- Join me as I walk through the historic London Borough of Fitzrovia (and a little bit of Bloomsbury too!), taking a look at some of the notable buildings, locations and curiosities along the way.
My walk culminates in Doughty Street, and a visit to the Charles Dickens Museum, former home of the renowned Victorian Author.
Thanks for posting; I haven't seen Dickens's house since it's refurbishment! BTW - there is a typo on the date given for Barnaby Rudge.
Aw, thank you for letting me know!
I enjoyed this trip around places I knew well as I worked at the Post Office Tower between 1973 - 1979. The IRA did create a feeling of fear but the great British public just got on with the day, even entering a shop you had your bags searched. There was a 24/7 Security force in and around the tower complex which included buildings on Cleveland Street and Howland Street. The Tower did get damaged due to a bomb but it was not put there by the IRA. It was done by a group of radical individuals who had no connection to the IRA.
Thank you very much for your very insightful comments. And how lucky you were to work in the Post Office Tower (as it will always be known to me) .
