This film Alien 1979 is a sacred cow as well. This movie is all about using suspense in a survival horror film. Nothing negative to say and nothing I would change. Alien Romulus takes from this film and that's the only gripe I might have about Romulus.
The directors cut is a complete mess due to the cocoon scene having been inserted in the wrong place in the film. The final script and Goldsmith's original score track sequence confirm that the cocoon scene should be immediately after the death of Parker and Lambert and the sound mix of the original outake footage proves that Ripley is cautiously making her way to the self destruct mechanism in a quiet environment when she hears Dallas moaning.
Interesting, I'm assuming he moved the scene further towards the end to make the whole ending more dramatic for 1st time viewers? I didn't find any continuity issues and still enjoyed it but I get your point about the positioning. 👍

The Directors cut uses alternative takes and different scenes, like for example Ripley gets slapped by Lambert in one cut and not in the other.
It was a good slap as well, shame it was cut 😆
