Girl… I’m a cosmetologist too. Haven’t worked in a salon in years because ppl can be sooo irritating. Now I work on the dead and make them pretty instead lol. Best part is they don’t talk back!
I remember being so impressed that you discussed price beforehand. I thought that was a really great thing to do upfront (I mean, I was ready to spend whatever to have you bless my hair) but I really loved your transparency!
@@christinaruszkowski1319 “stop arguing just to argue” said by someone attempting to start an argument for no reason. only terrible hairstylists don’t discuss price first.
I’m getting frustrated with this client and I don’t even do hair lol There is a process lady 👏🏻👏🏻 she’s clearly the problem. Huge transformation btw! Looks great 😊
This is so relatable! I’ve had a few of those clients in my career. I don’t take it personally. If they’re that difficult with you, they’re that difficult with EVERYONE!
As a hairstylist of 12 years. EVERYTHING u said was exactly on point!!! I no longer do hair and totally changed professions (still do hair for friends and family but not public.) Some people no matter what you do you can not please them and I couldn’t tell u how many times I wanted to literally throw people out of my hair but as a professional I couldn’t. LOL
I know the feeling my dear. I went from electrical engineer to home reorganization to fast food to licensed cosmetologist (about 9 years full time 2 days off a month - I was always nicknamed the CASH COW) to now ready to work CVS retail associate jobs. Hairstylist has been the hardest draining job among all. And once the clients move on once you lose your salon or job they forget your entire existence and only contact you when they want you to take toxic hair salon jobs so you can get their hair done. Lol. I'll just keep my license renewed. I have done the corporate salon, the full service salon and also owned my own salon and done everything I love about hair and gotten it out of my system. Now I don't even want to look at people's hair except my house visit clients or if I get a stylist job for a company to do their workers hair or something but the public I AM ALL SET.
I laughed when you brought up the expensive car. I work in veterinary medicine and the owners complaining about cost with threatening language and declining recommended diagnostics and treatments are 9/10 owners that have purebred dogs, pull up in EXPENSIVE vehicles, and have designer items. It’s nice to know that these people act the same way wherever they go!
Don't let asshole clients get to you. Just remember you have control, boot that fucker out mid service or go to your manager. I worked with some dude who had a dickhead client. He gave him half a hair cut, then kicked out the salon
I don’t know how many times clients have made me cry!! Customer service is so demanding and draining. Theres always that 1 client that can ruin your whole week!
This video is so relatable! I've finally weeded out all the crazy clients but I've been doing hair for 11yrs. It really takes a toll on you at the beginning but eventually you don't let it bother you anymore! This industry can be really hard until you set strict boundaries upfront. People who respect you will keep coming and it helps get rid of the psychos lol
so happy I saw this , I've been doing hair now for 3 years and never had a bad experience with a client till yesterday, but I kept my cool for the whole time I was doing her hair and right when I checked her out I went to the back and had a solo crying session, but im just tilling my self that one person can't take my good energy cause I have too many of my client that bless me everyday , thanks sam I love your videos
Yes. For me it only took me 2 years and this was back 14 years ago when I quit. I made more money bartending and I went back to school. I felt like I was hustling more, and was so much more tired.
I've been doing hair for 25 years and I refuse to take on clients that I know will be a problem. After awhile you can read people easily. Ugh, this person made me cringe. We've all had them. You are doing great! And to top it off, you keep your cool. What an amazing girl you are.
The end results were freakin’ fabulous! I can’t believe anyone would complain about that and be so difficult throughout the entire process. It’s so frustrating that you’re so kind, thorough, thoughtful, and talented, yet you have to deal with the most ungrateful and argumentative clients sometimes.
Weird that I came across this video.. I’m a hairdresser considering stepping away from the industry… it’s a tough job bc there is a human attached the the hair lol. It would be so different if they dropped off their hair and picked it up later. It’s emotionally, physically & mentally draining.
@@callitron you can still work doing hair, consider working in film and television for hair styling. Join a union especially if you’re in a big city like LA or NYC💕
I don't blame you my dear. Once I closed my salon of 5 years I was just over it. I am just doing my 3 - 5 clients at their homes and gave the rest to another salon stylist neighbor of mine. I'm an introvert and after almost 10 years full time I'm drained out of all the energy. I am actually going for a job interview for a retail associate job at CVS tomorrow and then I will get a second job at starbucks or dunkin or something. I'm a people pleaser and most of my hair guests really took advantage and I ended up leaving broke and bankrupt. Inflation and Covid didn't even help.
