This was an offline run so no chat or mic. With this run, I now have the record for all three characters in the glitched categories for Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
So this run has received a couple of additional strats and optimizations, mainly adding the Carnival Night 1 level wrap in the route, alternate method of Flying Battery 1 level wrap and a new route in Sandopolis 2.
Outside of a very bad Launch Base 2 and a 2nd try Sandopolis 1 level wrap, this run was very good. 23:xx is possible.

What is RTA-TB?
RTA-TB stands for Real Time Attack minus Time Bonus. Sonic 3 speedruns are timed using standard real time, but eliminating the time it takes for the time bonus from each act to finish. The reason for this is because you are awarded a 50000 point time bonus whenever you finish an act under a minute, which takes 8.7 seconds. Over a minute and it'll give you 10000 points, which takes 1.8 seconds. So if two runners finished a level with a 0:59 time and a 1:00 time respectively, the slower runner would have the time advantage due to the longer time bonus on the faster player. Raw RTA would encourage intentionally going slow to go fast, which is stupid, so RTA-TB was born.

Wow, congratulations! I always found Knuckles' adventure to be so overshadowed by Sonic and Tails' adventure.
Edit: Now that you've gotten wr for every character in s3k, maybe you should try the games seperately? I know Sonic 3 in particular has more glitches and lots of level design changes.

Brilliant, but your times are taking the piss out of everyone in the world. lol I haven't played this game since the 90s. The going through walls was known back then, they had magazines saying about those short cuts. The ones I haven't seen before is sliding about in the air, that looked a bit freaky.'

Hmm after watching this, Im not sure I would consider this a legit speedrun. Using the glitches on Metropolis and Wing Fortress to me isn't a pure speedrun... but they are a part of the game left in by the developers so... grey area.... I might have to try what you did and see what happens with my time lol.
Obviously that level was later in development as we can all see from all of the prototypes... I know some people will consider it acceptable and others won't but, for me... you gotta play out the level without using any glitched areas for it to be legitimate.
Its still impressive and I guess if everyone is using the same glitches than it is 'fair' but... I'd think this wouldn't go in the pure speedrun section. I've been playing this game forever since day 1 and have never used those tactics in a speedrun, it makes me think if I did I'd have a chance at being a lot closer to this number. The best one I ever got was 16:01..... and it makes me feel like if I did this, I'd at least be a lot closer to 15 minutes. I don't watch a lot of speedrun videos to know if everyone does the same thing though. I play games and barely watch them,,, I never saw the point to it, I'd rather play and find my own way of being faster than copy what other people do anyways. But then I see 'world record' and I'm like ok why not,,, then see the way this was done at it kind of disappoints me that this would be considered a legitimate pure completion of a game.
