6 is now on gamepass as of recent, idk if I wanna try it.

Ubisoft are the greatest develepors in gaming history. Assassins Creed, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, Far Cry. All four are among the greatest game franchises ever. People still praise Rockstar Games after the piece of shit trainwreck that were GTA 5. Ubisoft have always been the most ambitious video game development studio, and it has mostly created masterpieces. There are some blunders, but they exist everywhere in the industry.

Agreed! After that the main issue for me is the lack of a Grab/shimmy option.Jumping is extremely cumbersome/janky and is really hard to try and be precise when trying to jump! I know you get a mount but i'm only like 3 hrs in and traversing isnt as fluid as id hoped.I am hoping that once I get my Ikran things will feel better! Also anyone else think the water effects look crappy on ps5?
@@paulrob08I’m about 6 hours in and still no Ikram. Granted I have been doing a lot of side quests and just general exploring of the map I feel like the Ikram should’ve been introduced earlier as some of the quests are a fair trek away. I 100% agree about the third person. What is the point in getting all these cosmetic skins from pre-ordering or from the item shop (which is a whole other issue in of itself) if I only get to see them when I’m in my menu? I am having a good time with the game and haven’t played a Ubisoft game in long time so I’m less used fo their main game tropes. Apologies for the long winded reply!

I’ve said this before but I completely disagree and I don’t even like 1st person perspective like that. This is one game I can overlook that simply because of the world of Pandora is one of the most beautiful worlds created. From the plant life to all the animals and everything populating the world. It’s something that imo begs to be played in 1st person there’s so many moments in this game that are just simply Amazing and I don’t think it’ll feel or be experienced the same in third person
@@wfnlegz2323Agreed! This is one of the few games that works better as a first-person. One thing I noticed since playing this game is that third-person makes it very easy to miss the world because you're trying to focus on yourself.
An unbelievable looking game, but the gameplay really needed to have higher priority. They made this HUGE map that looks so good, but I can’t be bothered to play it because the combat really gets old quick really the entire gameplay

The first film did at least spend more than 2 minutes setting up some characters.
Rather than doing one single minute long villain introduction and then an 8 year time skip. We get no investment in anything going on, we don't experience the indoctrination or the gaslighting, there's no belief the villain is anything other than "the villain"

I just love that every single time there's even a hint in the game that you get to fight with your Na'Vi dudes, they write it so they always have to leave/stayback or some other dumb thing. They litterally gave the Na'Vi ZERO AI.
Fun fact for Later in the game, there’s a skill you can get where arrows won’t break on impact and you will be able to get them back, and it will show the arrows in the enemies haha which is pretty cool
This game was really only made for two types of people. Those who like Far Cry and those who like the movies. I myself, am a huge fan of the movies and think this game does an incredible job of replicating the vibe from them. I also had no expectations going into the game other than the fact that I want to run around as one of the Na'vi and fly on an Ikran. And that's exactly what i've been doing. For the past 38 hours. I'm just happy to be there, ya know? I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who simply wants to experience the world of Pandora or another Far Cry game. Either way it's a beautiful game to play with an interesting environment to explore but that's pretty much all it's got going for itself.

It’s exactly why I decided to buy it. I just want the 9ft-parkouring-stealth-killer experience that I loved in the films. Plus flying. The story is whatever, but the environment and immersive overshadows it. Also, it’s co-op!! Who doesn’t wanna flame people by no-scoping with short-bows, fly around to then dive off and be caught again. It’s just good.

About the store: you can get the items for free, there's someone in the hometree that you do daily and weekly challenges and use that currency to get store items.
Also there's so much stuff to find when exploring, I really don't get why there's a shop at all. It sucks. Call them out for it. yet, one of the few cases, where all you find in-game is nice enough.
@@phm6834Thats cool. Reminds me of Far Cry 5 where there was a store and premium currency, but everything was obtainable for free with the cash you earn during the game instead. Even the premium currency was scattered throughout the map in safes. Ubisoft handles that pretty well sometimes.