I am a 3rd generation hairstylist in my family, the best piece of advice I have ever gotten was from my Nan. She told me the way you present your confidence is everything. Doesn’t matter if you’re not confident on the inside.. yes in your words but it even comes down to using your hands. A firm touch tells the client you know what you’re doing. A wimpy shampoo when you’re not using good pressure with your palms and finger tips tells the client you don’t know what you’re doing. It is this advice that has helped me to tame even the worst of clients.
I am a client 👀 and this is just making me realize what my stylist goes through. I’ve gone to her for many years, and I’m not what I’d call a nightmare client, but I am one of those picky, worried people. I remember when I went blonde I was horrified by the orange stage, but just sat silently praying my stylist would come through. Ofc she did. But then I missed my dark hair a couple years later. And then I missed blonde a year after that 😭 and I’ve been bright orange-red, brown, all shades in between, and I feel bad for my stylist having to keep changing my hair. She is so talented that I really should trust her more, but for some reason I’m always underwhelmed when I first see the final product. It’s not until I go home, wash it and style it myself that I realize what a great job she did. After all this time, I just tell her I love it knowing I eventually will. In fact she just did my hair a perfect brown and it’s literally my favorite but I’m dying to style it myself 💀 what’s wrong with me lol it’s not like I’m better at curling my hair than she is, she’s a professional and my iron barely works
I am so like that as well! I usually love the color result.... but for some reason I have to style my own hair. They do the best blowouts, etc.... but idk.... I don't know what it is, I HAVE to be the one to style it- or it doesn't look right to me. I think maybe it's because I have shorter hair, and I have a very specific way I like my ends to be straight, etc... even when I have waves, or loose curls... I've never been able to put my finger on it- but it has to be styled by me, then I love it! :)
I’m a picky blonde client too! I’m actually a very laid back, easy to please person usually, but over the years, I’ve had a handful of stylists (mostly in cheaper salons) than didn’t know the first thing about blonde hair. Several stylists nearly ruined my hair (fried to a crisp, burned my scalp with bleach, turned my hair bright orange when I asked for ashy blonde, etc)… so now I have a complex about stylists touching my blonde hair! We’re a military family, so we move around every 3 years & I have to find a new stylist. Lol but my bad experiences have made me “jumpy” and on edge when a new stylist does my hair 😂
I personally hate when they style my hair after a color.. I feel like it always looks weird or the part doesn’t fall how I’m used to 😂 so I end up going home and redoing the style too!
You’re probably one of the most honest, professional, and thorough stylists I’ve seen from this video, I feel bad that you had to deal with that! :( It honestly turned out amazing though! :)
I was drunk when watching this last night and I was like “I KNOW this voice from somewhere.”…. I’ve seen a lot of your older hair story videos 😂 I’m so glad to see another video!
Girl I wish you were my stylist. The way you tell this story has me fricking rolling over here. I can feeeeel your frustration with this chick and I don’t even do hair. (My husband does. He’s done hair for 18 years and hung it up to be a pro skydiver. Lol my life is weird.) but I love your stories and your channel in general because I get to hear that pov. ❤️🥰
I just came from an amazing appointment. I've been working with my stylist for almost a year and she just keeps getting better with my hair. And I do change up the color a lot, so it is much appreciated. She takes time to explain too and I appreciate it a lot.
Girl you slayed her hair. Color is very difficult and your expertise should be valued and appreciated. I am not a cosmetologist but have been getting my hair colored for 25+ years and IMO its OK for a client to ask questions, clarify a misunderstanding or even ask you to change something but you have to be reasonable in expectations and polite!!! Some of these girls need a fairy godmother and a magic wand i think!! 😂
I can't imagine not working in this industry. I'm definitely trying to move away from doing color because I hate it tbh, but I love the craft of haircutting. I don't do perms, I don't advertise for vivids and unless it's something I'm super confident I can do I will refer them to someone else, I will refer most corrective color situations to someone else, if someone describes what they want and the vibes are off for me I refer them to someone else. It took me 10 years to get to this point but it's sooo much better. I still have disaster days once in a while but overall I think of this as the best job in the world.
