Well, the Euros love to highlight running onto the green at Brookline, but when they won this year, there was a lot of celebration on the green and Euro players lining the green when Zack Johnson was still on the course. The whole idea behind Samuel Ryder instigating such an event was to promote harmony and sportsmanship between the USA and Great Britain and Ireland as it was then. Unfortunately the whole "us versus them" thing has grown out of hand as of late and the original message seems to have been forgotten, certainly from what I see from some of the comments. Golf is a game of honour, honesty, integrity and humility, Nicklaus and Jacklin being a great example of the way it should be.
Believe me, the Ryder Cup isn't the only contest in sports that has had an "Us vs. Them" mentality. The Olympics from 1956-1988 being a huge example. Not to mention Pierre De Cobertin's message of goodwill and understanding among countries. Unfortunately, that message wasn't sent went the USSR made their debut in 1952.
