    Actually, the developer of ET was very ambitious. He's basically admitted that if he was wiser, he wouldn't have done so. He did accept the project, and the completion date.

    • @epremier20050
      @epremier20050 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      And let's not overlook the fact that the developer is not entirely at fault as Atari - probably in a vain assumption that E.T. would be a system seller - manufactured more cartridges than 2600s available, which is ultimately the financial reason why the crash of 1983 happened.

    • @Boogie_the_cat
      @Boogie_the_cat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If he was wiser, he wouldn't have done so WHAT?
      You said he was ambitious, but if he was wiser he wouldn't have done so.
      But there is no context as to what "so" is referring to.
      What do you mean he wouldn't have done?
      He wouldn't have made the game? Or he wouldn't have made it so complex?
      Your sentence structure makes the meaning of "so" completely ambiguous, which makes your "actually" (pushing glasses up on nose) attempt as fact correction meaningless.
      You didn't specify what the developer wouldn't have done.
      So you're outing yourself as "that guy" while not actually pointing out a single fact except that the dev was ambitious (which is obvious)
      Please complete your nerd degree by telling all us dunderheads what the dev "wouldn't have done so"

      @@epremier20050well, Atari games had been getting shitty for a number of years. It's not all on e.t. look at how bad the Alien game was. Look at the fact that the two consoles (5600 and 7800) kinda flopped.
      Look at how bad the Atari port of pacman was, and the fact that third party pacman knockoffs actually did a better job of recreating the arcade pacman experience.
      It wasn't all on Atari for making too many e.t. cartridges. As someone who was alive when this happened, I can say that both triple jump and you commenters are taking the simple "let's not do very much research" approach to ascribing reasons for the crash.
      Atari had been fucking up for years before e.t.
      E.t. was simply one more nail in the coffin, albeit a very expensive one.
      I see people constantly harping on triplejump for poor research, but your "correction" proves that you didn't do enough research either.
      Atari had been pulling expensive boners long before e.t. they had been dropping the ball year after year.

    • @AusSP
      @AusSP ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Boogie_the_cat In order to understand, you'd have to watch the video. That would provide sufficient context.
      But in short, the developer was very ambitious, so he accepted an excessively tight schedule - a few days, IIRC. He was not forced into it. He thought himself smarter than he was, as that was indeed far too tight a schedule. As such, he sees working on this project as being foolish in hindsight.

    I’m glad Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600 got a shoutout, however briefly. My earliest gaming memories are of playing that and ET on the 2600 when I was about four and absolutely hating them. Not long after that my grandmother bought us an NES, and the Atari went on to live in a box in our basement until it was destroyed in a flood during the early ‘90s.

    speaking of RoboCop games: Larry Bundy Jr mentioned a RoboCop game for home computers in the 80s (I think it was the Amiga, though I could be wrong). the game itself was considered ahead of its time, but it wouldn't work unless you plugged in this "dongle" that came with the game, in a half-assed attempt to fight piracy. this idea basically ruined the game's sales, and the developers decided not to use that again for any of their future releases.

    The worst movie video game that i've ever played was Toys for the SNES and Sega Genesis. Based on the movie with Robin Williams, you control a character using various toys to disarm traps, obstacles and other deadly hostile toys. More than half the time, you won't know where the hell you'll be going, a majority of the weapons are useless and you'll die quicker than you can figure out how to use a toy to attack back! And then the game over screen where you hear the general guffawing in victory as you read a report of your demise, followed with the general guffawing AGAIN followed by a final score screen all with some dreadful music playing in a loop!

    I thought Narcos: Rise of The Cartels will be on this list.

    I heard the _Constantine_ game was pretty terrible, but it was probably better than most of these!

    Believe it or not there's an even worse (imo) Reservoir Dogs game

    The original Robocop arcade game and its sequel are fantastic. And Alien 3 on the Sega Megadrive & Super Nintendo are also great so I cant agree 100% with this list as they're outright omitted. It's like saying Street Fighter 2 is crap & one of the worst one on one beat 'em ups because the Gameboy Advance version was terrible?
