This is proof that by code, commercial elevators are required to be capable of staying suspended by only one suspension rope. If the governor cable hadn’t been cut also, the cab would have stopped on its “safeties” (Wedge-brakes). This is a great video!
elevators are very safe. they cut all the cables because they were going to demolish the building and cables should be cut before that so nothing crashes when they take the building down. Elevators are safer than driving a car and even riding in a train or an air plane.
If you cut the governor cables there is no safety. And, new ones are assembled in place. The safe way to get the elevator down is to send the car down manually, unbolt the cables, and send the counterweight down with a hoist rope.
all floors where secured, the flats where empty, the terrain was closed for public, what more safety can you get?the only open door was on the filmed floor.
I'm wondering. If this building was supposed to be demolished, why bother blowing the elevators separately? Wouldn't the wrecking ball/bombs/whatever would be used to take down the building do that anyway?
the light was not burning, it was reflecting daylight , no power what so ever was on at the time of demolition, for breaking down the building, the contractor wanted both the elevator and the counterweight in the pit.
I think it's amazing that theres soo many safety systems in elevators. They are numerous! For example. The hoist ropes are rated at strength strong enough to hold the elevator car and counterweight on their own! (single strand/rope)
+James Rocky Actually, it is extremely rare because an elevator has 6 cables + Governer so if 5 sapped they you would still be ok as 1 rope must be able to support the car. In the unlikely event that say the brake released you would go up because the counterweight is heavier then the car (in most cases) or if the elevator is at full capacity you would go down but no matter wich direction you go there is a fully mechanical device called a governor which in the event of an Overspeed either up or down the governor will stop the elevator. The governor works through centrifugal force where if it spins to fast a lever will flip out and grab teeth stopping the lift. The only way you will plummet to your death is if all the equipment falls or all the ropes break.
nothing on this video is fake or manipulated, this was just a day at work, not that this was a common job, all of the safety parts where taken away, so we where sure that the counterweight and cabin would come down completely.
Is that how all elevators are taken down? Because when it passed by I saw the light inside, which made me think that you were just pranking around. I'm not pointing fingers or anything, just curious :P!
The scene is: You have a building with an elevator in it ready for demolition, some guys who knows their elevators with a bit of spare time to disengage a multitude of failsafes and finally a torch or a wirecutter. The thing to notice is that all lift cars have a counterweight and this is heavier than the empty car. So, the counterweight was also taken out of the equation here before the final wire were cut in the engine room. Hence the car has nowhere to go but down. Basically its a bunch of guys being allowed to properly sabotage an elevator before the building is demolished.

This is a great video!
this is the fastests elevator i ever seen
neromana2 LOOOOOOL
neromana2 It probally is a new world record
guanzo ro po
neromana2 1:38
GD IRozaRI s
does anyone now have fears for elevators?
IAM WILDDAWG thats why i take the stairs XD
Well now I do. XD
Nope.
Vietnam elevator flashbacks
Elevators have a self-destruct function ,if activated it will cut alll the cables
Spoiler:
No they don't just wanna scare ya guys ;)
Who in 2024 ?
👇
1:34 damm that was faaast lol
@Sharkie626 the chain is for compensating the weight of the cables, they are not on elevators with a few floors

Curious, what did they use to cut those cables?
all floors where secured, the flats where empty, the terrain was closed for public, what more safety can you get?the only open door was on the filmed floor.
talk about tower of terror
Was all the safety stuff disconnected? like the brakes, and govroner?
"cuts the final cable" Lift Gowing Down
*Elevator voice announcer* " This lift will be stopping at........ oh shit" lol
I'm wondering. If this building was supposed to be demolished, why bother blowing the elevators separately? Wouldn't the wrecking ball/bombs/whatever would be used to take down the building do that anyway?

