Agreed! It’s like the hate for black and brown people is engraved in their bones. Black people don’t even hate others this much so WHY is it that we are treated so poorly :(.
At this point, I'm beginning to believe that we must be some kind of chosen people. Not necessarily the "lost tribes" from the Bible, but we must have some sort of power that they're trying to suppress and stamp out. How else do you explain the fact that we're still the poorest minority in this country, yet we influence everyone across the globe-with our music, with our dances, with our language, with our style...it literally doesn't make any sense how we seem to be hated and looked down upon, yet admired and looked up to. The biggest conundrum on this planet 😂🤦🏽♀️
As of now I only use Black owned products specifically smaller brands that are literally Black owned and hasn’t been sold off to any big companies. However, Redken, Joico, Keratese, Oribe, and IGK has done wonders for my hair. Honestly even better than some previous black hair care products.
Black owned does not automatically mean non toxic. Let's not pretend like relaxers weren't originally Black owned and opened the doors for more toxins to be introduced into Black hair products. There are many Black hair products from America (Black owned or not) that aren't even allowed to be sold in European stores because of unsafe chemicals. If the US had the same standards and restrictions as many western European countries you'll find that many hair products would be taken off shelves. Personally for me, I'm not trusting any products that would NEVER be sold to white consumers, especially not if the product is coming from the US. Its kinda like how nestle only sells their harmful foods in Asia and Africa but never sell those same products to europeans.
I also buy from a small black owned business who makes all her ingredients natural. It's expensive but it last a long time. I have to store it in the fridge or freezer.
It makes me so sad cuz it makes me think of this one student of mine back when I taught in the city. She was 8 years old with a relaxer and her hairline was so far back. It was a relaxer pulled into the tightest ponytail. And I think of another little girl who's mom made her have a sew in. She came into class scratching her head furiously and with tears was asking me to take it out and I felt so helpless. It's crazy that in a school of 95% black students and staff, only 5-10% had natural hair, including me. In the grades I was teaching, 3rd-5th I was the only one without a wig/weave/synthetic hair/relaxer and the worst part is the kids who got bullied the most were the ones with natural hair. We have to do better. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is death. Ignorance is cancer. Ignorance is the eventual extinction of our people. We need to wake up to reality. If not for us, then at least for the children.
😢 this reminds me of when I was a kid. My mom used to slap a whole bunch of gel in my hair (I specifically remember it being the Ampro styl black gel). I use to go to school and try to scratch the gel out. Eventually, the teacher called my mom. The embarrassment made her slow down on the gel not me telling her repeatedly that I hated it.
This is why when I hear “everything is toxic” I roll my eyes. Bc they continue to use that to justify why tf they’re getting cancer at higher rates than every other woman group, or fibriods and fertility issues bc of need for straight hair, or covering up their beautiful black hair ATP I don’t think we, as a collective group will excel. Only as individuals. Many blk people don’t want to change.
Oh wow 😮 that makes me so sad to hear but thank you for playing your role by embracing your beautiful coily hair in front of young black girls…you’re helping reshape the beauty standard everyday your students see you in that light 🤎🤎🤎

I thank him for teaching me so much 🙏🏽 It saddens me that so many are uneducated about these toxins and how it’s affecting us and our children.
She also stated how some just believe that they have to use “specific products.” Basically just hair care products targeted towards Black people. And I’m glad that she debunked that as well.. Redken, Nexxus, Matrix, and Joico has my hair thriving!

Just an FYI ...DMDM hydantoin is a formaldehyde-releasing agent used as a preservative in hair care products. Kelly Logan (who I love btw...no shade) uses this preservative in alot of her products. Please read labels ladies, research ingredients (if you want ), and don't rely on the manufacturers claim of "paraben free etc.." to determine if something is safe or not. 🛑. For those that don't know , a "formaldehyde releasing agent" aka DMDM hydantoin releases formaldehyde (in small amounts ) into the product. Formaldehyde causes CANCER. It is considered "safe" to use in products due to the low percentage of DMDM used in formulations. 😕

