Hey 👋 Micah! Of course we love all of your videos because of your unique style and perspective. These exploration and historical videos are favorites of ours.
Hey Micah, thank you for reminding me about Skull Kingdom. It was there when we first visited Orlando while staying at Give Kids the World village in Kissimmee with our terminally ill daughter in April 1994. I think it was still there when we returned, staying at Disney's All Star Music resort in 1998 after losing Carla in December 1994.
Love this type of content, I Drive changes so quickly, I still have fond memories of Race Rock , The Mercado , Festival Bay Mall and Steve and Barry's. The big dog store. Who remembers sizzler out the front of what was the quality inn, now the Rosen Inn. Blink and you miss it in Orlando.
Thanks Micah! My favourite type of video of yours. I always remember going to the Mystery Fun House in 1989 and I remember running to the end of the car park to look at all the soil and building work going on for Universal Studios. Even though I was only about 6 or 7 at the time, I always remember thinking "I hope I come back one day" Fortunately we did, the next time being in 1992. Funny how you remember certain things from your childhood.
Hi, love watching you go around Orlando, we have missed not being able to come over due to covid, hopefully we will make it in May 22, we dont go to the parks anymore as been there and done them so many times, we love just driving around, we love Disney springs and Old town, keep vligs coming as long as you safe. Thank you.
As a side note in 1985 at Tupperware Convention center which is now the Orange County convention center I was so blessed to been able to see The Beastie Boys open for Madonna . A concert I’ll never forget
Love these videos. I was in town last week for HHN and stayed at the Holiday Inn next to the first location. I had no idea what it used to be. Very cool!
Skull kingdom was awesome characters would meet you at the door.,The attraction that hardly ever gets covered was the Elvis Presley museum where Elvis plane was in the parking lot. It was somewhere near the Walgreens or cvs that’s there now . Also in the way back days Like the 70s I drive shops hotels etc were on only one side of sand lake. The other side of sand lake with icon park etc barely had anything.
Before there was Fun Spot, there was Kart World located on north l Drive across from Sonics! And Fun N Wheels located behind Popeyes on Sand Lake & l Drive! 90s - 2000s era!
I love these videos! I did two DCPs and stayed seasonal until last year, and ever since then I’ve been interested in Orlando-area attractions/ shops/ hotels etc of the past. Your channel is my favorite for this kind of history!
Love your videos, Micah. Do you remember the former rent-your-own-airboat location on 192? So excited that we can finally return next week, for visit number 27.
Yay - you made it through Mystery Fun House without getting yelled at. During quarantine I was so bored a bought a bike and ride down IDrive looking for old memories. Volcano Island, Wet N Wild, The Mercado, the model train museum. I had my World of Micah vids on hand to help me. 😁
Great episode, I am old enough to remember Skull Kingdom though never got the chance to experience it. Looking forward to more episodes like this, keep up the good work...👍
In the old Mystery Fun House parking lot, there was a hut for Rise and Float hot air balloon tours...we knew the people who owned and operated that business. One of my favorite memories as a kid was doing the sunrise flight...back then you could get close to Disney.
I never went to Skull Kingdom but I remember seeing it when we drove by. I did go to the Mystery Fun House. Brings back great memories. Thanks for sharing!!!
I really enjoy these types of videos. Brings back memories of past Orlando visits. Thanks for sharing. I miss the Race Rock Cafe on I drive, I believe it was next to that heliport were the Dave and Busters is located. The big monster truck that was located outside the Cafe is located at the Fun Spot next to Old town now.
Train world..... Was owned by two brothers but if you look at the building from above its the shape of a horse shoe. Had the privilege of befriending the brothers and spending many hours of our vacation inside running the model trains.... A few years later me and an ex explored the area opposite train world in the car park of a restaurant and I don't k ow whether it was unrelated or not as I couldn't find out anything online but there were plenty of tracks embedded in the parking lot of a restaurant on the opposite side of the road!
I was sad when they tore down Wet N Wild. I only got to visit when I was 15 years old. I always hoped my kids and me would've got a chance to all go together. Unfortunately not 😟
Before Whirley Dome, the one building was basketball related and the statue had a basket ball. Went to Volcano golf in 2015 for a birthday. Still have the pictures. The entrance building had a jumpscare picture and the was a paddleboat ride around the golf course. There was a Van's skate park at what used to be Festival Bay mall.Just realized I have pics from 2010 of Pirate's Cove golf at Crossroads. If those pics or the Volcano golf pics are of interest, glad to share them with you, one historian to another.
I visited Skull Kingdom a couple of times, it was a good haunt, there was also a skycoaster next to the ihop near the old skull kingdom, I used to eat at the ihop and watch the skycoaster, I think the skycoaster may have been removed for skull kingdom, not too sure about that. Stayed in the circular hotel tower next to ihop a few times, it was a Howard Johnson’s back then, I still have my cherished skull kingdom lapel pin..
- Also on I-Drive, was the popular Wet'n'Wild, huge water park for its time, The Titanic Exhibit/Museum located inside the former Mercado, the original Train Museum (different then the one you mentioned), a Gun attraction where you could rent a variety real guns and fire them (indoor shooting range), also thinking there was an upside down building, and, a Go Kart park, and a large Pinball Arcade. ALSO.... I-Drive ended where the super McDonalds is, there was just a dirt road, that some of us locals would use as a short-cut down to the Sea World area to bypass I-4
We went to Skull Kingdom in January 1999. Only other customer was one slightly drunk guy who went thru with us. Sad that new management came in and destroyed the Attraction along with the joy and enthusiasm that the employees had.
So the story and reasoning behind the zombie island sign is this: volcano island miniature golf went bankrupt in 2015. It sat abandoned for about 6 months until zombie world studios llc bought the property in 2016. for about a year or two they started working on the property until they financially failed and now a real estate company owns the property and is for sale and that's the sad but interesting story of volcano/zombie island.
🙏 Please say he talks about Skull Kingdom 🙏 After watching: Second mention, nice! I was in high school back in 2002ish, and my best friend and I spent a random, boring Saturday night getting h**h as f**k and then went to Skull Kingdom lolololol!!! Only time I ever went there. And it was an experience, let me tell you! The scare actors knew what was up, and we were the only patrons they had there at the time…and they went alllllllll out 😂. Thanks for bringing this now boring old lady back to a very fun time- that seems like a lifetime ago!!
Great sites... I wonder how much it cost the restaurant to redo the whirlyball guy.... Looks like they did a pretty good job.... I wonder if they just put a mold on top or broke up old parts and put on new stuff...... It kinda of seems hard for small attractions like ones that are gone now to survive ( or for new ones to be built..) with more stuff to do at the big theme parks now... .icon park and old town/ funspot seem to be doing great, but they seem to be a good size (not small..) compared to other past ( now gone) attractions.... . thanks for sharing... Take care.... Have a great day.... thanks...,👍👍👍👍
Imagine Skull Kingdom now as a Castle Grayskull themed mini Park, All He-Man Related attraction , I remember Circus World back in the 80's I use to go there, now the newest soon-to-be history is Holly Land
There used to be a great Sci-Fi and anime store right near the Skull Kingdom that sold Memorabilia, DVD and VHS movies, and anime series. I can't remember the name?????
that Dave and busters was where race rock restaurant used to be it was a race car themed restaurant back in the 90s and the train land muesem and helicopter tour place used to be a wax muesem called stars hall of fame it was owned by six flags it was there in the 70s and icon park was also where a shopping mall called the Mercado used to be
I remember the race Rock that place was a pretty cool site and the food actually wasn't that bad. But wasn't the location of the helicopter ride back in the 90s didn't it used to be horse related in some way? I believe the building is supposed to be shaped like a horseshoe.
And I wish I could go to race Rock when it was around I've never been there but I know the history of attractions in Orlando but I have been to mystery fun house twice when it was open and I miss that place so much

