    There's the story of the lady (in the US) who wouldn't share her cookie recipe. She would always say "over my dead body." Her family had the recipe engraved on the back side of her headstone.

    Spike Milligan the writer and comedian wanted the quite innocent “I told you I was ill” on his gravestone. He found a cemetery that would tolerate it but they decided it couldn’t be in English. It’s in Irish.

      Fantastic piece of tombstone trivia, I don't know that. Some prudes may argue it's in slightly bad taste, although certainly not vulgar, yet it was still so heavily censored

    "1 million people have been buried here, there are currently 65,000 graves". What happened to the other 935,000 people?

    • @dreadlindwyrm
      @dreadlindwyrm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not all burials are singles, so some might be taken up by double burials.
      Some burials might be temporary, pending the body being moved.
      If a graveyard gets full, sometimes the oldest bodies are dug up, or a new body is buried on top of them in the same plot.
      EDIT : In another post the OP mentioned that some of the burials are those of cremated persons, which don't count as a grave as such.

    • @DanSchaumann
      @DanSchaumann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you. Yeah unfortunately I made a mistake in terminology. I should have said "interred" rather than buried. But it's true that a million people have called this cemetery their final resting place.

    Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. It's an old Victorian era cemetery. The 'Cox' family memorial. Let's just say that family had a sense of humour about their name!

      What a fascinating guy with a tragic end... he took his own life so he wouldn't go to prison for moonshining? Listening to the song about his life by Hank Williams III now. I need to visit his grave. Thanks

      I knew a fella that was from Popcorn's area. I would buy a couple of quarts from him every year. Popcorn did a few flavors.
