I always pondered how much of dunkeys commentary is scripted in his vids, and how much is actually on the fly. This video finally lets me retain peace of mind: dunkey is fuckin funny on the fly.
I think it took him a while to be comfortable in front of a live camera. Go and look at him when he was first on the H3 Podcast, he was so shy. But he's clearly able to be himself in front of a live camera now.

There are people who take it much further into post-irony like MDE. Who are absolutely hilarious but have very dodgy politics. I think it's how he can seamlessly merge irony and earnestness that is really special.

I think it's usually a mix of both. He'll record himself playing the game + commentary, and he'll also do a few voice over lines/jokes.