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. We should write letters to our reps, to the brand owners, companies & make phone calls. Why would we need a formaldehyde in the product,😮😮
I’m not surprised by any of this. It’s funny, because there was a trend of folks on social media who were making light of people who were using natural hair products and making their own stuff at home. They spoke out against the raw oils and butters, discouraged the flaxseed and okra gels in favor of all of these mousses and “botanical” gels. Now we see the fallout from Mielle, Olaplex, and other brands pushed on people with natural hair. Kind of makes you think…
I’m glad you found your way to her content. And that she cares enough about her own health and the health of others to speak out and share health improving and potentially life saving information. Ignorance and low health standards has many people unknowingly creating disease in their own bodies simply by their hair product, body product, cleaning product and food product choices.
We can use pure, simple oils like Grapeseed oil, Olive oil, Coconut oil, and mix them ourselves. We can add essential oils, we can make Butters, Conditioners, and even Shampoos. We can buy from a smaller, black owned hair buisiness! There are many of us learning how to infuse herbs in our oils and butters too! Learn from our sisters on you tube! 👍🏾😉
I watched the podcast and she confirmed a lot of things I know. Fragrance is one of the most dangerous ingredient cause you actually don’t know what’s in it. Since fragrance is proprietary, those companies have no obligation to disclose the content. The FDA doesn’t care about people’s health. So please, always go with fragrance free options ad much as you can, especially in lotions, shampoos and conditioners.
I still need to watch the full video…I watched additional clips on TikTok but need to watch the full episode..thanks for sharing additional information from the video 🤎🤎🤎🤎
I always think its weird for a natural to say how natural they are, yet got suave or vo5 and aussie in their hands. I never understood that. So many black hair products and the Black women even have their own website. Theres no excuse. None
@NamasteInYourLane they aren't catered to Black people. Thinks that look gold, black purple, say coconut oil and Shea "curly" hair. That type. And for me personally I just stick to Black owed. #20inchesofrealreal👋🏾
I think some salon grade products are okay but I do agree I try to stick with black owned brands that work well since they are created to black hair such as TGIN and design essentials🤎
Yall go to actual black owned brands that have been tried and true. Not something that says “African” on the bottle. Honestly these brands being in the dollar store i didnt think too much of. They are there with the other cheap stuff people swear by like Aussie and Tressemme. Also Dollar General really is good for having name brand stuff for cheaper. They have dove too. I thought it was to make things easier for people. They wont put laws in to place where they want things to happen to us. Someone else mentioned black people need to gate keep somethings. I agree, the natural hair movement shouldn’t have even been a thing for others to join and capatalize off of. We let it though. Once they seen we didn’t really heal our insecurities they were able to sell a dream. Make another natural hair movement on a black social media app. It will make things clear they are watching.
Hence why I buy black owned I don’t even care if it’s expensive I support us especially bw owned!!!! I use Camille rose I believe that’s still black owned!! I went natural cause our natural hair is beautiful but this is also another major reason!!!
Good to know. Aaand... What is it in it for that asian woman ? What does she sell or want to sell to Black Women for their hair and body ? Let's be informed and not naive.😉
Honestly, I use salon grade products but this is their goal. To get us away from black own products and back to buying their stuff. However, I've tried several black owned hair products and they just don't work as well as what I'm using now.
I would say this too but those products don’t moisturize like the Black-owned ones do + the shampoos may be too stripping. However, I would def apply this ideology to weaves and wigs! Back in like 2005-07 I used to buy my weave from a company called Bohyme. They were sold at some beauty shops & online too. Found out about them on Lipstick Alley (apparently the brand was what the famous models like Naomi wore.) They were a high-end company that catered to all races and NEVER had a funky hair smell ever. In fact, as weird as it sounds, the hair smelled GREAT. Fast forward almost 20 yrs later, they’re still around and their marketing is now catering only to the YTs (& I don’t mean TH-camrs lol). I say all this to say, I’m willing to bet NONE of their customers complain about a smell to this day, even if it’s being sourced from the same place as the others sold to us. Had Bohyme gone and catered to only us, I’m willing to bet all that may have changed w/ the great quality of hair and the toxins allowed in the hair. We def have to vet where we’re getting products as well as the hair that we buy. I wear a wig seldomly and stick to my own hair 97% of the time.
I agree that some salon grade products work well with our hair but like the other commenter stated some white products can be stripping to the hair and there are some amazing black owned products out there we just need to do our research to pick the best products for our coily hair🤎
The “extra” attacks on black people is always so crazy to me…like as a group, what did we collectively do for us to constantly be under a greater attack than everyone else…oh that’s right, nothing, just being ourselves….years ago I woke to a lot of the mess with just learning who we are as race…our skin complexion, hair texture etc….it’s all so magically spiritual…they want to do whatever they can to slow it down 😢

@ It’s a must watch. I watched it at x2 and it goes back fast
I always think its weird for a natural to say how natural they are, yet got suave or vo5 and aussie in their hands. I never understood that. So many black hair products and the Black women even have their own website. Theres no excuse. None
I literally cringe seeing Aussie. I smelled it and was like hell no 😂.
What does the brand have to do with being natural?
I personally use salon grade products now.
Great points and I would love a black owned app …hopefully a successful one can come in fruition in the near future 🤎🤎🤎
Hence why I buy black owned I don’t even care if it’s expensive I support us especially bw owned!!!! I use Camille rose I believe that’s still black owned!! I went natural cause our natural hair is beautiful but this is also another major reason!!!
Yes Camille Rose is still black owned and I agree natural hair is beautiful 🤎🤎🤎
Started doing my own DIYs a few months. Lots of information about DIYS that works on social media. And it's cheaper
I’m going on that path myself 🤎🤎🤎
Hi and new subbie here. This is such a shame!
Yay 😀 thanks for subscribing and I know smh 🤦🏾♀️ 😞
Good to know.
Aaand... What is it in it for that asian woman ? What does she sell or want to sell to Black Women for their hair and body ?
Let's be informed and not naive.😉
I’m not sure if she sells any products and she called out many products during the interview I just highlighted the one that spoke on black hair🤎
Use Caucasian hair brands
@@NamasteInYourLane I’m not into black owned because blacks have mistreated me majority of my life. I’d rather buy salon quality products.
I agree that some salon grade products work well with our hair but like the other commenter stated some white products can be stripping to the hair and there are some amazing black owned products out there we just need to do our research to pick the best products for our coily hair🤎
disturbing ):
I know right smh 🤦🏾♀️
