- Ngl I still don't know what to title this video. Its almost a what university is like video?
Its v difficult to compare marks as they differ from unis, courses, and units so don't roast me lol. Yay for improvement though :) I hope this video was fun! I deleted heaps I wasn't tryna make a movie. I also deleted like 194801928 so's and 'um's.
Leave a comment if you have a question :) (keep in mind I am a domestic student)

wow we love an academic queen in this household
Can you do a dorm/apt tour and how you chose your place?? Whether it's on campus, or off? How costs affected it and other facilities too? Thank you it'd be a lot of help! :)
congrats cutie, you killed it!!
Mateeha Cheema thanks material!! 🥰
Awesome results but LOL Future of Business rip lots of people I know HATE that unit. At least with the stats it's challenging content. Btw if you don't mind me asking, what was Digital Influence Through Social Media like because I was gonna take it but I'm not sure and the unit outline in the handbook is so vague. What did you learn about and what were the assignments like? Did you enjoy it?
Hey Rachel! Loved the video, really helpful! I received a scholarship for Sydney Uni and Western Sydney Uni and am having a hard time deciding which one to go to - I live in the West and WSU is more convenient but Sydney is appealing for its reputation and 'culture'. My biggest fear for Sydney is that the requirement is that I maintain a distinction mark >75 every semester and if I can't, I lose the scholarship. I got Dux for my school and have a good work ethic, do you think it is possible to achieve a mark between like 78-80 and how many hours do you go to uni as well as the hours spent studying? Thanks heaps Lance
Yes..that is the standard for usyd..10years ago when i schooled in usyd, the std already in place. A friend of mine couldnt maintain her mark and transferred to uni western syd
@@hw.a5849 Thanks for the help, I'm really torn between the two - Western is closer (less public transport:)), a slightly more comprehensive degree and apparently more practical and flexible, but I do like Sydney for its reputation, quality degrees and employability! What were your thoughts Rachel?
Hiii Lance! I'm going to assume you're talking about commerce, if not my advice may not be very useful because it's really difficult to compare marks with other courses because unlike hsc, marks are not scaled, and the number/type of classes vary.
I think 75+ is achievable especially if your willing to put in the time and effort, and don't get too complacent.
Commerce students typically go to university 2-3 days, but that kinda depends on if you want to attend lectures (not compulsory and they're recorded so if you live far away that may be something to consider) and what time slots are available. Usually its 4 subjects/units per semester with lectures and tutorials (2 hours and 1 hour respectively, or 1.5 hours and 1.5 hours) so it's not as many hours as sciency courses with practicals and labs.
I don't know how many hours I study, but studying is mainly taking notes (like hsc but more efficient and up to date lol) and studying smart (not that i've fully achieved that) like time management, prioritising tasks with higher weighting, and making sure you get all the 'free' marks.
Sorry for the mega long reply. I hope this answers some of your questions and helps with your decision. Good luck!!!
@@RachelLin3 Thanks heaps, appreciate it!!
yaaay can't wait for uni now thanks for sharing senpai
Hi Rachel,
1. If I have never taken calculus, business or economics classes in high school, will I be able to catch up if I take commerce at uni? The only related Ap i took was Ap stats...
I got a place for commerce/adv studies at usyd but I don't know if I should take it because I'm not sure I am suited for the course since I am also not too fond of math and I'm not a very analytical person...
What kind of person do you think commerce is suited for?
2. For commerce i am interested in people focused subjects like marketing/ Human resources/ management... I am also interested in design (visual communication design) and advertising/ public relations... which is kind of marketing related....?
3. Does comm/ adv studies kind of overlap some of the interests I stated? I thought for advanced studies I could pick other subjects like like design to supplement my degree.... Also for advanced studies do you only study your second major during the 4th year?
Your advice would be really helpful, thanks. (Im actually in a hurry and kinda panicking cuz i have to decide before in a month before uni starts this feb 2020 😅...... )
suzi3352 hii!! There is some maths involved but how much depends on what majors you choose. I’m working on a q&a video now and i address this question.
It sounds like com/adv majoring in marketing and design suits your interests! This is a popularish combo too
You do both majors simultaneously through the 4 years and other electives as well
Hope this helps!! All the best 😊
@@RachelLin3 I see, thanks! :)
@@RachelLin3 why did you choose USYD instead of UNSW, etc other unis instead? is the course more theory or practical? I heard from my friends that some USYD teachers in bcom are irresponsible, not good..? Is that true? thxxx
Amazingly explained and can u plzz tell me how is the first yr of com? Is it hard? Too hard? Too stressful? Too much content? Plzz
And also is it too much maths? Essays? Statistics? Graphs? Assignments or exam in da first yr?
I can't really answer in detail because there are a lot of variables like different units/majors and lecturers. There is a fair bit of maths in com (BUSS1020/statistics is a first year unit everyone in com has to do and it gets pretty hard), but the maths isn't too crazy (and if anything, they teach you how to do it). In general, many assignments require extended responses of some sort, and most units have a mix of assignments and exams.
I don't know how hard/stressful commerce is compared to other degrees but it's okay. Reminds me of the hsc a little.
good job ratchel !
Thanks for the tips!!
What a year! Congrats on the wam;))
You need an 85 and above for an HD WAM at Sydney Uni.
But getting a distinction WAM is great. Good job!
How’s the OLE? I’ve chosen to do it next sem but not sure about it..
01tiff01 if you have a group with creative people it’s a pretty good ole
What’s the math like for commerce at USYD? ; good stuff btw !! 🤩
LATU thanks!! Theres a stats unit which everyone doing com has to do and the first half is similar to high school stats content. Ive also done an economics type unit where u need to find derivatives and equations of lines. And in finance so far we’ve just subbed numbers in equations 🙂
Are you considering Master of Commerce after this? Do you think it has scope in Australia?
i wish i could get a high distinction in architecture this coming sem in usyd lol
Hi
I have recently applied to University of Sydney.
If u r aware, can u pls tell me if a student(applicant) can get both credit exemption and scholarship there ?
Or
If only 1 of them is granted to a student(applicant) ?
Hi Rachel thanks for this video! I am doing commerce at Usyd this year and I am a bit nervous regarding the first year core unit Quantitative Business Analysis. I did not do maths in year 11 and 12 and have very limited knowledge of maths. Will I be able to get at least a credit or higher in this unit? The formulas seem crazy hard and I had a search on google and a lot of students have said it is extremely hard and involves a lot of maths. Would the maths be too hard for someone like me who hasn’t done any maths in year 11 and 12?
Avi K you might need to put more time into it than ur other subjects but credit is doable 👍🏼 just keep up to date (or at most like one week behind) and youll do fine. The first few weeks are like year 10 maths or very simple maths. But the last few weeks are super ew And the finals were really hard for me :(
Best of luck 🌟
Rachel Lin thank you so much for your reply!! I really hope the maths won’t be too hard and I will try to keep up to date with all the work for that unit. I really hope I do well in this degree and that unit. You have done extremely well and congratulations on your high achievement and all the best for the future! 😊
