- In 2008, Abdulah Hamimi suffered extreme injuries in a car crash that left him paralysed and unable to walk. In this excerpt from the OnePath podcast, he reflects on the atheist argument known as the 'problem of evil'.

There is a common response by atheists that says that attempting to explain and understand the human experience of struggle and hardship is simply a psychological coping mechanism, and not a rational one.
However, I just wanted to point out that my argument has a strong rational basis. The basis is the that God exists and the Qur’an is the word of God. And thru this we have an explanatory framework to understand our existence and experience.
If you wish to understand this rational foundation, you will be able to engage with my argument. That is where it is derived from and we can have this conversation 😊. Without which you will not appreciate the argument I have made here.
However, to contrast - the atheist worldview provides no rational explanation for reality or human experience. It just concludes, as Dawkins does - that human experience is just random, meaningless and fundamentally of no value.
Atheism uses emotion to disregard the rational basis for reality. It uses red herrings like making reference to shock and awe examples to cover for its total lack of any meaningful explanation.
If rational intellectual thought is a coping mechanism, then I’m happy to accept that the Islamic worldview satisfies both the heart and mind 😊

Atheism means not having a belief in God,that's it.If the arguments you are using in favour of Islam,these same arguments can be used for every religion.What you referred to as life on Earth meaningless is closer to Islamic view which awaits judgement day eagerly as it has no intrinsic value and just a test for believers.

Atheism is not a worldview, it’s an unbelief in a/any god, I don’t share the same worldview as most people that don’t believe in a god
You go on to talk about rationalism but then say you get your rationalism from a book that let’s be honest we don’t if it is the word of god or just written by some medieval desert dwellers, you nor I have that proof. #rational
And none lf ehat you say brings us any closer to knowing any sort of truth. You provide no evidence....

I agree as one who was paralyzed,I can't even remember a time I cried,doctors thought I should cry, many specialist said I'm in denial and I'll never walk again,I merely responded with "so" I have my heart,my mind and my arms,so I'm thankful it actually gave me that which I had forgotten, compassion for the less fortunate, oh how I gave thanks to God for bringing that back,for my path was becoming more focused on this world's necessity instead of which was important.but still I gave thanks to God for showing me that which I had forgotten, and never listened to physicians that said I'd never walk again, but merely replied I have something that you have forgotten,that is God.then a dream came to me that still I can't shake to this day,nor actually understand.but it led me on a road of wanting to know all words by God,and my time in the wheelchair was spent every waking hour in search, except the times I fell on my face attempting to move a leg and walk ,physicians words were never a thought.and I'd never have imagined where all this would lead me, but almost seven years to the day I took my first step and today I cant run but I can surely walk and my entire life was changed and am now a religious eschatologist.even this pandemic hasn't actually phased me, since I can't explain why I'm abroad,in a desert,away from the US.which all is mind boggling, but never questioned that it was God's will so if any question God's existence,I'd say don't ever question that.some say coincidence,but even the definition of coincidence opens the door to probability. God is closer to you than your juglar vein, and is in absolute control and knows ones heart better than he himself.or in my case "she".God loves each and everyone, and all the names of Allah are not only names but what man's heart should be, most compassionate,then man should follow and show compassion,most merciful then let your heart have mercy,so God bless all those that seek truth, for truth sits in front of everyone if they merely remove the blinders ,it is the blinders that one sees thru tunnel vision and sees hardship instead of where that hardship is actually leading them, God bless,and hold fast and never let your faith falter.hardship lifts the veil not binds it,if man only realized. So let each and everyday strengthen your heart and love for God and each other, for in these days much hardship will come, but hold fast,never falter, for these things must come to pass.and be very vigilant to Deception for Deception is not a simple lie easily recognizable but Deception is truth mixed with falsehood. So brothers and sisters do not divide yourselves over that which is petty, God loves you.

I can understand the brothers point.
I have had 18 surgeries since 2006 (ankle replacement, knee replacement etc etc) and I well have an ACDF operation on my cervical within 7 days.
Only thing I miss is running but all these surgeries guided me to Islam (July 26, 2010) and I was blessed to leave my country (USA) and live & work in Egypt and I was blessed with a family (wife & daughter)
Alhamdulillah for everything. Alhamdulillah for all the bad & good.

Allaah said in the Qur'an : "I know what you don't know". Doing Islam guarantees one to achieve peace.

"˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving." Quran 67 2.
If Allaah wills, He can make everyone a muslim, but again, Allaah created this life as tests for us. Allaah said in the Qur'an :
"And We have revealed to you, [O Muúammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.”(Qur'an 5 48)
Allaah's judgement will be the most just. He said in the Qur'an :
"Indeed, Allah never wrongs ˹anyone˺-even by an atom’s weight.1 And if it is a good deed, He will multiply it many times over and will give a great reward out of His grace." Quran 4 40.
You don't need to be all able to motivate or destroy anyone. This brother is the example for that. He destroyed the argument and motivated us all. So try harder and harder, become stronger. And be patient, As allah says in the quran, *"After every difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief."* (66:07) and *"so be patient, indeed the promise of God is truth"*

1 / Uninstall all the unnecessary apps on the mobile.
2 / Uninstall all the types of games (delete with information, data and achievement of the game so that even if you install the game again, you have to play from the beginning again)
3 / Uninstall all the types of social apps. And if you can't do that, do not enter every day for 15-20 days or after 1 month, enter once and do all the work (such as uploading photo, video, inviting to Islam and if you want to do any other work) and uninstall after working.
4 / Keep mobile data and Wi-Fi off as much as possible.
5 / Bring the use of TH-cam within the limitation (for example, by clicking on the download option on youtube, download some videos, watch them, turn off mobile data and Wi-Fi).
6/ Timely 5 time prayeing Salaah.
7 / First of all, there should be a desire to reduce the use of mobile phones.

Yup, that wisdom doesn’t come straightaway. You will not understand & questioning it at the beginning, but later on, slowly but surely you will understand why & will not change a thing if given a chance.
My favorite part was when he said "If I was offered to re-write my fate as I wish, I wouldn't want to. Because I can't write a better plan than Allah himself." Allah is the best planner and we should be grateful for what happened to us.

Atheists talk from the point of view that this life is everything and that there is nothing after this so they are desperate to cling onto this life and to maximise the good that happens to them. As Muslims (and Christians and Jews) we believe in the hereafter and that there is an ultimate reward. We already know that children who pass away before the age of maturity (whether they have suffered or not) will go straight to heaven. Those who are suffering are having their sins washed away and they will reap the reward in the hereafter but as an atheist you will never understand that.
An Atheïst doesn't "understand" it because there is no proof yet to believe this. It sounds beautiful but that doesn't make it true. You say that religious people "know" it but there is still no proof of that. If there was, we wouldn't be Atheïsts. So what information do you have that I simply don't have? Just trying to be friendly and not making people angry or upset!

Which religion should I choose? All of these over millennia are nothing but poor attempts at explaining the world. Your religion is just another example of the most recent attempt. You know the truth? And all those who came before? And all those that will come after? Those believing in some other brand of nonsense when Islam & Christianity are considered nothing but mythologies? They will all proclaim they have the truth too.
I chose to study math and science instead. When you’ve researched any of that then maybe you’ll be less ignorant and understand that if there’s a god, he was nevertheless not a requirement to build a universe.

The answer of that person is great and rational. I would like just to add some points to it:
1. Allah gave us the "Amana", the conscious soul and free will in Dunia but we abused it so the bad things happening to us are results of our bad actions and injustice we do to each other, "
Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of (the meed) that the hands of men have earned, that (Allah) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that they may turn back (from Evil).". So, if there's a bone cancer happening to a child then we should blame the modern life style with all kinds of pollution and poisoning that are man made. It doesn't make sense to blame Allah for that.
2. Why it's happening sometimes to good people? It's only to make them better or for some other good reason we don't know. There's a beautiful example for that mentioned in the story of Mosses pbuh with Al Khedr (the man with knowledge from Allah) in Surat Al Kahf, and it shows how bad things can turn out to be good ones.
3. We're all in this. Bad things are happening to all of us to purify our souls and to increase our Iman, so instead of asking why it happened to me, the question should be why it didn't happen to me?
Finally, I add this statement in Arabic:

Other life forms don't use it and certainly not lions, the behavior that you describe "protecting their son or fleeing from a predator " is a well known type of rapid decision making of the brain depending on a lot of variables (like the strength of the opponent) to either risking your own life while having a chance to reproduce in the future with an extra offspring that you could protect or fleeing and sacrificing one offspring so you can keep your own life and reproduce in the future. May anyone be satisfied with the condition in which Allah has made them born and the hardship or easy life that Allah made them go through. That's the way to succes right there cause people tend to forget that they are here to pass a test and that they only will receive the results in the hereafter. They think that money or heath and wealth is success !!! You can't succeed in this world but you can feel the success for the other world. It's like being in a class and finding the test too easy and that there no way we will not pass the test. That happened to some of us, right? Well, that was just a test in this life but there is the bigger test of this life.. We are in class people, being tested. Please focus in the test please. Would you worry about your condition or the condition of another personne while in a class passing a rest for a job ? You will be failing then, right? So foooooooocus please. Allah got it all. Just be patient and you will see how wise He is when we all will be summoned on that day cause to Him we will ultimately be returned. Now go start reading the story of Joseph in chapter 12 of the Quran and it might help you staying focussed in this testing period in which we are in this world. Joseph succeeded, right? Well, he went through a lot, right? What if the handicapped and the molested ones and the born with bone cancer ones etc will be going to heaven for eternity and you, the healthy, wealthy and easy life one will end up in the hellfire for eternity ? And that, for just not having been able to be wise enough to not judge the Judge before His judgement? So stop judging please and do what you have been asked for to succeed. For " Surely those who believe, those who are Jewish, the Christians and the Sabeans ; any of you who (1) believes in Allah, (2) believes in the last day and (3) leads a righteous life, they will receive their reward from their Lord. They will have nothing to fear and they will not grieve" Quran 2:62 and 5:69.