At least Unisoft is a better game publisher than Gamemill entertainment who also published some of the worst 2023 games such as Skull Island Rise of Kong and The Walking Dead destinies.
I once had Gollum on my Christmas list, only to switch it out for the Avatar game after seeing enough videos of how unplayable it was (or still is); probably the wisest decision I've ever made. I imagine how funny it would be if a review for this game would say something like "At least it's not Gollum".
It is extremely playable, not sure where you are getting unplayable from? If you mean just not fun, that makes more sense. But it is a super polished experience.

Beauty is in the eye of beholder. Average game to many but to myself, and many other avatar fans it is absolutely amazing. I played for 6 hours yesterday and hardly did any quests just flying around the map and exploring and fighting random RDA. The combat could have had more depth, sure, melee finisher/animations, a slo mo aiming mode, etc would have been sweet to be sure. But this game is about as far as mid for me personally just because it is an incredibly immersive Pandora alone. Best straight up movie IP game I’ve ever played

To be fair, it diverges enough, especially in terms of exploration, since there are almost no hud markers/compass pings (optionally none at all), and every quest has both a description of the route to take and a guide book entry for finding the right, the rare version and conditions under which to find best versions of all items and animals.

What I would want in an avatar game would be one where you can explore the different environments, get different mounts - like those black panther things would be better at traversing the forest than a dragon - and get a cute alien waifu and treehouse.

If they’re just giving out to toruk makto out like it’s nothing it loses it’s meaning, and within 13 years Of each other? Jake being toruk is milked of its importance. They made us apart of an almost extinct clan so we’re already special in some way.
Riding a thanator might be a DLC (non canon) or something who knows, maybe there is clans who specialise in them so we might get them in future, who knows but at the moment, no.
Frontiers of Pandora is canon so they can’t just make us toruk. The first avatar game is not canon.
James Cameron is not only the Titanic guy. He is the Terminator and Aliens guy. So he is pretty amazing. The first avatar movie is awesome too. But the game is what you guys are saying. Unfortunatly is an ubisoft game. As a fan I wish some cool studio could have done it. But big franchises go after those crappy money maker studios for licesing games

If you play it, the game is absolutely outstanding. Most of the people commenting likely don't care for Far Cry/the Avatar franchise, or they simply haven't played it. My personal GotY for 2023.

Years ago, before the first avatar movie I had a dream with a lizard think just like the ones in avatar that spin to fly. Except the one in my dream was translucent and the sound it made while flying shattered teeth.
It’s Avatar, plays like Far Cry, and is made by freaking Ubisoft. I’d be genuinely surprised if the game was MORE than mid.

I disagree. I’m loving the game personally. Some of the quest design is less than inspired but just exploring the world and finding the collectibles and destroying RDA installations is the funnest Ubisoft has been in years.
What really makes a difference is the sheer lack of markers cluttering your screen, the map, everything. It’s very much exploration based and occasionally you’ll see a quest marker if you use Na’vi vision. It’s all a lot less intrusive than past Ubisoft games. And the fact you have to actually explore to find Na’vi Settlements, Resistance Camps etc. elevates it to me

I love this game, best game from unisoft in years. Hated the far cry games, havent enjoyed ac in many years.
Everything in this game feels far more natural. Taking down rda sites story wise makes more sense than compounds in far cry.
Traversing the world feels fast fun and fluid in a way ac hasnt been in years.
Story is mid (the movies stories are mid too) but the world is beautiful, and the lore and customs are cool and interesting.
Resource gathering is far more rewarding than in most games, making resources harder to find is and only needing a few is far better than needing to "collect 20"
Also play on exploration mode, there is no beaten path so you are always off of it. In other games i always question why is my character just running into the woods.
I agree. It's actually my personal GotY. Best thing I've played since Elden Ring, and it'll keep me busy for at least a couple of months. I think that it's absolutely wild how people are calling this game "mid". I'm typically against FPS games(the only other FPS I've ever enjoyed was Halo: Reach).

