    Blown head gasket will essentially steam clean the dome of the piston which would explain why one piston had no carbon. Nice score on the motor.

    At least a new cam/lifters and oil pump.
    Exciting build, following every stage eagerly.

      The more I dug into it the better it became.. hah the cam and lifters are super nice as well.. It was in a boat so it wasn't like it ran a bunch maybe couple hours here and there on a lake.. so i'm not going to spend any time or money on it.. I'll run it till it breaks then get it rebuilt :D haha THanks for watching!

    Hello. I picked up a 350, chrome pan nice valve covers. Told it was a runner. Pulled the pan and it was full of sludge. So a rebuild is on the cards. Keep at it love it so far. Tim

    Did you remove the breather for the overdraft tube ? I didn't see it in the video

    • @MADFABRICATORSTV
      @MADFABRICATORSTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not remove the breather tube it didn’t come with one.. it came with legs a small possibly aftermarket breather in its place?

    • @stephanstory3995
      @stephanstory3995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should be small can like breather that goes in the valley under the intake it sticks in that vertical hole by the distributor hole . There is one bolt hole that holds it to the block . If it's not there oil with blow out the draft tube ! BAD !

      Still might do that the engine hasn’t been assembled yet still need to add all the gaskets including the head gasket as well..

  • @kevincraw5142
    @kevincraw5142 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great score on that motor, but I'd strongly recommend while it's on the stand, pop the main caps and rod ends to at least eyeball the bearings. Maybe even plasti-guage them while you're there. Coolant can cut up bearings real quick. (I dig the idea of not spending more than you have to, but might save you some hassle later ;)) Loving the series- continued good luck!

  • @Kuztomshop

    If you look hard enough through the Fel-Pro catalog, you will find a rubber oil pan gasket (they're blue). SOOOO much better than replacing the cork. They also have rubber valvecover gaskets, but with the aluminum 'vette covers, cork may not be a big deal. Just don't over-torque either gasket or you'll have a slow, annoying leak.

    It's not a Corvette engine. Corvettes have adjustable rockers and solid tappets.

    • @MADFABRICATORSTV
      @MADFABRICATORSTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to the numbers on the block I searched and came up 1957 283 corvette on several pages and GM codes..
      Like:
      The casting date of G17 translates to July 1, 1957. Since the casting date ends in 7 (and not 57), that makes it a Flint built engine----------which is where Corvette engines were built. Another plus.
      The stamped F703GC translates to Flint, July 3 (I would have to look up the GC, but I'm sure that's a pass car code) ASSEMBLY date. So, this would be a correct 283 for any Corvette built mid-July through the end of 57 production.
      Maybe it is maybe it isn’t but I’m leaning to it is..