You are extremely talented and it’s very evident that she is just miserable. The fact that she really believed that all the other hair stylists were the problem shows her complete lack of self awareness. In reality she was likely someone who was impossible to please due to her own insecurities, and/or unrealistic expectations. She obviously viewed herself as being superior to everyone else which is why she was questioning every damn thing you did. There is absolutely no doubt that her hair came out really beautiful thanks to your amazing skills. Hopefully she will learn how to be respectful & act appropriately! 💗💞
Thank your for sharing this . Im on my fist year doing hair it is very hard .mentally and physically exhausting. People expect to pay minimum for an 6 + hour service. I’m learning to keep salon issues at the salon and knowing my worth as a luxury service provider
Yeap and then they tell you all their horror stories and how they have no more money. I have a job interview tomorrow and I had to cancel cuz I don't think I can go back to that insanity. 8+ years later full time and the mental and physical exhausted has kicked me out for good and I have nothing to show for it. I am all set doing the 8 - 12 hours of color corrections as a specialist. Now even a men's haircut I don't even want to consider it except for 5 house guests I have which is 2 days a month.
I’ve been a hairdresser for 8 solid years, and I’ve had this happen a couple times so I can relate. I always remind myself “more thorough consultation” now. Thank you for the story please share more 👌🏻❤️
New sub here, I really like how you broke down the story and had pictures so we could get a clear image in our heads of what she wanted. I also really like that you breakdown everything from price, to steps that are taken and why. I love when things are transparent from the beginning. Then there won't be any confusion at the end.
I’ve been doing hair for 14 years and I can totally relate to this. Sometimes the client doesn’t realize how we put our heart and soul into things and the expectations are way too high! Thanks for letting us all know that we’re not alone.
Yes yes YESS! Thank you! I’ve divorced these clients. Been doing hair long enough (26y) that if 3 visits and they are never happy, it’s time for the “I think it’s time for you to try a new stylist that may be able to do what you are saying”. Tip I’ve been using last few years, on top of pics you like. I want a pic of what they do not like.
I think it's funny how people are so obsessed with watching the whole thing, and I understand wanting to keep an eye on things. My eyesight is terrible so once my glasses are off, it's a mystery until we're done. 😂
I don't often get my hair done (twice a year or less) but when I do, I take my glasses off and just wait til it's all done. If I don't like it at the end, well, it'll grow out again. No big deal.
Thank you for sharing this! 💕 I felt like I was the only one who felt like this after doing hair for 6 years and leaving the industry. Thankfully I went back to school and am in a field that is much better for my mental health. You definitely do feel burnt out quite often in the hair industry.
As a lawyer, I can relate to your client story so much. So many similarities!!!!! There are just some clients that are never happy, and always something they complain about (fees, questioning the process, wanting you to adhere to their ideas when you can't, etc.).
I dispatch truck drivers. Can confirm that some people are just literally impossible to please. I could get them their dream load and they'd complain bc that had to pick it up. I swear, its ridiculous sometimes. But then I have drivers that quite literally just take whatever load we've got and leave with a smile. Those drivers may or may not be my favorites lmao
Ive been doing hair for 10 years and a much as i love it im ready to find a new career. I dont think people understand how emotionally & mentally draining it can be :( I blame Pinterest and filters for all the unrealistic expectations!
Just come across your channel, love your transparency. I can relate. I paused on doing color (tones etc.) because it is expensive and takes time, and the products are expensive. You give a free consultation, and then there is that one 🥶 I love and enjoy doing hair. I am doing braids now, and oh Lord, I won't even go there😅😂😂 they pay much more for the hair than they want for the service. Keep doing hair mama. Bless up from 🇯🇲
Her hair looked FANTASTIC! I suspect her previous experiences made her quite jaded and her behavior as a result. I get it. You handled her beautifully, Sam!
I love your energy, throughout this whole situation you were able to keep your cool, which is something I would've definitely struggled to do! Also sidenote you are SO gorgeous!! ❤ love your content
I don't know the first thing about hair styling, but I do know about customer service and I can relate on so many other levels, lol. You're a good business person. Not sure that I would've been that nice! Keep up the good work!
