I was a Sr. fan and had been for years, but when Dale Jr flipped at Daytona in his first race in the #3 Busch car and he came out of the care-center and said "We still have a Championship to win" and he immediately became my driver in the Busch series. I was still a huge Sr fan, but Jr was kicking ass in the Busch series and winning those 2 championships made it easy because he was winning more than Sr at the time.
Texas was my "home" track and in 2000, I had already bought a Dale Jr Bud jacket and there were already a hell of a lot of #8 Budweiser fans all over the place by then and that was only after a few races in 99 and six races into the season. He stomped the field that day and he had a huge lead at the end and a hell of a lot of fans were on their feet cheering for him every time he came by. To this day, that was my favorite memory of Jr winning a race that I attended and maybe ever (and I was in Daytona for Jr winning his first 500 and Talladega at some point) The 01 Pepsi 400 was pretty damned cool too though.

Second was not an option? Did he ever even win a championship? He was never consistent and didn't win a ton. He was above average but was no where near the talent of the greats of his era or his father. I love Jr. all around but that's the truth.