RDA are the villains, the sites, the test and the destruction of the world is the RDA which is a massive corporation. Like beating "the villain" of this game doesn't change anything another will take its place. And given the fact that the game takes place 1 year before the second movie clearly the war isn't over.
Also I think they missed the love and family aspects of the movies (which were mid too 😅) I was expecting to have a Canon love story in this due to it being a core part of the movies. I think having one character as a temporary member and canon love interest would have made the game feel less isolated.
@@nathanscott2871 that's sort of my point. "The villain" isn't important, they're just some face of a company, beating them means nothing because you don't feel personally invested in killing THAT GUY nor the company as a whole.
It just feels like a generic Far Cry villain, rant in front of camera for a few seconds, "ok now go do outposts for 6 hours until you kill them"
Ubisoft got brain broken when everyone liked Vaas in Far Cry 3 and they've literally never been able to move on from that in the last decade and just keep remaking the same game.

They felt very gamey, however I feel avatar, the "gamey" elements feel much more natural to what your character would be up to. Also the fact that I haven't played one for longer than 10hrs means that the "formula" hasn't been ingrained into me.
I get what you mean now, it's not a villain that's missing (that's the rda) it's an antagonist that's missing. An individual to oppose the player. I actually liked that there isn't one but I completely understand how people would want this.

While the game is probably mid for alot of people, but it feels like a good game to just sit back and relax, just shoot things and explore :). But i'm not paying full price, i've played far cry 3 and 4 so i know what to expect, i wont pay over 40 bucks for this game unfortunately, 40 bucks is reasonable i think.
The last couple far cry games were down to $20 sales within roughly 6 months of their releases, so if history repeats then it should be pretty heavily discounted before summer, and probably have some DLC by then too.
I’ll still play far cry games but I always wait, and by the time all the DLC is out for each one, you can always get them for $20 or less on a sale for the deluxe versions. Happens every time.
Funny I don't think this feels like far cry at all, I completed 2, hated 3, played about half of 4, didn't touch 5 and hated 6. This game everything feels less gamey I think. Like the rda sites exist for a reason in world and destroying them fits the narrative. Whereas radio towers and compounds felt very forced and a bit nonsensical within those worlds. Do it because the game demands you do it.

Honestly was kind of on board with the game up until the microtransactions bit. I've never seen any of the movies and barely played any Far Cry but I love the design of the environment and the fact you can play as a none human character. I wasn't expecting a master piece but perhaps it could have been a fun game. However the entire microtransactions in a single player game really killed my impression. If it goes on sale I might buy it cheap on sale one day but no way I am paying full price for a game with freenium pay to with in it.
Its cosmetic only no need to buy them unless you want it. They are not forcing you to buy them

I ended up refunding mine pretty much the same night after i played it a bit. It's alright but just something about it dont justify the $70+ imo. Feels more like a $45-$50 game at best

I’m getting that game for Christmas I’m so excited to see the game if it’s good or not I loved Avatar the way of water I just love the ocean view and new characters it’s very interesting when I watched it at the theaters in 3D on IMAX.

@@edtronel2955 I remember I watched Mind Pulp played Avatar 2009 game but the characters and the background looked creepy and weird. I think Avatar frontiers of Pandora is definitely way better than Avatar 2009 game. I kind of understand why people hate Avatar the way of water because the movie wasn’t released yet because of the whole Pandemic messed up the release date of the movie but if you hate me I still like 2 of the Avatar movies.

I love the game. It’s super fun and has an amazing atmosphere.
I think The game is definitely great as a exploration game full of lore.
But in terms of story it just follows the same mediocre one sided story writing.
Which is kind of a shame cause I thought a game format would of worked much better for Avatar story, but it’s works as a fun game I guess.