I did hair for 6 years and specialized in blonding/color corrections and Vivid color… and lemme tell you.. your video gave me such PTSD lmaooo this is exactly why I quit the hair world too. Literally. Too many of these people exist and it’s disgusting. I used to cry over toner and not be able to eat because I’d be doing 8-10 hour sessions and literally would be so drained and depressed from trying to make others happy. I have very few and far between clients that treated me well and to this day I thank them for being such angels in comparison to the vast majority of the heads I’ve worked on… a lot of people just want good work with a discounted price or for free by claiming they don’t like it or it’s not like the photo etc.. just like u I educated at clients and I loved it but I also dealt with clients that never wanted to buy home haircair or would get upset when I would let them know that my services do require high maintenance and I will need to see them at least once a month to keep up and avoid a lot of new growth and banding and they always never wanna come in that often or pay the price tag… my favorite thing to tell them was “when you get your nails done, you don’t go in and get a full set and never come back to get them filled right? It’s the same thing your toner will fade and you will need to see me for your roots and toner every 3-4 weeks” they always made a funky face because they literally assume it’s a one and done process which very rarely is that ever the case.
I worked in a hair salon for a bit as a receptionist and the way people get nasty and complain is insane. Especially when the hairstylist did a great job. Your work looks great to me. 💙🌷 also I’ve noticed that people driving luxury cars and wearing expensive hand bags are a little out of touch with reality. Sadly the people who tip well and appreciate good work and don’t haggle the price are regular people working 9-5’s or struggling. It’s really wild but I think we appreciate and understand the value of someone work more than someone who is wealthy.
I’ve been a hairdresser for 22 years and omg I can soooo relate!! I have many stories.. kinda want to make it into a book lol Anyways, love your channel… I just discovered it today after a frustrating day with a client. Cheers 🍻
You are obviously very knowledgeable and talented! New to your channel and I appreciate your approach. Your clients are very lucky to have someone who leads with honesty and professionalism. Sorry you have to deal with difficult clients. ❤️ Sending love and positivity ✨️
I worked in dental for 15 years.... people hate the dentist it was always a negative patient vibe and then I ran a daycare for 2 years.... daycare is the worst job ever!!! They tear up your home, parents are late on payments, take advantage of your time, always late. Expect you to feed them on your own budget when they overeat their own snacks or daycare provided snacks/food. Its truly awful and I love children.
You really think working with parents is easier? I’ve been teaching in an elementary school for 12 years, parents are one of the worst parts of this job.
Hairstylists love me because I can’t see anything until they’re done 😂 Also I rarely ever complain. “Have fun with it” and “whatever you think looks best” are common phrases from me.
You are very good about giving people the benefit of the doubt. So many people complain throughout the process of every interaction that involves money from the start because the next step is to refuse to pay full price or at all, you know, because things were clearly going wrong from the beginning.
This is pretty much the reason I decided not to go to cosmetology school. My husband reminded me and was like, “you know there will be people who you will never be able to make happy and are impossibly difficult to work with…” I wouldn’t have lasted long as a stylist at all.
While I don't do hairstyling (I do art and animation but getting into coding on the side), when you mentioned the client has an expensive car and she's picky with the price I think "Why is it always the rich people that are super picky with prices and rude with people/workers?" Like, they're rich so they can easily pay and tip but instead are just very stingy. I'm sorry you had to go through that. The way you style hair looks amazing. Great video!
Whatever lipstick shade you have on is really your shade! Love the whole minimal look with the blush and lip combo! If you have tips on how to find a good lip shade for a person, please point me to that video! From this story, it honestly sounded like she was attempting to have a heavily discounted or free service.
Omg I was not expecting that final result pic- that girls hair looks SO different from her before photo!! Like are you kidding me?! It’s so silvery! Lol I think you did an awesome job.
New sub! I LOVE your videos. The aesthetics, your love for beauty, your realness. *chef’s kiss* also is this weird? I LOVE that you just turned 30. I turn 30 in September and it’s so hard (it feels like) to find TH-camrs who aren’t like 21-25 or like 35+ anywho so happy I found this channel ✨💕
I completely agree! I feel the same way. It seems like everyone I come across is a lot younger, so it's refreshing to find someone your same age (that also isn't married with a bunch of kids running around) lol! Thank you :) Glad to have you here!!
Lmaoooo how is there always that one “You’re the 10th a stylist I’ve been to in the area, because no one can ever get my color right” EVERYWHERE 😂 My old coworker had one of them once, she came to me once a few months later and during the consultation I sat her down and told her *politely* and *respectfully* that I don’t think I’m gonna be able to give her the color she wants, and sent her on her way. ✌🏽
It sounds like the client has very bad anxiety and you are correct, it’s a reflection on them. I commend you for being patient and willing to explain the process.
