I would say that the alien side of the Predalien DNA is responsible for laying eggs. In the comics and novels it states that when there's no Queen present the Xenomorph species can alter the hormonal chemistry to make an egg layer.
Interesting (and scary) I havnt read the novels, that clears up random eggs appearing anywhere! Cheers! 👍