The Navi are unfortunately Rousseau "noble savage" archetypes. They're written as (stereotypical) allegories for indigenous humans. Clumsy, embarrassingly tacky allegories. They're near-flawless, almost perfectly moral beings who take only what they need from the forest. No more, no less. They praise every animal they kill for its "gifts to the people." They're at one with the land, have a connection to the natural world (quite literally with their USB-Tentacle ponytails), and so on and so forth.
That one bloke who went hardcore at you in his now-deleted comments kept talking about how fresh it is to have a franchise that shows humans as bad. I'd counter that Avatar does no such thing. The Navi ARE humans. They're blue-skinned, cat-faced humans from the smurfoquis tribe. Avatar makes no effort whatsoever to show humans as bad. Quite the opposite, in fact. It loves humans/humanoids, so long as they toe the line regarding nature and know their place.
Instead, Avatar tries to show that modern society, industry, and science are bad. Technology in Avatar always involves rotting plants, rancid critter corpses, dead earth, oil sludge pools, smoggy skies, and corruption. Science is shown to have nothing worthwhile to offer compared to the magic of nature, which fulfills all the needs of the noble Smurfoquis tribe. Every humanoid tied to modernity is shown to be a loveless, miserable sour-sack. The only happy, good-guy humanoids are living in nature, snacking on alien kale and "going native" with the smurfoquis. It's dull and heavy-handed storytelling.
TLDR: Sleipnirthe, I think you're right. Avatar is a one-sided, tedious, boring narrative. It's a preachy environmentalist fever-dream.
Avatar would be a lot better if it took a more nuanced approach to science versus nature, but then Cameron would have to get off his soap box and stop preaching. Can't have that.

Yea those messages are true in many ways but it’s a clearly exaggerated for the sake of the message and the movie to be entertaining it’s not obviously not a representation of actual beliefs. The point of the Navi being like that is a kind of what if scenario where if a human like species grew to be one with nature in a sci fi unrealistic way. On top of that the movies main purpose was to create the most advanced and immersive cgi world possible at the time and you are supposed to want to be there. If the story was too complex you risk audiences not wanting to immerse themselves in the world and missing the mark on the main point.
I get some people don’t “agree” with some stuff in the movie but it’s so weird this level of hate I see with so many of you and the care you have for humans being bad . What I honestly think it is is that for some reason the movie is making you insecure, whether you think it’s talking about you or you can’t identify with something that doesn’t look like you.

I don't care enough about Avatar to "hate" it. I find it disappointing. Oh sure, it's beautiful and visually stunning... but that's it. It's surface level deep, and that sucks. Also, I find the Rousseau philosophy stuff tedious.
Here, I'll give you some silliness: James Cameron's Avatar reminds me of Amish romance novels. There's a giant section in Books & Co. of nothing but them, and they're Rousseau "Noble Savage" as heck. In these books, the Amish are pure, simple people of the land. They take only what they need, farm organically, produce very little greenhouse gas, and have pious hearts. They live off the sweat of their brow, doing honest labor in the fields. Their children heed their elders, their adults have low divorce rates, and all is right in the land. "Oh, if only we could shed our soulless technology and modern lives! If only we could experience the bliss of the primitive! Put down that wretched cell phone and pick up that plow!"
I find all of the above bizarre. It's belittling to the Amish, who are put on pedestals as noble simpletons. It's belittling to modern society, which has accomplished a lot of good yet is demonized as foul and obscene. It's belittling to the intelligence of the reader, who is expected to bask in "the grass is always greener on the other side" rubbish. It's belittling to the trees, whose flesh is squandered as paper for these stories. Nobody wins. 😛
Avatar does the same thing with the smurfoquis tribe. It's the same hero worship of "primitiveness" and despising of modern technology and society (which is portrayed as hopelesslly corrupt and immoral)... only perhaps a bit funnier than the Amish novels, given that James Cameron relies on modern technology to make his visuals. Without the very modernity and industry that he tsk tsks, these films wouldn't exist at all.

I loved avatar when it first came out was blown away, but after I processed things and read reviews like critical drinker I realized it was all just really dumb and never bothered watching the next movie as it's more of the same.
The design for Avatar's aliens is like James Cameron saw a picture of X-Men's Nightcrawler and copied it.
If I had a nickel for every bad Avatar game released in 2023, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
My only problems with the game are 1: customising your character is pointless because it’s mostly in first person mode, and 2: the parkour sucks. But it’s still a pretty decent game
I'll be honest, I'm worn thin on the "It's a new race, let's oppress it!" storylines