YOU MADE MY DAY!! Loved this video. I actually just do hair on the side now..Its just way ridiculous nowadays and yes People really suck and yes its always someone driving a bentley or maserati in my area..I’m much happier since I went back to working my Nights at the Hospital.
Oh my gosh!!!! Her hair was gorgeous!!! Hon-nayyyyyy…..what you did was 😍 SOO gorgeous! I’m so sorry you had to deal with this after such a beautiful job. 🤦🏼♀️
I can relate to this so much! I was a cosmetologist ( was mostly doing eyelash extensions ) for 4 years and I actually got fired in 2020 when because of the corona. I am so happy that I did because I changed my profession and I am so much happier and my mental health is so much better. I struggled with anxiety and It got so much worse because of clients like this. Just like you I take pride in my work. I always explained everything and I am a perfectionist but where I live there are a lot of people that will go from salon to salon and no matter how good of a job you do they will demand a refund so that they can get it for free. Unfortunately, the owners didn't know a thing about cosmetology and would always protect the clients and would criticise us even If we tried to explain. Even worse cosmetologists in my country are so underpaid that a lot of them leave the country.
thank you for sharing i always love your stories❤️ i started at a new salon in feb at a more busy area than i’m used to from my past salon and girl i get so many nasty people who are like this 😅 it’s so draining. i’ve honestly wondered so many times if this is just not the right career for me but seeing other stylist share stories like this makes me feel so much better 😭 also loving your septum piercing!!❤️
This is one of the many reasons I quit beauty school. I got a whiff of this once and I couldn’t. There were a lot of other reasons. But DAMN. I have so much respect for what y’all do.
I worked in retail/customer service for 8 years or so and I have never been happier since I left. I only talk to other people now who are basically in the same position as I am, and everyone is neutral and professional. It’s been such a long time since I’ve been called names or harassed by a stranger 😅
Fellow hair stylist here! 🙋♀️👋👋 Can I just say, u LITERALLYYYYY nailed EVERYTHING on the head!!! So frustrating!!! But omg her final result was STUNNING!!! Especially after only ONE process! 🤯🤯 But yeah the red flags r spot on 🥴😂 loved the video love!
People who know nothing about hair think it's so easy. They put grocery store hair color In their hair and then want to go blonde while paying $20 lol I'm glad I don't work in a salon anymore because some people are crazy 😅
Your advice and tips are a wonderfully welcomed gift usually the hairdresser keeps everything a secret so you keep coming back. Then they leave and your like darn I wished I would have asked her…..so this is really nice of you.
I feel!!! Just had a crazy client last week kinda like your story. I have only been doing hair for 2 years and have already had to fire 3 people and that's not counting just the plain rude and disrespectful people who have no care but for themselves. And trust me we get quite a few in our salon. Us hairstyles take so much emotional abuse. It's so sad that people don't treat others with respect.
Sam… You are the Expert and an Artist. Your Clients don’t choose You… You should Choose your Clients. How dare someone Question you. Seriously, You need to Choose your Clients sweetheart. They are Lucky to have You… 🙏👍❤️ Oh and your Skin looks freaking Amazing! ⭐️👑 40 years experience here in Cosmetology. 💋👍
I've only had like 2 horrible clients, but this clients would've made me so anxious and upset! I would've blocked them from booking again! Did she ever come back? The transformation was beautiful btw!❤
I love how I’m nodding while you’re talking lol I can relate to every detail of your story, I’m from a small town and I am known for my bright blondes and attention to detail so I get a lot of referrals which I am so grateful for but soo many people come in for consults and don’t understand when they are showing a picture of someone with hair that is a totally different length, texture and natural color, all while they’ve got 10+ layers of color build up, hair dark AF, fried from hot tools AND they want full platinum foil no cut and thinks it’s cRazY that it would take 4+ hours and $X amount and confused as to why you can’t make it those colors…well you’re paying for a luxury service coming in as color correction so there’s that, it’s going to take so much product and meticulous application.. if only they knew how much $ it was costing us to do their thick long coarse hair in one appt, while having enough set aside to pay yourself, product usage, time, chair rent, mortgage, insurance, continuing education, taxes, retirement, medical etc, most people think we are rollin in the dough. I hope she paid and left gracefully and hopefully she has since told you what an incredible transformation you did on her hair because damn that was a BIG change for one appt and you absolutely crushed it!!!! So happy I came across your channel tonight 💗
Hi Sam☺️ Thank you, Thank you for sharing. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a video of yours that I didn’t enjoy- so I hit that “Like” button as soon as you start. I’m so sorry that someone with your talent and experience still has to experience clients like that. I graduated May 18- Cosmo/Barbering. 2nd career after my 17 year job loss after Covid. I didn’t have that great of an experience in school- sux. But I finished. It’s crazy that I don’t even know if I want to do hair ugh. A lot of it is the “people.” I’m so glad you shared your story. It truly meant a lot to me. I really enjoy you and your channel. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, You are a natural at this “TH-cam thing.” 💜✌️😉
Yes major red flag when they pull the phone out and in the sink brings back flashbacks 😓 just subscribed loving these videos please keep them coming!!❤
Omg I felt your frustration through every minute of this video I know EXACTLY how that is. And you handled it so well. I don’t have patience for that shit. You nailed that hair. She would have not found anyone else to do that in one session ugh I hate people. You are awesome!
