Good Points. A few other thoughts...
    1. There's no biblical evidence to indicate that Abram's "tithe" was systematic per God's requirement. However, there's other historical evidence that it was the custom of the land to submit 10% of the spoils of war to the ruler(s) of that land after a battle (like a tax). Melchizedek was the King of Salem. Although it's reasonable to assume Abram's gift was an honorarium of sorts, it's questionable how much emphasis can be placed on his gift since Abram ended up giving the remaining portions away to others as well.
    2. There's no biblical evidence Jacob ever actually submitted a tithe. He simply made a contingent offer to do so IF God provided for him as he specified. This serves as credible evidence that God did not require a tithe at this point or prior.
    3. There were actually 4 tithes under Mosaic Law and every tithe deliverable had to be a consumable item such as produce or livestock from within Israel. The Levitical tithe (annual), the tithe of the Levitical tithe that went to the Levitical Priests, the poor tithe (every three years), and the tithe of the festival (annual). All tithe deliverables were to be consumed by the recipient and/or the tither. None of it was received as money.
    4. Biblical, systematic tithing was not purposed for evangelism. It was purposed to support the Levitical Government, the atonement system at that time, for the poor, and to be consumed at the festival.
    5. Biblical, systematic tithing was facilitated through ceremonial and civil ordinances that required tithe submissions. So biblical, systematic tithes cannot be considered gifts or a form of "giving". The ordinances that facilitated tithing under Mosaic Law are now obsolete.
We are free to give as we are able and as we are convicted to do so, money or otherwise, but we are not biblically bound to pay money to a religious institution or anywhere else. Blessings in your giving.

Thanks brother🙏🙌, im a bit disappointed to see this message being preached without ALL of the context being explained and understood !
Amazing how christians can take old testament principles (that were not even ordained by God nor were they acknowledged by the new testament apostles) and say it applies to our New testament Life

    • @sabremlarei3873
      @sabremlarei3873 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Furthermore we preach that he is a God of more then enough, yet the bible in multiple instances preach otherwise,
One example of the apostles lifestyle could also be
      1 corinthians 4:11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
God does not care about our money, but he does care about our Self control/Greed, because this is what feeds our soul,
He cares about us making it to heaven, THAT IS ALL
Sadly This message was out of context,

      Loved this thread of comments.
IMO Best part of this sermon was from 19:19 to 20:00, those 41 seconds were gold. In essence most of the giving that Jesus challenged for disciples to make did not go to ministry, it went to the poor. He (Jesus) didn’t try to enrich His ministry, He tried to enrich their spiritual experience by making them into Disciples.
I once heard it said that Christlike Love for the one you are with is a key to discipleship, I took that to mean taking the time to actually love and care for the people God puts all around me first, be that through time spent with them, listening, encouraging, praying for them, or as prompted financially aiding them.
I have been guilty of giving just to “check the tithing box” or seeking out a far away cause for a person in need when I am neglecting my next door neighbor or coworker who may be spiritually, emotionally, or even at times financially bankrupt. I still have a long way to go, but pray The Lord Jesus will fill me with His Grace lead me along to becoming a true disciple of His in my heart however He wants that to show up in life as He has already purchased me 100% through His precious blood and perfect life He freely gave for me a sinner, Praise God.

Tithing has become prideful and condemning thing in the church. Really really look at the concept of tithing in the church today. It's a "Look at me.. I tithed.. I did my good deed before the Lord.. I'm not cursed with a curse!!".... Now, tell me about the little widow and the only mite she had to give??.. She gave out of obedience, sacrifice, willingness, and a cheerful heart!!... Did God curse her? No! Giving our best and out of sacifice changes us!!

Concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is, indeed, not the full counsel of God. It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider.
-- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21-23). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever serve in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites.
-- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple.
-- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the scriptures that speak to these issues. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures.
    Four biblical truths, regarding tithing:
    (1) There is no scripture that authorizes anyone but a Levite to receive tithes.
    (2) There is no scripture that authorizes a pastor to receive tithes.
    (3) There is no scripture that requires a Gentile to tithe.
    (4) There is no scripture that requires the church to tithe.

I will save you the trouble of listening to all this. The answer is NO. Everything belongs to God. We are just caretakers. Simply give as the Spirit leads you. Most of the time it will not be to an organization, it will be to those around you. I use this principal. Family first. Loved ones next. Community after that. Organizations last. All are important but most churches use the reverse order.

That’s the one thing I don’t like about churches when they REQUIRE you to tithe in order to be a member, or guilt people into giving to the church. I give to homeless people or backslidden friends or just people in need more than I give to my church (financially anyway, I give a huge part of my heart and time to the church) and I think God is ok with that.

