When Julie tears off John's face the special effects for that is insanely good for 1984.

I remember watching this when it first came out, superb series. I did hear that the original author was looking to remake it, would be good with the special effects today. The remake in 2009 was absolute crap

You forgot the most important parts as to why they did and why Julie stood there with a gun fighting off a bigger foe... Like in the beginning of first. It was made that way by Kenneth Jonhson so show the resilience of resistance fighers!

Elias and Benjamin scene when he got shot was a good scene also

Loved this series in the 80s, one of the best! Funny when you watch it now though because an advanced race that travelled the galaxy didn't have any drones, advanced autonomous weapons tracking, AI and so on. Could've taken over from orbit! lol.

I adored these miniseries as a kid (the weekly series not so much!) and while they have retained a lot of their charm (and arguably even more of their relevance) as time has passed there are definitely some aspects of the production that have not aged well. But I maintain that the shot of Julie tearing John's mask off is one of the best practical effects I've ever seen. Every few years I revisit it, expecting it to finally look a bit crap by the latest standards, but after four decades it still works.

V when it came out in 1984 was an excellent reminder of the rise to power of the Nazis in Germany, pre World War Two, in the closing days of the Weimar Republic and how the Nazis demonised the Jews.

The series was an inspiration from the 60s sci fi show the invaders.mike Donovan was like David vincent who knew and uncovered a lot about the Aliens and there intentions and i liked the politics in the shows.

At the beginning when mike and Tony were doing there job who would of thought what was to arrive and the world was to change by fascist ruling lizard visitors.

Martin was a big help to the resistance and struck a good friendship with captain Donovan

Don't fuck with Earth and our superior Teflon tipped 9mm shells.

Notice how the police and government side with the reptiles.

V was the best! The plot and drama reminds us of what is happening in the world today with politics and totalitarian ruling.

Love the sonic booms. Gives a feeling or an audible que just how fast Superman is flying

Mike Donovan & Diana were 2 of the best performances of the 80s.. for separate reasons.. a 3rd mini series showing visitors home world would have been vastly better than the 1 season show.....

That's hilarious you got recognised! I liked this film too and thought the familiarity with Nostromo/Ash/xeno corpse was huge and if they say they werent the same ones we saw before they're lying haha!

There was nothing even approaching the level of creativity of the revolving door transformation. That entire scene (including the brief look at the “new” style phone booth) was just cinematic perfection.

Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh and Christopher Reeve were all excellent as Superman. Cinematic legends the three of them.

One of The dumbest scifi films ever. No logic at all with the characters doing stupid stuff. The Derelict falling out of the sky and Theron running Roadrunner like so it would roll and squish her was just unbelievable...

I concur with your comments , both mini series were very good , very entertaining. I treat the weekly series as a guilty pleasure , yes the quality dropped dramatically ( writing wise & budget wise & the recycled stock footage was tedious ) but it had 'some ' good ideas . It was a shame they lost characters like Caleb, Sancho, Maggie ,even Arthur Dupres who disappeared without explanation.

V was absolutely fantastic. The remake had potential but ended up being a letdown.

I was six years old. The trailers assured us we would believe a man could fly. I did and still do.

Thought the resistance was on a budget...