You have the patience of Jobe. I am a medical aesthetician sometimes my clients have unrealistic expectations like sundamage or wrinkles. You r so professional this women was lucky u did her hair. You did am amazing job. Clients sometimes don't realize how your expertise is what's best for them. I have dismissed clients who rattle my phykee. Too draining.
You did A BEAUTIFUL JOB on her hair😍 She clearly wanted to get it for free. Like you said, she was complaining about multiple things before you were even done! I'm so sorry people do this.. Makes the rest of us suffer because we lose amazing artists like yourself😔
Hi, I just found your stories and omg!! I'm a stylist as well I'm not even done with the video I'm at 11 minutes in and I have had clients like this, the fact they can't be pleased and the red flags in the beginning omg I love how you handled everything and how you explain everything.
I sooo relate to everything you talked about, I did hair for 15yr ish and had so many amazing clients who often said they appreciated the time I took to discuss all the things you did - and that in the case of something not being quite right I always tried to be approachable and honest with going about TRYING to make it right whether it was product failure, my fault or the client ... in my opinion, you did an AMAZING job with everything in this case, hair looks gorgeous and healthy xxx I now do private house cleaning jobs and I love it , really enjoy doing a few friends and long time clients hair at home still haha! Bigh ugs To you from New Zealand 🥰
I don't blame you my dear. Once I closed my salon I was just over it. I am just doing my 3 - 5 clients at their homes and gave the rest to another salon stylist neighbor of mine. I'm an introvert and after almost 10 years full time I'm drained out of all the energy.
YES they do that. You just never know what kind of person is going to sit in your chair. You may get a sweet person you may get someone you can’t please no matter what you do. They come in expecting to make you a villain in their narrative and they stick to it no matter how hard you try. 💯 relate with this video!
Phew girl I felt alll the emotions you must have felt that day. I did hair did 15 yrs. Like you said most clients are amazing but there’s always those random crazy ones that hate their hair even if it’s perfect. I miss this salon vibes but but not these headaches lll
This came out sooooo pretty!!! I love itttt !! Sorry you had to go thru that, supppper annoying but omg it came out so pretty. I like it more than the original picture she wanted even though the other one was gorgeous too!
I’ve bleached my hair several times, going from dark to white blonde and then back to dark and back to white blonde. I’ve always trusted the people who did my hair. However, there was one time (my first time going to white blonde) when the masters at the salon were clearly lying to me. From the very beginning I’ve told the girl that I wanted very bright blonde hair and taking in consideration the fact that my natural hair colour was strawberry blonde I knew that the colour that I wanted could of been reached in 2 or maximum of 3 sessions. However, instead of bleaching all of my hair the master kept doing highlights for me so in order for me to reach the colour that I wanted I had to attend at least 10 appointments. Obviously, I realised that something was not right after the 4th appointment and went to another salon, where I got a perfect result in one session. I’m really not a picky client, but in my opinion what the first master did wasn’t right as she just wanted to get as much money from me as possible. After that I never had any issues with colouring my hair at a salon. The main thing is to be able to communicate and trust the process . However,as long as there are masters such as the first one that I got , there will be clients with trust issues
holy crap yeah they definitely ripped you off!! if you're saying you had virgin strawberry blonde hair that could have easily been achieved in one session!!!
This is why I refuse to do color at my salon. They hate me for it but unless it’s the most simplest all over application then I will not do it. Color never made sense to me in school and so I just stay away from it. Give me all the cuts and perms but color is one thing I won’t do. Stylists who do color are a god send
Yesssss, more stylists need to be comfortable picking a specialty!! I'm the complete opposite as you lol! I'll do color all day, but keep the perms far away from me!!