I have a picture of me in front of the mural at Mercado when I was a kid

Visited skull Kingdom in May 2004. Was in orlando in holidays... Flew from Ireland.... Was at mystery fun house back in 1986 on family holiday.
Other than the theme parks and Old Town I always enjoy when you do these vlogs visiting locations of former Orlando attractions
Super cool video! I love seeing the Bronze Kingdom statue! He's changed a whole lot since he was a baskeball player years ago.

Your like an Orlando archeologist.
Shucks! Thank you
Thank you Micah! Enjoyed your walk down memorial lane! Always look forward to your vlogs.
Love these. Bring back memories. You going to visit pointe Orlando? Back in the early 2000s we used to love visiting FAO Schwarz. Cheers mate🇬🇧

i went to race rock it was fun
I used to work at Epcot in the mid 90s and would see the Bigfoot truck on the back of RaceRock every time I drove to work.

I was sad when they tore down Wet N Wild. I only got to visit when I was 15 years old. I always hoped my kids and me would've got a chance to all go together. Unfortunately not 😟
Great content. Have you ever done a video on Hollywood Stars Hall of Fame that was next to Sea World in the 1970s?
I grew up in Orlando and it’s so weird to see how everything has changed.
It’s always changing

My dad Bill Swan made a lot of iconic fiberglass statues which are in a short Amazon ebook for only 14.99 called "The man behind the mufflerman ".
I could see that first building that sells the tickets from our hotel room at double tree this weekend, LOL.
