      Productions hire firearms from other companies, and it is those companies who will modify firearms since they own them; Ian has been to one such company up in Canada, which is where the his video on the Jackhammer came from.
      Companies would not allow a production to mess around with one of their firearms too much, in part due to safety but also because they don't want their expensive firearms to get damaged.

    I'd love a series where Ian sits down with a costume/props designer where he talks about the real firearm and the designer talks about the motivation behind its design / modification to suit the characters.
    In this case the Bergman was likely chosen because it looks cool, but also because its curves accent the Mandolorian's armor and the models rarity is a reflection of the rarity of Mandolorian society in the Star Wars universe.

      @@Ugnutz Well, actually some Japanese blade smiths did import (superior) crucible steel from the Middle East, much like the vikings did centuries earlier. That is to say they wanted to use _the_ best available steel in their blades, regardless of the origin and manufacturing process.
      Ergo, a Japanese blade (e.g. a katana) made of _any_ steel(s) is still a Japanese blade. Technically and otherwise.
      Obviously, [in The Mandalorian] Beskar seems to be an order of magnitude better than any other steel. In the feudal period, crucible steel was definitely not as much superior than Tamahagane, but still significantly better. Considering the history and culture of Japanese blade making, I would actually argue that now, hand-forging a katana using the best available, i.e., modern industrially produced steel would honor the legacy and tradition better than using obsolete low-quality Tamahagane AND electric power tools.

    Lucas found getting funding for Star Wars very tough, no one had any faith in the film (other than Alan Ladd jr etc)
    A chunk of the budget came from the U.K. private sector, but it still wasn’t enough for the original plan,
    Originally Lucas had planned to have each gun custom made (you can see the original designs of some of these in the 1st edition of the Star Wars rpg) but they ran out of money during the production so the prop guys raided the armour stores they had used in other productions and boom!, a lot of world war 2 (and 1, there’s a stormtrooper at the mos eisley space port using a Lewis gun, Han with the Mauser etc) even Obi wan’s lightsaber is made from a grenade,
    Considering I’ve seen what they had planned to build, what they got was a massive improvement,

    It's really cool that the Mandalorian (as well as Solo and Rogue One) kept with the tradition of using real life guns to turn into rugged sci fi blasters. I also spotted a Grease Gun blaster pistol in one of those Pirates' hands as well as what I thought was a spectre smg blaster pistol. Any excuse to get new classic guns turned into Star Wars designs is nice. I loved how rogue one used the Luger, M60 and mp40 to make new guns, and how Solo even used an AS VAL rifle to make a carbine for the character named Val lol

  • @spoons7483
    @spoons7483 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So just a few quick things on the grip and magazine changes, (I'm and 6 year viewer and a massive star wars fan so I'm fairly confident with my guesses about the design here) in star wars blaster require 2 things to fire, a power pack and Tabana gas cartidges (power pack acts like a primer and the gas as the propellent and bullet) the magazine will be holding the tabana gas cartridge and that decorative plate will probably slide down to reveal a filling port for the gas container, the changes to the grip would be to accommodate a standard heavy blaster pistol power pack that's inserted like an pistol magazine. Fun fact is that the DL-44, Han Solos blaster, actually had these components in the opposite places and used a short version of the power pack, reducing the power pack size to about 150 shots down from 300. (Feel free to ask me anything about star wars as im happy to give anyone an answer)

I think they were also trying to sorta hide the hammer a bit since it's a blaster and doesn't fire cartridges.