I love your hair color. I haven't watched the rest of your video yet. Your video explaining perm/demi/semi dyes, developer, & bleach brought me to your channel. I love your hair color in that video too. Can you do a video on what color/colors you used? The color looks beautiful on you.
Girl…
I’m a cosmetologist too. Haven’t worked in a salon in years because ppl can be sooo irritating. Now I work on the dead and make them pretty instead lol. Best part is they don’t talk back!
How did you get into that? If you don't mind me asking? I think I would love that
Wait till one wake up 😂😂😂
Practicing cosmo here... I've considered switching to post-mort work for this exact reason. I still think about switching fields.
@@TashaRansomArtlol hairdresser of 5 years here, thinking the same😂
I remember being so impressed that you discussed price beforehand. I thought that was a really great thing to do upfront (I mean, I was ready to spend whatever to have you bless my hair) but I really loved your transparency!
Thank you!! I think it's so important.
I was taught in hair school that discussing the cost of the service and the cost of maintenance should always be included in consultation

@@christinaruszkowski1319 “stop arguing just to argue” said by someone attempting to start an argument for no reason. only terrible hairstylists don’t discuss price first.
Most salons do NOT do this. Then you’re in absolute SHOCK at checkout!
I’m getting frustrated with this client and I don’t even do hair lol
There is a process lady 👏🏻👏🏻 she’s clearly the problem.
Huge transformation btw! Looks great 😊

This is so relatable! I’ve had a few of those clients in my career. I don’t take it personally. If they’re that difficult with you, they’re that difficult with EVERYONE!
Exactly!!!

Also in the veterinary field and had the same exact thought.

Hey vet tech here this is exactly what happens
I’m in vetmed too and can confirm.
Lol yeah, it's a bit sad
Absolutely needed this today. Had a huge crying session today after some clients. Thank you Sam❤️
I remember those days. Hugs. It'll be okay. It's a hard, draining job. Just know that you're appreciated 🦋❤️
Oh no :( We've all been there. I hope the rest of your week is better!! Sending lots of love!
Please don't let it upset you sending hug

Yes good idea to go by . I'm hairdresser 30 years
so happy I saw this , I've been doing hair now for 3 years and never had a bad experience with a client till yesterday, but I kept my cool for the whole time I was doing her hair and right when I checked her out I went to the back and had a solo crying session, but im just tilling my self that one person can't take my good energy cause I have too many of my client that bless me everyday , thanks sam I love your videos
I’ve been doing hair for 10 years now and I’m definitely looking another path. You got me fired up just listening to the story 😭

Im in the exact same boat with you girl.. The thing is what the hell do we do now😭

LITERALLY!!!!
In fact she just did my hair a perfect brown and it’s literally my favorite but I’m dying to style it myself 💀 what’s wrong with me lol it’s not like I’m better at curling my hair than she is, she’s a professional and my iron barely works
th-cam.com/video/uh6oKqjT8go/w-d-xo.html storytime !!
Plus it’s just so much fun to play with your hair after getting it freshly done!

I think it’s so cool you like to educate people,
I never have hairstylists do that.
It's tough sometimes, but focus on the good clients and the reason you got into this industry in the first place!
I’m having a hard time myself my first year too. I’m exhausted. Not alone
Girl! I feel this on so many levels. The hairdresser burnout is so real. It takes a lot out of you.
It sure does
I’ve been a hairdresser for 8 solid years, and I’ve had this happen a couple times so I can relate.
Same. Only if I wear contacts. Definitely have to trust the hairstylist
Thank you for sharing this! 💕
I felt like I was the only one who felt like this after doing hair for 6 years and leaving the industry.
I did hair for two years before having my son, and I can relate so much. I was literally finishing your sentences 😂 love these videos, Sam!
Ive been doing hair for 10 years and a much as i love it im ready to find a new career. I dont think people understand how emotionally & mentally draining it can be :(
I blame Pinterest and filters for all the unrealistic expectations!
You did an amazing job for one session ppl literally think that stylists are magicians they don’t know the hard work it takes to do all of that
I don't know the first thing about hair styling, but I do know about customer service and I can relate on so many other levels, lol.
I have many stories.. kinda want to make it into a book lol
Anyways, love your channel… I just discovered it today after a frustrating day with a client.
