    Re the question on overdrive/distortion pedals, based on the styles of music you typically play on your channel (ie, lower gain tones):
    1. Wampler Tumnus. This is my "cannabis pedal" because it takes everything pleasurable in my tone, and makes it sweeter.
    2. Eathquaker Devices Plumes. It's a tube screamer type pedal with three separate voices!!! And it's only $99!!
    Tumnus stacked with Plumes also can create some glorious lo to mid-gain tones.

    Thank you, I have kind of started making these overlapping colors in my exercises and playing based on your previous videos, even before I saw this lesson. Though just kind of. So it's great to have the background and intentional extentions, as always, thank you

    After seeing and hearing Arne Jansen play the Vemuram Jan Ray Overdrive, I bought it too, and I haven’t used another one since. I use it for slightly overdriven sounds and I love its clarity and warmth without changing the colour of my guitar.

    I’ve recently been used the 1981 Inventions LVL. It’s a light gain OD but I love it. I’m now been looking at the 1981 DRV which has a great reputation of being a great distortion pedal. They’re a bit pricey but strongly considering getting one because of how much I love the LVL.

    Suhr Riot Overdrive, It's supposed to sound like a 100watt tube amp. You don't have to use it as a high gain pedal. It's also quite nice for just a little bit of tasteful dirt :)

    I don't understand.
    Are you playing e minor and b minor pentatonic over there A minor chord?

    • @pedrotavares8691
      @pedrotavares8691 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 5 (E minor) and the 9 (B minor) extensions...thus the "color"....but if u use the major Penta the "color" would be with different chords.

  • @SelfPropelledDestiny
    @SelfPropelledDestiny 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I definitely knew about phrasing with Am, Dm, and Em as they are all diatonic to the key of Am. But haven't tried using the Bm (B D E F# A) on it.
    Seeing that Bm penta is exactly the same notes as Em penta, except F# vs G, I'm guessing you have to watch that F# clash more on certain chords?

    Nice lesson thanks !
    Overdrive for Jazzers is different than for your average blues rock sligner.
    You are probably used to playing with a lot of dynamics comming from your right hand. A lot of overdrive pedals will compress a lot and get rid of that dynamic. You might want to try something that is really open like the Hudson Electronics Broadcast, the Lovepedal Tchula or the Greer amps Lightspeed ...
    Peace ✌️

    I've always preferred getting my distortion from my amp not from a pedal. I will use an overdrive pedal to boost solos. For that i use a MXR ZW-44 Zakk Wylde overdrive pedal. I like it better than a Tube Screamer cause it seems to have more bite & punch. To each his own.

    Rat is great, but IMO the best is the Boss OD-1. Crack the gain knob for some nice crunch, but when combined with a slightly overdriven amp its amazing. Generally speaking, the best "fat" distortion sounds for soloing come from a combination of an overdrive with the volume rolled to max (use gain and tone for color) running into an overdriven amp.

  • @arifq123
    @arifq123 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is a good lesson. It looks like, by using the E minor and B minor pentatonics, you're adding the 6th and the 9th of the A scale to the A minor pentatonic. Is this correct?

  • @rohanganguli7556

    get a blues driver if you like dynamics in your playing, or else get an ODR mini by Nobels for over drive sounds, for distortion i use the black matter by TC electronics...all are great options

    Like when you think of ot like colors, makes so much sence. I use a Tube screamer, Behringer VT 999 tube, Husky Drive, Golden Horse, DOD FX 54, HB Fussy Logic, HB Big Fur and 5-6 multi things that has fuzz in them. Sometimes just one, some times a chain of four, with just a little bit on each one, but the end result is big and jet clearer.

    Hello ! Rotem, I really like your lessons, I’m thinking about purchasing a course on lofi, if it’s about modal interchange? As far as I understand, in modern jazz, neo-soul, they use non-diatonic progressions, or maybe you will have a lesson about this in the future? What about the relationships between modes and chords? Thank you.

    If you overlay the E minor pentatonic over the A minor pentatonic, you’re basically just playing the A minor scale, wouldn’t you say? Just without the 6th.

    For me, gain has to be analog. The modern digital gear does a fantastic job of spacial and modular effects. And even a decent job of compressors, rack emulators, and even amps. But none of them get the gain stuff right. I have an HX in rig and I love it! But all my gain is either from the amp circuit or from analog pedals. Nothing else sounds right to me 😂

      @@RotemSivanGuitar its s bit feedback-y yea. but i kinda like that sound :) if you want something super transparent I'd look at more of a Timmy clone or a Klon clone. I think Gilad uses a TImmy clone for his overdrive. Also Julian Lage used a JAM pedals Lucy Dreamer (kind of like a Klon) which sounded awesome. For a preamp, I use the RC Booster v2 -- i absolutely love that pedal, can't live without it (i also play more blues and rock and stuff though!)

    All notes belong to C major scale, with the exception of Bb. And this scale is called C minor bebop scale. So you can think in different pentatonics or you can think with major scale. Thinking with pentatonics help beginner guitarist because of the same fingering... Thanks Rotem for sharing❤