Malachi 3 - what the whole chapter expresses - is important - it has a lot of prophetic wording. It's interesting, that it is not uncommon for people to refer to the Old Testament regarding the prophetic and in support of that prophetic message but then when it comes to tithing and offering, some have chosen to see it as Old Testament and dismissed it for a time. I even did so for a time, until God helped me to realize better. But, do they really think it's not important or is it just more fleshly convenient for them to contribute what is supposed to be the tithe, to a more fleshly comfortable lifestyle - paying for fleshly wants instead of what they could be satisfied with after submitting the tithe and offering

    • @markb7067
      @markb7067 ปีที่แล้ว +1

He didn't. The narrative in the book of Malachi was confined within Israel and further narrowed towards the Levitical Priests. Biblical, systematic tithing had nothing to do with paying 10% of earned wages to a religious institution.

I'm careful to tithe His tithe to ministries that are not afraid to preach against sexual sin and perversion, etc. and yes I studied it even in Greek and Hebrew. Jesus even said to the leaders they should have excercized compassion and mercy, while continuing to tithe.

Amanda you're right that where we read that is in what we call the new testament but Jesus was speaking to people in that time under the old covenant who were required to tithe.
If you tithe to be in God's favour, then you're trusting in, believing in, your tithe .... you're not fully trusting in Jesus ..... trusting in Jesus is how we truly come onto God's favour .... then we can truly give freely because we trust in our Father in heaven looking after us.
With love sis .... God forgive us and we come into His love through Jesus only. If we think we also have to tithe then we actually stop ourselves from being under grace ..... we've gone back to law.

Tithing was already emphasized in the Old Testament. It was mentioned also in the New Testament as giving. Jesus commanded Peter to feed the sheep or God's people and this commandment means work. There is no God's work in this planet except to share the Gospel to the lost world. And this is where the idea of church was born. Most churches are led by a pastor. Sadly, more pastors are engaged in prosperity gospel: luxurious lifestyle, acquiring more lands and constructing big buildings, which are very expensive to maintain, rather than sending more missionaries to different parts of the world to find the lost sheeps. This way, churches are scrambling for financial resources resorting to extorsion from members in the form of tithes and offerings.

Let's get something straight, the Bible says only 1/3 of the Israelites were required to give a tithe, and it was a Food Tithe, not a money tithe to feed the priests. 2/3 of Israel was exempt of giving. It really helps when you read and study the Bible. They gave back then because they were required to, but in the New Testament under the New Covenant there is no giving to the Tabernacle because it was done away with by our Lord God. See Hebrews 8:13 The old covenant was done away with because it was old and obsolete and outdated. The New Covenant is Grace and that's all Paul spoke about.
Speaking of Paul, Paul said in 2 Corinthians 2:17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. When Jesus sent out the 12 He said in Matt 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. No where in scripture did Jesus, the Disciples or Apostles ever pass an offering plate and then keep the money for themselves. These pastors and tv preachers of today do the opposite of what the Bible says by using God to get gain. They would rather sit on their rearends and let people bring them free money every week, than get out in the public and work with their hands like Paul said he did to make his living.
No where in the New Testament did Jesus, the Disciples and Apostles ever teach to build a building and call it a church, nor did they teach to hold elections for a pastor for said church, nor did they teach to pass an offering plate and keep the money to pay for the building and the pastor, nor did they teach and practice a money tithe system EVER!
Jesus, the Disciples and Apostles warned us again, and again, and again that in the last days many false teachers would come and make merchandise of the people, and that's exactly what the wolves are doing today. The pastors and tv preachers are making big money off the people all in the name of our Lord God.
I've been a pastor for many years and NEVER received a dime for telling people about Jesus. Shame on these people that won't do what the Bible teaches. People, think about this, especially all you pastors; you mean to tell me you won't share Jesus with someone unless they pay you? When you talk to someone about Jesus, do you hold out your hand afterward and say now you owe me, GIVE? Ok, let me get this straight, Jesus gave His life in payment for our sins, to give us freedom and eternal life, while you pastors and tv preachers are collecting money and accepting payment for something you didn't do? WOW!!!

Tithing is a principal, and it did not die in the Old Testament. The difference is it is not a requirement nor will it bring a curse if you don’t. On the other hand it may feel like a curse because you missed the blessing in it. That’s why when Jesus was asked about it He simply said “You should tithe”. Tithing is the greatest opportunity to live under God’s open Heaven of blessings and the only time God says “Prove Me”! Or in other words, “Come on, put me to the test on this” (Malachi 3:10-12). Well I can testify of the many times I have found myself in a situation where I was out of solutions and had to run to the Father and declare back to Him what He gave me permission to prove Him on - “Father, I am a tither and a giver and in doing so your word says YOU will rebuke the devourer for my sake. Therefore my finances, my health, my home, my wealth (etc.) will NOT be devoured, and blessings are pouring through the windows of Heaven that I stand ready to receive and bless others with the overflow.” I tell you EVERY single time that I have proven Him, His word has NEVER returned void. So instead of worrying about robbing God, just don’t let the enemy rob you of this powerful principle that God still honors today. Beloveds, Tithing will bless your life 🙏🏽😇❣️

