Birthright citizenship, also known as jus soli, is the legal principle that grants citizenship to individuals born within a country's territory, regardless of their parent's nationality.

    • @lissaC.W.
      @lissaC.W. หลายเดือนก่อน +21

We’ve had birthright citizenship since the beginning of this country. It’s in the 14th amendment to change it now is inhumane because then we can pick out any group of people that we want and subject them and potentially risk their lives simply because we don’t care for them. It’s a very slippery slope in a dangerous process. It does not matter where you’re born. If you’re born in that land that is your nationality no matter what. It’s different when a tourist gives birth. They usually take their kid back home to their country but if someone was here for a long time and they’re applying for citizenship, and they happen to have a baby in that process to strip that babies rights is inhumane, especially when they’ve been in this country for long period of time and contributed well to society.

Which a long time ago but still not since the beginning!
And there are already exceptions to that rule.
      Suck as..
being born to a foreign diplomat,
being the child of a member of a hostile occupying force, or
being a child of a tribal family which owes direct allegiance to its tribe.
So its not such a reach to say those born here of illegal aliens are in fact the child of a occupying force.
Iam sure that would be fought in the courts.
But keep in mind it would end at the scotus and Trump has them on his side.
So the very first fight in the courts over this will be the last!

Asylum is for those rare cases where foreigners come to the United States (often temporarily) because their lives are in jeopardy and they are at risk of retaliation by the ruling party in their home country. The United States has a long tradition of affording this type of protection. However, that kindness by the United States citizenry is being abused and the vast majority of current day migrants do not meet our asylum requirements and are nothing more than economic migrants looking to improve their standing of living. I think it’s about time we stop offering asylum to foreigners if we cannot control our borders sufficiently.

I became a United States citizen in 2004 and it took me less than two months. The process of becoming a United States citizen has nothing to do with the presidency.
It has more to do with existing legislation from Congress.
The president alone cannot change the rules of the process, he needs Congress to pass some form of legislation modifying the current process. The president can proclaim an executive law, but real changes to immigration law have to come through Congress.
The president can propose to Congress as it happened in 1986 with IRCA also known as the Simpson - Mazzoli law.

Ignorance in those countries astounding just go round and ask people what the three branches of government is, and you’ll be surprised. People lack basic education here and this is why I believe more funding should be actually funnel to education. But no the rich benefits off of people being stupid unfortunate fact . But the way people don’t even know basic civics in this country always continues to blow my mind. Let alone, knowing the history or language of different countries. I went to school in Germany and high school for about two years. and the curriculum there was far beyond more intense in America. I actually had to take two or three of my classes in Spanish, which is my second language. And I had to take two in German, which was my third. I’ll tell you it really knocked me down a peg as someone who I thought was a very advanced student in America. It took me a while to catch up. And everyone I came across always knew the constitution of the United States more than most Americans even in Latin America too. I also live in Dominican republic. I’ve been there as well. It’s pretty embarrassing actually.

@@lissaC.W., I have taken the test, it is written in English and there is a booklet provided to us to be studied to be schedule for a test, it is like taking a class about the United States of America, if you are at least a high school graduate and understand which the government assumed since one of the qualifications for taking the test is at least 5 year full time residency in the country. I think most of the naturalized citizen knew more about the U S A than the natural born citizens because it is a pre requisite that you have to pass the test, therefore you have to at least know most of what U S A government rules and regulations and its Constitution is all about, but again I am just talking about experience.

@@111riviera yeah I know a lot of people who went through the whole immigration process, and they know the constitution a lot more than people who are born here and went through high school and took a quick class and civics. even though my children aren’t in seventh grade, which is usually the time they start learning about the constitution I started teaching them about the bill of right, declaration of independence, the legislative executive and branch how it works etc… just the basics when they were in second grade. And it is something I want them to continue to remember because it’s really important. I’ve gotten into debates with people who truly believe the vice President of the United States when Donald Trump was president could overturn an election or that Nancy Pelosi had control of the national guard at the time of January 6. of course they had no power when it came to either of those positions and the fact that I’m arguing with people who were born here and raised here simply because someone tells them something different is mind blowing. And it’s not the sound smug or to be a snob whatsoever it’s just highly concerning my fellow Americans. A lot of them won’t even know which branch of government the president is in control of.
I see a lot of foreigners come into this country and have a well understanding of the constitution when they’re applying for citizenship. Our educational system in this country is terrible and it’s only gonna get worse if we don’t focus more on getting funding for education. But a lot of politicians who are billionaires are would care less when it comes to education unfortunately, I believe they preferred that their citizens remain ignorant and believe whatever they say without question.

Oh the bliss of ignorance. To become a US citizen you have to have a reason or platform for it. There is no merit based citizenship like Britain, Canada or Australia to name a few.
So you can either be petitioned by a citizen (Spouse, parent, sibling) , by an employer , by asylum, lottery or by special dispensation (special services to the state, like having your daughter marry the president). They all last different amounts of time ranging from 12 months to up to 10+ years. There is no line you can join that leads to citizenship. Only these avenues. After you get your green card, then after 3 years you can apply for citizenship. The silly people that immigrated when this country still had an actual immigration path speak about things that no longer exist.
Most of the Hispanics that are now so anti immigration got theirs with Reagan’s amnesty, while being illegals themselves. We are a selfish country that thinks while it doesn’t affect me I can be against it. We only change our tune once it affects us personally…this applies to this, war, minorities, gay rights, etc.

They don’t cared these questions floor me, illegal is ilegal. Don’t count on America to help you stay even if they were in Iraq, Afghanistan , Syria ? Trump did the Muslim ban so he will not give exceptions.

Unfortunately, this will have a tremendous unintended consequence, like prohibition when we tried to force a morally upright society, which actually made things worse with the explosion of drugs, number running, and prostitution while making it also illegal to consume alcohol. But the biggest lesson we should have learned is making something illegal that many people want will only increase its value, thus making the mob into millionaires overnight. We did the same thing with drugs in the 80s, which created the cartels because of the war on drugs, and actually, it didn't stop the drugs, I don't think it evan slowed it down. And here we are again, about to enact a policy that sounds great in theory but has not been proven effective with minimum drawbacks. This will not stop smuggling or trafficking but, it will make it more lucrative as an unintended consequence!😢

I'm a green card holder with a clean record, and I'm planning to travel to Mexico from December 23 to January 6. However, I'm feeling a bit anxious about everything Trump has said regarding immigrants. What are your thoughts? Do you think I'll be okay traveling during this time?

I suggest to anyone who believes the notion they can leave their country for the so-called American Dream to think hard. Stay where the color of your skin, language, or culture is not used to discriminate against you and your children regardless of how much you contribute to the nation. Why come to a country that is filled with so much racial hatred and religious hypocrisy? Stay home where you are loved and respected because of your character and heritage.

Felons have to do it. What’s the problem. I’m so sick of the double standards maybe all Americans should get green cards because in America, the American is the foreigner

We should extend the vetting process and have them wait longer, require to learn the English language, show proof that as immigrants they paid for the birth of their children and not use government aid, food stamps or section 8. Worked for 3 years straight and “Never” worked 6 moths then filed for unemployment while working under the table to double dip.

Your name is JUAN RUIZ. Let that sink in. Just know, you will be targeted everyday regardless of how much you have proven you did all these things you just listed. You are the main reason they started this.