Allah never said he would test humans with diseases. There’s fear, hunger, loss of wealth, loved ones; but never diseases. Those are our own creations. Causes of our own transgressions. Cancer doesn’t just spring out of nowhere. It has causes. Our food, environments and habits play a role in it. While the ailing individual may not be directly responsible for the disease, you can’t blame on Allah for it.

It’s pretty straightforward here, right? The chaos of this world is attributed to the actions of man. Mind you it’s chaos, not suffering. Suffering (of a prey being devoured by its predator while it’s still alive, for example) does exist. But what man does, his greed, exacerbates the situation. Think about diabetes. No matter how we put it, it IS caused by gluttony. Might not necessarily be of the diseased individual, but of one of his ancestors.
And when we recite the beginning prayer of the congregational prayer, if you chose the long one, the one starting with وَجّهتُ وجهِيَ للذي خلق السماوات ....it goes on to say: لبّيك وسَعَدَيْكَ، والخير كله بِيديك، *والشَّرُّ لَيْسَ إلَيْكَ*....
Which means something like “I’ve answered to your call, and I’m pleased with you, and all good is in your two hands, and *the evil never goes back to you.* It is from these and as well as some more instances that I explicated the Islamic stance on the existence of evil. But of course, there will be this question remaining of “who created evil in the first place?” But that goes in to the domain of قضى والقدر which we can’t comprehend. The point I wanted to bring the readers’ attention to was that, we can’t completely wash our hands off the suffering that is present in our world. And the verses and the ahadith seem to agree on it too. Allah know’s best.
Plus, how did you infer that I claimed that Allah has limited control on our affairs, I can’t understand.

But in Islam people will enter paradise but the rewards waiting for them there will not be the same. Sinners will be punished according to theri sins, Good doers will be rewarded according to their deeds.
Eg a man lives his whole life forgetting God and sinning, just before a day he dies, he has a change in heart he believes in God and begs his forgiveness and the next day he dies. God will forgive him and he will enter paradise. Another man who dedicates his whole life for God and worships him and follows his commands and dies upon it. This man will also enter paradise. But the rewards waiting for them are not the same.
You asked about a child with cancer. He grows up believes in God, shows patience, does his best to please the God and dies. The reward waiting for him is greater than the reward of a healthy individual. As for the family they take good care of him, they show patience, they does their best to please the God and the reward waiting for them is greater than that of a normal family.
For us Believers this world is just place of trails and tribulations. Eternity awaits us, where you reap the rewards of your deeds.
I call you upon Islam, to believe in One God and to follow his Messenger Muhammad. So that you may attain success in this world and the hereafter.

If the life is a Test for the Hereafter how can there be no Test in health, wealth, children, loss of crops.
Yusuf's (alayhis salam) father cried for his missing son so much and so that he became blind.
If it wasn't for him then it would have been drastic for the community from the tyrannical King. Every person, community is Tested with different things.
Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test?
We certainly tested those before them. And in this way Allah will clearly distinguish between those who are truthful and those who are liars.
Or do the evildoers simply think that they will escape Us? How wrong is their judgment!
Whoever hopes for the meeting with Allah, let them know that Allah’s appointed time is sure to come. He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
And whoever strives in Allah’s cause, only does so for their own good. Surely Allah is not in need of any of His creation.
As for those who believe and do good, We will certainly absolve them of their sins, and reward them according to the best of what they used to do.
We have commanded people to honour their parents. But if they urge you to associate with Me what you have no knowledge of, then do not obey them. To Me you will all return, and then I will inform you of what you used to do.
Those who believe and do good will surely be admitted by Us into the company of the righteous.
There are some who say, “We believe in Allah,” but when they suffer in the cause of Allah, they mistake this persecution at the hands of people for the punishment of Allah. But when victory comes from your Lord, they surely say to the believers, “We have always been with you.” Does Allah not know best what is in the hearts of all beings?
Allah will certainly distinguish between those who have sure faith and the hypocrites.

It's completely senseless and irrational to say that reason has something to do with Religion.
Religion as we know it evolved into something that fills a lot of needs we have. It's comforting. It provides community. It provides answers. It just provides a lot of what we naturally yearn for.
Religion has gone through so many iterations, constantly changing over time to meet the needs of current society.
And since we can choose which religion and what parts "speak" to us, we are the selecting pressure to make religions into exactly what we want. I think that's why religion, as an idea, it's so successful. It's a shortcut to providing what we want.