@Liftdragonuk
The speed limiter was disconected from emrgency brakes by cut the two small cables on right side from emrgency brakes
@hen3k6 ahh, cool deal. oh also, do elevators have chains like that underneath them or was that only for the demolition?
I think it's amazing that theres soo many safety systems in elevators. They are numerous! For example. The hoist ropes are rated at strength strong enough to hold the elevator car and counterweight on their own! (single strand/rope)
You still alive?
@@Morgan527 yep :)
@mike4ty4 for the safety of the demolisch team the elevators need to be at the ground floor, as well as the counterweight as the cabin
nou is ie stuk!!!!
Guess who has a fear of elevators now
@NukeAttackWarnings we had a hydrolic cutter to cut the cables, in the engineroom we did cut the cables as you can see one by one.
@cakebandit0o he did cut the cable very near to the tractionwheel, so there was almost no whipping
that was soooo epic lmao
@bobsterdude1 this is real, nothing fake about it, older elevatorwalls where made of wood and where placed in steel profiles
guys elevators are not safe because they can stuck between floors or they can stop and fall down
+James Rocky Actually, it is extremely rare because an elevator has 6 cables + Governer so if 5 sapped they you would still be ok as 1 rope must be able to support the car. ALL elevators have safety brakes, safety kables and safety locks. There are only 4 lifts accidentely fallen down in HISTORY
They rarely fall down. Elevators have safety devices that prevent the elevator from falling.
nothing on this video is fake or manipulated, this was just a day at work, not that this was a common job, all of the safety parts where taken away, so we where sure that the counterweight and cabin would come down completely.
How'd you cut the cables without standing under the bloody contraption?
Crushed by force?
@Validole the engineroom is above the hoistway, so nobody was unther the elevator
If that's how they get rid of old lifts, then how do they get new ones in?
GOING DOWN... GROUND FLOOR... BING BONG... DOORS OPENING... PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE DOOR... HAHAHAHA
oh also, curious, what did the guy at the top say to you both times before you said "yeah"?
1:38 the lift just flew past pritty quick like all i saw was a square box fly past
How do they cut the ropes / what do they use?
Not a modern elevator. Modern ones have more safety than this, all the cables may be broken and it will still hold in the lift shaft.
+Omar Smith False if the motor cables and governor cable snap your fucked
+nickfo1 governor cables don't break, they never carry any load, and you're forgetting about the buffer in the elevator pit.
dragon if they all snap the wedges will go up due to the governor lockup up stoping it
nickfo1 are you talking about a upwards free fall? When elevators uncontrollably go up they don't go very fast.
+dragon no down
But why would one want to destroy such a building in the first place? And why does the elevator have to be at the bottom anyway?
What elevator brand
@DELROYJOHNSON73B There was nothing wrong, the flats had to be demolished, that is why the counterweight as the cabin had to be at the bottem floor
did that elevator still work? before it crashed
Welke flats zijn dat
why you not change your camera to digital? (i know cause camrec glitch at down)
What wrong with that lift?
Why this "procedure"?
@Sharkie626 The tool we used for cutting the cables was a hydraulic cablecutter, and the question was, if it was save to cut.
We disabled the safetybreak so this could happen.
hmm i wonder what floor 0 does.....
Yhowbyjytub310 smash at gound
MICHAELTHEHONEY Lam Really...
no, it was empty, as you could see when the elevator passed the floor. :-)
@1liftman it was an idea to do it this way, just for fun and fun it was :-)
@vankka1 no fake video, just fun in our work :-)
I wouldn't have done that with ANY doors open. Sh*t whips around in funny ways sometimes.
Must've been a dover.
Is that how all elevators are taken down? Because when it passed by I saw the light inside, which made me think that you were just pranking around. I'm not pointing fingers or anything, just curious :P!
Holy s**t man that was cool
looks like the lights were still on in the cab
I bet this is Ann old Schindler
i like the part where there is a bathroom floor
I hope that the emergency brake didn't work just because you disactivated it!
*THIS LIFT IS GOING DOWN*
Couldn't you have sent it to the bottom then cut it?
Next generation express lifts
If you pause RIGHT At 1:38 you can see inside the cab. :D
and safe it was, we had all floors secured.
Wow it Shoots down to 1st floor and
It crashed on the lift pit
thank you !
@failfan1 yea thts what happened to the elevator from big bang theory
NO SOUND?????
Jonah Cabrera there is sound. Check if your volume was down
No way, but better try dying than dead without trying
damn thats fast
express lift.... and now go to upper floor again hehehe.....
vandalisme / onjuist gebruik 😅😂
and they say jumping can save you in a falling lift. pft.
wath happens??
Excellent
it is still the most savest way to travel
@zomgtehrei that was how we first did it, but this was less boring
when all savety is removed this is possible, this is not possible in holland, when maintenance ans safetyinspections are done in a regular base
omg imagine being in it when the crash happened! SCARY!
KittyFish iT is supposed to crash in the clip.
He did say he was in a rush😏
how did this happen?

at 1:58 you can see the lift buttons
ja hoor, ben nederlander :-)
@queensplazasouth all power was off, from the whole building
the same way, but than backwards :-)
So cool
Because it is more fun.