Cheers 🍻
Do it!!! Make it into a book!!!
You are obviously very knowledgeable and talented! New to your channel and I appreciate your approach. Your clients are very lucky to have someone who leads with honesty and professionalism. Sorry you have to deal with difficult clients. ❤️ Sending love and positivity ✨️
When she said it would probably be lighter without foils… omg I DIED. Bless this client’s heart.
I’ve been doing hair for 9 years and I’m definitely starting to want to look into starting a home daycare instead. 🙃
I feel that lol! I love this industry so much, but it's really easy to get burnt out, unfortunately :/
Noooo daycare is horrible
Oh you want Karen parents ? Worse than hair😆
Hairstylists love me because I can’t see anything until they’re done 😂
Also I rarely ever complain.
Yes! Please share what you’re wearing on your lips and cheeks

Lmaoooo how is there always that one “You’re the 10th a stylist I’ve been to in the area, because no one can ever get my color right” EVERYWHERE 😂
My old coworker had one of them once, she came to me once a few months later and during the consultation I sat her down and told her *politely* and *respectfully* that I don’t think I’m gonna be able to give her the color she wants, and sent her on her way. ✌🏽
Good for you!!!!! I always have a hard time turning someone away, but sometimes it's the best thing!
@@styledbysamvay thanks! I completely agree, it can be the best thing for your own mental health, and for the client as well 🙌🏽

I don’t do hair anymore but I remember clients that were like this. So frustrating and emotionally draining.
Even worse cosmetologists in my country are so underpaid that a lot of them leave the country.
thank you for sharing i always love your stories❤️ i started at a new salon in feb at a more busy area than i’m used to from my past salon and girl i get so many nasty people who are like this 😅 it’s so draining.
i’ve honestly wondered so many times if this is just not the right career for me but seeing other stylist share stories like this makes me feel so much better 😭

Your advice and tips are a wonderfully welcomed gift usually the hairdresser keeps everything a secret so you keep coming back. Then they leave and your like darn I wished I would have asked her…..so this is really nice of you.
Not me zooming into the mirror to see if the client looked as difficult as she was 😂😂
Dead!!!!!!! Hahahaahha

Yay! I've missed your storytime videos! How frustrating. Your hair looks so good in this video btw!
I’m a PT cosmetologist and color is also my fave….. YOUR WORK IS AMAZING and so thorough
Ooo that color is really pretty 😍 I would have expected that to cost $150 to $180 where I live.
Yes please more videos like this!! 😍 I love the vibe it’s like I’m watching the ‘Sam Vay Show’ or ‘GWGI happy hour Show’ lol or something like that 😄
Thank you for this because I had a bad day Monday and was doubting my self . … I’m glad I’m not just in my head . Thank you
Hi, I just found your stories and omg!! I'm a stylist as well I'm not even done with the video I'm at 11 minutes in and I have had clients like this, the fact they can't be pleased and the red flags in the beginning omg I love how you handled everything and how you explain everything.
I sooo relate to everything you talked about, I did hair for 15yr ish and had so many amazing clients who often said they appreciated the time I took to discuss all the things you did - and that in the case of something not being quite right I always tried to be approachable and honest with going about TRYING to make it right whether it was product failure, my fault or the client ... in my opinion, you did an AMAZING job with everything in this case, hair looks gorgeous and healthy xxx
I now do private house cleaning jobs and I love it , really enjoy doing a few friends and long time clients hair at home still haha! Bigh ugs To you from New Zealand 🥰
I haven’t seen your videos in forever loved all of your old vids
I don’t do hair but I can relate to dealing with this type of person! So infuriating
The flags were a wavingggg!! Lol I use to be a hairstylist for 13 years and exactly what you were saying was spot on.
That septum piercing is everything on you!!!!! Love your storyline and videos
Yay I am loving that you are tying in some hair videos again! Missed this.
People with the designer duds and expensive cars are the ones that are usually broke
For some reason I haven’t been getting your notifications and now I’m like weeks behind. 😩 a good note is that I can binge these now lol 😂
Hey, stylists willing to do perms are a godsend these days. I don’t know anyone willing to take perm clients without some real persuasion
I love your hair color. I haven't watched the rest of your video yet. Your video explaining perm/demi/semi dyes, developer, & bleach brought me to your channel. I love your hair color in that video too. Can you do a video on what color/colors you used? The color looks beautiful on you.
