I am so sorry that you went through this. I would never do this unless the client offers. And usually it’s just coffee but mostly when I order food I would ask my client if they want something and of course we must order drinkies soooo it’s really girl time all the time at the salon. Seems like nowadays beauty appointments have been quite stressful before, during, and after services. I’m grieving.

Props to you girl ! That shit is literally insane . I have had a hairdresser who asked me to pay for her Uber before. Like today’s stylists are so f**king unprofessional and over priced . This is why I am trying to learn to do my own hair .

When she told her butt length, my first thought was that butt length is going to be different based on height. It makes sense to charge more because she’s using more hair and it will take her more time to braid. I’m 5’0 and that’s short for a woman, but 5’7 is actually taller than your average woman 🤷🏽♀️. That being said ole girl shouldn’t have charged her extra because she pushed back her appointment time three times and she basically used her as Uber Eats and her personal banker 😒

This is crazy unprofessional and scammy. The first red flag was when she asked for you to bring Chipotle. These kinds of people are the people you have to have strict boundaries with or not utilize their services at all because if you give them an inch they’ll take a mile & that’s what she did.
And I understand how you feel about trying to support people who are young and/or up and coming. It’s unfortunate that some people take people for granted like this when they’re being given a chance. You were gracious for that and for not exposing her information.

I've been seeing the same stylist for nearly 15 years. She would nevvvvverrrrr ask me to bring her anything. She sends reminder/confirmation texts the day before an appointment...and honestly, I don’t think she has ever been late. She isn't doing braids and such, but she certainly does a lot of complicated colour treatments and cuts. When one person is processing, she's washing the next client, etc. Hair is a customer service industry. You're not just doing someone's hair.
I know that these styles are much more complicated than my own hair, but I don’t think you should have to spend the whole day in someone's chair either.
Edit to add: I think building a proper profit margin into the hair would mean that you shouldn't have to charge an extra thirrrrrty dollars.
I feel like whether or not the style is complicated shouldn’t matter. As you said, it’s a customer service industry and people should just have decorum lol

Girl I lived in Long Beach, paid stylist 20 for deposit, messaged her the night before for the address no text back.
I was texted her that morning 4 hours before my appointment and asked for the address. She texted me 15 mins before saying that she was ready to send the address… and said I was weird for trying ask for her address early (la traffic is terrible) and she lived 55 mins away smh .
These unprofessional hairstylists are the reason I do my own hair!!! 🤦🏽♀️

Your first mistake was stopping to get her Chipotle. She set the tone for unprofessionalism and you allowed it unfortunately. Also whatever the original price is she asking for is what you should have sent nothing more. The only thing she can do is refuse service. If it's oay after service is done situation well then oh well, chances are nobody's going to go through the lenghts of trying to sue so you could send the $130 and go about your day lol. Also I guess she forgot that you know where she lives. I definitely would have popped right back at her house for that money lol

But at some point, professionalism and morals and values have to cross. Asking someone that’s a first time client of yours to bring you food is so far off the professionalism scale it isn’t even funny. And then her and these specials and prices that she tries to run is going to end up ruining her if she can’t get specific on what she’s offering. If you say ALL BRAID STYLES are $100 baby, that’s all sizes and all lengths to me!! If it’s not, then it needs to be specified on what’s NOT included. And then to not give you your deposit back 🤦🏾♀️Smh she gotta tighten up.

That's exactly why I don't like hearing these kind of stories. Someone comes online to complain and "expose" bad business practices, yet refuses to name the business, so that business can just continue on scamming people. So in reality, they aren't helping anybody by complaining. They should do better to ACTUALLY expose bad business practices and help people
I think It’s so they cant be held liable legal y for something like example defamation. Not saying the plaintiff would win in that case but dragging out legal battles can be a form of ‘punishment’ due to how expensive it is

It’s because hair comes pre stretched nowadays. So for example Waist-Length Braids: 24” pre stretched hair could fall at the top of a shorter clients butt (depending on there waist proportion) and on a taller client the hair could fall at her actual waist. And then also the braids at the top of your head will automatically fall even shorter than the ones in the back unless longer hair is used on the top. So a stylist might have to add more hair or buy a longer hair length and braid more to accommodate.
I let me clients know that where the braids will fall will vary
Ex: Waist-Length braids will fall between the waist line and top of butt; Butt-Length will fall between the top of the butt and bottom of the butt. So they can be aware and maybe add extra length if they may have a longer torso and think they’re hair will fall on the shorter end.

I used to get my old nail tech and hairstylist food all the time, but I was LOYAL and pre-booking 3 to 4 months out for multiple appointments. But I would NEVER do these things for someone I didn't know

A lot of hairstylists in NY charge $300+ for them but the African braiding shops usually charge around $200 any style any length. But you can deff find people who charge cheaper lol
braider here!! i mean i don’t charge extra for tall girls but i would say it MIGHT make sense depending how tall cus it can be a difference of multiple inches which can add up time wise and take 1-2 more hours. same reason we would charge more for butt length vs mid back length.

Since you said that the hair was provided with the service if she ended up using more hair than she initially bought for the length that you wanted, the fee is fair but if she doesn’t, she should not charged you
For me it is funny that service providers tell stories of how entitled and respect less costumers and costumers tell horror stories with service providers.
Height does matter with braids. Braiders should go by actual inches instead of saying butt length or thigh length people are different heights.

I don't fully get charging for more height because I'm 5'2 and had a 6'2 friend and when we sat down I was actually taller than her. I have very short legs she had very tall legs. I have a normal size torso she had a short torso. Meaning her waist would actually be closer to her head than mine.

Braids that long?......are usually very costly......back just about 6 or 8 yrs ago, small/med braids to the rear cost about $600-$800..... and all styles $100? ....now that sounds a little too good to be true....that is alot of labor & time for $100.....how would they make any money??.....I don't go to anyone house anymore....that is too personal...and much too dangerous...anything can happen
