I think Catra takes Adora leaving the horde very personally. Adora didn’t leave because of Catra, she left because she saw the horrible things the horde was doing, and didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. She even asked Catra to come with her. I think Catra taking it personally is very telling about her insecurities.
i think its more that Catra was abused for decades and Adora never thought the hoard was bad for doing so but the moment it happens to someone else she sees it. so i think its more like the fact that adora wasnt willing to leave for catra but was for some strangers she just met.
Noelle said in an interview the other day, that it wasn't Adora leaving that hurt Catra, it was "that their priorities weren't the same. For Catra her only priority was Adora." That's why it didn't matter how bad things were, in her eyes they had each others back, but Adora's priorities were more broad, and selfless and that's what hurt her.
It’s the difference in what they were willing to do. Adora was willing to die and sacrifice herself to save the world. Catra was willing to destroy the universe to have Adora
@@robyngiesbrecht5206 I don't understand why people overlook so easily the fact that Adora was abused too, it wasn't a stroll in the park for her either. She was literally kidnapped, she was lied to for her whole life, and the mother figure she had treated her like a mean to an end. Shadow weaver never loved her, she saw her as a weapon and groomed her into a soldier hoping sooner or later she would become She-Ra for the Horde. And she kept seeing Adora like that even after she (SW) joined the rebellion *[SPOILER]* and during Horde Prime invasion, she tried to convince her she shouldn't let Catra near her because otherwise she couldn't be what she wanted. And even her sacrifice wasn't out of love, her "you're welcome" speaks volumes, like they were supposed to thank her.

Catra isn't the only victim, let's not pretend that she is.
Furthermore, Adora was oblivious to the psychological abuse and the terrorism, the moment she realized it she left and at the first occasion asked Catra to join her. But Catra always knew, so why didn't she do something sooner? She could've left with Adora much sooner, but she didn't, and when Adora opened her eyes and did something about it Catra got mad. Why would Catra expect Adora to just be complacent and keep suffering when they could flee any time?
I don't think it's fair to say "Adora left for some strangers she just met". She didn't leave to be friend with Glimmer and Bow, but because she saw the truth about the horrors her family was perpetrating. It had nothing to do with Catra, Bow, or Glimmer. It had everything to do with morality, with what's right, and with self-respect.

ever since the season 5 trailer my default emotion has been "i want catra to be happy more than i've ever wanted anything in my entire life". this song has me losing my mind.
I still feel like Catra's redemption arc still needs to be more fleshed out.

The fact that this was actually how Catra thought before realising Adora actually cares and loves her... This hurts much more now, but in a good way since she could leave all of these thoughts behind and be happy with the woman she loves
The greatest cruelty in the entire show wasn't torture, kidnapping, enslavement, none of that.
It was that, in a universe fueled and supported by love, one women refused to feel it.
But feelings are tricky things. No matter how little you insist they affect you, you're lying to yourself. Because if you truly didn't feel, you wouldn't be alive, would you?
The greatest flaw of Catra was that she wasn't as loveless as she thought she was.
The greatest cruelty was that she denied herself love.

@@Derf360 I hope the show is over though. It was a very solid ending. I think the show concluded perfectly and doesn't have room for another season. Like I'm sure the writers could formulate another conflict, but I worry they'd go for a cheap one, such as putting a wedge between Catra and Adora and doing that whole trope. Point being, the series is concluded with a good ending. I couldn't ask more from a series honestly.

I literally feel Catra so hard. Like, I basically am Catra. I’ve been abused by my father since I was around 9, and he always made me believe that I wasn’t good enough and that my friends were better than me and I basically felt like nothing. I used to act out because of it, similar to Catra. I would get into trouble for attention since I never got it at home. Luckily I grew out of that, but now it’s something else. Now I have an internalized hatred for all the people who have hurt me and abandoned me, my mother, my father, my many ex-friends who have dumped me, and especially one specific friend who I actually had feelings for. She dumped me recently, and now I hate her and love her at the same time and it’s probably one of the most painful feelings ever

Edit: whoa I just found this comment again 9 months later and it really reminded me how much I’ve grown since then- I escaped from my dad, pushing past the resentment I held for my mom and listening to her side of the story, then moving in with her. I mean- I guess I get my redemption too 👁👁

Wow, this hits hard. Oh my gosh, I can't believe I partially relate to Catra here. One of my best friends is transferring to a different school because of bullying. I have a tendency to take things personally as if I'm the reason something happens. So needless to say, her leaving hurts me a lot though I know I'm not the reason. I've known her for 5-6 years and she feels like a sister to me. This song emphasizes the bond between Catra and Adora but I can't help but relate to it in my own way.

Although in one of the versions of the translation still decided to censor this topic. (1x9 - the phrase "This is not because I like you" turned into "This is not out of the goodness of my soul", and 1x11 - "I was help you not because we're friends"). But this is in only one in five cases.

You know what hurt more. Catra leave with adora not only she has been betrayed by adora but her pride. All these years, catra has been tortured by the thought adora better than her. And the promise, it means everything for catra. That they will never leave, that SHE and Adora will rule the world together. And when Adora gone, she was broken, angry and betrayed at first. “Why, why she cant left me for some nothing people??” And then, when adora beg her to stayed, she chose no. Why? Because that betrayed she feel, and her pride. After 4 ss, now she know she has gone to far to come back.

I normally hate hearing the same song back to back, but I just listened to this song four times in a row, on top of the two times I listened to it when I found it yesterday. You captured so many feelings into just three and a half minutes and you captured Catra's mind so freaking well. Your voice is AMAZING and portrays just as many feelings as your lyrics do. When Catra says "now that you're gone, I'm the best", she really never wanted to be the best, she just wanted to be with Adora. In the "perfect" world, she was not queen of Etheria, she was with Adora, being the captain of the force, that shows that Catra only wanted to be with Adora, and did everything she did to pretend that she didn't need her. When the Horde was winning, Catra did not feel well. She still needed and wanted Adora.
