In case people are wondering why this train was being transport on a low-loader as opposed to railway in the Winter 2013/2014 Wales had some extremely bad storms (even by welsh standards) and the Cambrian Coast Line was damaged, in multiple places, along with other railways and roads in Wales (unfortunately I had finished my degree at Aberystwyth a few months earlier so I was unable to see the damage for myself). A train was stranded on the Cambrian Coast Line and had to be removed by road. One place it passed through was Dolgellau and I saw a comment, somewhere, pointing out it was the first train through Dolgellau since 1965 (and in actual fact the station was closed Mid-January. The above train was moved Mid January.
It's odd seeing a unit going over a level crossing in that direction. Shame it wasn't an AHB - "Drivers of long, slow vehicles are to contact the signaller before crossing" "Hello, signaller? I am at Barmouth AHB with 158831 requesting permission to cross." "Thank you driver, are the barriers not down for you?" "I'm going over the road with 158831"
I have heard of this but living in the US I did not believe the stories, in England in the 1960`s all the branch line railways were closed leaving lots of gaps in the track network so many train journeys now have to be linked by these road trains and then the train just rolls back on the track to complete it`s journey. Clever really .
lol i like your thinking but this was just an empty train that had been stranded due to storm damage on the line, being transported by road to a depot (train shed). the reality is normal buses, such as the T1 (previously X40 and 701) that has run ever since the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen line closed
Was that train transported down the coast to 'rejoin' the network south of Tywyn? There's no way it was going round the bend at the top of Dinas going inland!
Some one made a sick joke ive got the picture from the cambrian news this person wrote why is a class arriva 158 going through barmouth is the unit drunk and cant go on the track i manage to find the culprit and gave them a telling off the 158 was damaged and could not traval on the rails so it went all way to chester 60 miles well done to the lorry drivers to get it through barmouth
I don't get this video, why not just drive the train through on it's own? Wouldn't have been as long as it is on the lorry so there would've been less messing around.
Yeah m8, because there is no way this wasn't planned weeks in advance, signaller contacted and all rail line traffic halted until confirmation the truck had cleared the line 😂.

tom201090 ukjljjkkkkk
Paul Forde what is that supposed to mean...?
im suprised they even ran the trains. like ik its a db company and they always want to be there but damn
Wow I don't know how I got here, but I'm glad I did. That was awesome

Absolutely brilliant driving on the part of the drivers of BOTH lorries! Hats off to them!
Ron leitch i think there were 4 lorries in total. just that most people who watched this didn't watch part 1 for some reason lol
Don’t often see a train crossing a level crossing that way round
First went to Barmouth in 1959, when the High street was two way traffic, cant believe how narrow it looks now !!
I have heard of this but living in the US I did not believe the stories, in England in the 1960`s all the branch line railways were closed leaving lots of gaps in the track network so many train journeys now have to be linked by these road trains and then the train just rolls back on the track to complete it`s journey. marshalllucky That does not happen
@marshalllucky that isn’t true at all

oh yeah and this is in Barmouth in Wales, not England. the train was being transported to a train shed in Chester, just inside England however.
Top driving how on earth they got through here and along the hilly narrow and twisty roads along harbour sea wall I have no idea with that load
Hats off to these amazing drivers.
Diane Camara They're well 'trained' for this type of work.
Crosshead1 ha ha :)
@@RWL2012 Alleys, the proverbial DB's when it comes to moving the strange, the long and the heavy. Poetry in motion.
Came here to say exactly the same thing
That's why ARRIVA trains never arrive.... They're on the back of a lorry! Lol Those drivers are awesome 👍
I'm sure the drivers really didn't need the trucks to lift the train.....
They're strong enough to do it themselves
Beverley Pearson ff
I bet seeing the road narrows sign really cheered the driver up :-)
Peter Little lol
There was a storm in 2013 that flooded areas of Barmouth so the trains had to be transported. Also quite a few static caravans were destroyed.
Hot Wheels 126 poor holiday makers both there way home and caravans were destroyed or stranded
Thats something you dont see everyday!
They should put some commuters on it so they get where they are going on time
~Amazing drivers...fabulous job!
interesting to see a train going acrross its own crossing . lots of thought and planning this move .
how strong are they to do a 252.5 tonne grand central train
Was that train transported down the coast to 'rejoin' the network south of Tywyn? There's no way it was going round the bend at the top of Dinas going inland!
No, it went straight across to Chester apparently.
Forgot about the Bala road from Dolgellau!... Makes sense and pretty straight!
John Lewis DANG THATS LONG
MightyRam83 fyy
John Lewis why not just take it to Machynlleth or Shrewsbury
amazing how they know they can navigate these roads
The route is all pre planned and checked out, but that narrow, twisty bit out of the town must have been fun !!
These drivers are so "top of the range" that there is nothing they cannot do.
wow that's a site I thought I would never see

I've just come back from barmouth

so cool man
Why were they being transported by road?
Stuart Kenney Because the track was flooded and the trains were stuck
That's what you call a road train 😅
GBRfan 66 great joke

Trains cant run on roads you numpty
They used to at weymouth quay. Lol
SALUTE To the driver!
Allelys speciality is rail stock
What great drivers amazing
Great video but really what a stupid place for the other driver to stop an chat while over a level crossing 🤔
Remember the level crossing wasn't in use on the day
Yeah m8, because there is no way this wasn't planned weeks in advance, signaller contacted and all rail line traffic halted until confirmation the truck had cleared the line 😂.
Can i ask a silly question why ?
Because the Cambrian Coast line was storm damaged at Tywyn and two trains were trapped in Barmouth north of the damaged section.
Thankyou
+andy abrams "why"? and "?" ?
why
Pulling trains will be okay
Never heard of taking them by rail?? There again, one of the woes of privatization.
The line was blocked due to storm damage.
wind noise
zvictorone sorry next will be running a bit late today but stopping at Main Street only Donny scotlan
JIthinkthelasttwoyearsuy
why don't they fo by rail, lol?
Because the line was blocked!
Did anyone teach you about avoiding wind noise when filming, this was very amatuerish.
Ha ha ha! I took it on my phone, what do you expect? Broadcast quality? 😂😂😂
It's TH-cam, not Hollywood!
