  • Car That Ate My Brain follows film maker, hot rod historian and builder Piero De Luca in his quest to build a replica of the car known as “Tweedy Pie” a 1923 Model T Ford roadster made famous by Ed ‘Big Daddy” Roth. Revell and Roth turned the car into a famous model kit and influenced many, selling over 11 million units to date. This series we tag along with Piero and his friends and see the clone come to life over a 2 year span that is still going on today.
    In this episode we give you guys a history lesson about the famed Tweedy Pie and sit down with Eric Johnston, the stepson of original builder Bob Johnston as he tells us his side of the story!

    I'm just glad I was able to meet Roth in the 1980s when he came to Vancouver, B'C. Got him to autograph my Outlaw and Mother's Worry model kits, also a Rat Fink cartoon which I bought. Couldn't afford one of his shirts, though for $25. Probably worth a lot more now. He appeared to be a real hippie type artist to me and poked a little fun at me when I told him I was called a fink in school when I was bullied so badly. I guess I should have known he wouldn't understand my bad old days.

    Great little car. I worked on it for almost five years in my neighbors home ( Jack Lavoy) in Alhambra on Raymond street. On the picture you see six carburetors but we only had the center two actually operational.

      @MADFABRICATORSTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and that’s awesome! I’m in contact with Chris Lavoy and he came out and saw mine and loved it. Yes I knew about the two carbs.. I noticed it in the early photos you can see the two carbs dirty and discolored (before chrome) :)

    Interesting to see/read and hear all the conflicting info. ‘57 or ‘58 sbc, “Roth bought it in boxes” vs drove it straight to Revell. Narrowed T frame vs ‘32 rails. White interior with contrasting maroon paint. I know the magazines just assume and that there were 3 versions plus Roth’s mods so I’m sure it’s all lost in the mix. The bought in boxes is a little self aggrandizing though of Roth.

    • @MADFABRICATORSTV
      @MADFABRICATORSTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s crazy over time how it got a little mixed up.. I never heard the Roth bought it in boxes rumor?? Hah

      @836dmar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MADFABRICATORSTV yeah I paused one of the articles in the video and read about the boxes. I also saw it “rumored” while reading on another site just yesterday. Keep it up!