Hi their my dear sister, I just want to clear up the issue that Jesus supposedly told us to continue tithing now in the NT. Matt. 23:23 and Luke. 11:42 are scriptures the prosperity preachers and teachers love to use out of context. Jesus was rebuking the hypocrisy of of the Pharisees. They used paying their tithes (note: they payed their tithe with spices, farm produce and NOT MONEY!!!! why?) to quiten their conscience for not living as they aught to, the Lord set them straight for trying to hide behind their tithing rather than living a holy life. Why is the using of these scriptures out of context? Because during the time Jesus spoke to the Pharisees they were still under the Mosaic law of the Old Covernant of the OT and it was their duty to pay their farm produce "tithes". The NT began with Christ's resurrection. See what l mean, taken out of context? These are just two scriptures the "tithe" promoters love to twist to their advantage, they have a string of scriptures they use to "blind side" the masses.
Now that we understand that Jesus did not order the NT believers to "tithe", not one of the Lord's disciples or the Apostles or any other follower of Jesus ever advocated the "tithe" in the NT. l find that rather strange after the all the billions have been made off the poor, ignorant and vulnerable folk, it is heart breaking.
Here is another thing to ponder. Up until 700 years ad. the early church never "tithed", rather they gave from their hearts, not under compulsion but rather out of the motive of love.
700ad. the Roman Catholic church and discovered the financial aid benefit of up dating and changing the mediun of the "tithe" to money. They soon made the "tithe" compulsory. Anyone who never payed their "tithe" was anathema, kicked of the RCC and sent to hell.
The Protestant churches soon caught the gravy train. The rest is history.
So you see my sister the WHOLE NT TITHING is based on lies, extortion, fear, guilt and false promises.
I certainly don't want you to stop giving to the Lord's work. But please don't give it because you you HAVE TO but, rather out of your love for the Lord according to what the Lord lays on your heart.
The word TITHING carries with it a stigma of the Mosaic law, fear, guilt and curse from from the OT. We are no longer under the OT and the 613 laws, praise God we are under the Lord's marvelous GRACE.

There is no mention of tithing being paid by the Saints in the New Testament because they gave MUCH more than a tenth (see Acts 2:44) and had all things in common, i.e., they sold ALL they had and gave it to the church. No where does it say that the principal of tithing is no longer in effect. It always has been. But - the ONLY way you can know for sure is to do what God challenged in Malachi and “Test Me”, saith the Lord - and see if He won’t rebuke the devourer of your health, finances, marriage, ministry, etc. He has come through for me too many times with His promise when there was no way out, and opened the windows of Heaven over me and supernaturally blessed me to the overflow. Now of course, it’s not a salvation requirement, so to each his own. But you couldn’t pay me “not” to tithe! It wasn’t just under the law, it was and is a promise and a principal. Shalom.

Jesus was the end of the law… BECAUSE he fulfilled it! HOW????
    By LOVE!
Romans 13 says the law therefore is fulfilled by love.
So…. The early church became established in love…whether it was in giving, helping, sharing, sacrificing, etc.
Christians, therefore, are to become so rich in God’s LOVE ❤️, that they give…NOT because it’s a rule--but because the Love of God has been shed abroad in their hearts 🥰!!
The apostles asked the people to share with each other out of compassion. Whether it was helping the ministers or the congregation..
God’s people are becoming like Christ Jesus being transformed out of old selfish ways and into the image of Christ- dead to selfishness. Full of love! If we surrender!
Jesus said, “ I am the true Vine, and you are the branches (IF) you stay abiding in me.” True giving isn’t a rule that’s followed… it’s a condition of the heart! Where those who have Jesus really living in them DESIRE to give and help others, because they’re connected to the Living Vine, Christ, himself. Who is Love in Action! The entire reason Ananias and Saphira were struck dead was because they were acting like giving was being forced on them, which was a lie, so they lied about the amount they made on the sell of their house… Apostle Peter clearly said why’d you lie-after all, it was [in your power] ( meaning your choice) whether to sell it or not and give. Nothing was being forced! No rules in giving! It was to be done with love from the heart as free will. God wasn’t about to let the beginning of the New Testament church start out with that lie! Thank God! God said our faith is totally wrapped up in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, his example of sacrificial love, his inner workings of compassion in our hearts, and his inner power to change our hearts and desires through his goodness towards us.
New Creatures in Christ being born again in him. We give, whether to preachers, other believers, or whomever only because of true Godly love! If we don’t give, then we need to draw closer to the living Vine and get our hearts and our minds United with Jesus, our gigantic loving Savior who gave up everything for us because he loves us that much, so his kind of love will rub off on us. Then giving will become a joyful act, and not just some rule people follow. That’s God’s perfect will. Shockingly, Apostle Paul didn’t even ask for money, because he didn’t want to take the chance on the gospel being evil spoken of. So he worked hard, and trusted God to supply his needs. Sure enough.. loving Christians gave to him at times, though he never asked. Yep! God is good!
