Insane challenge. Even the mightiest space marines fail their armour saves. Winning is good. But it’s more about rolling the dice and having fun - as you did. Great video. Redemption arc in the next one.
Very true. This one had at least AP -4 😂 but lucky for me I have a feel no pain…That’s a lie I am feeling a lot of pain in my back from all that sitting 🫠 but I didn’t die so that’s a win. Appreciate you dude.
Started out my Warhammer addiction with the same magazines! Marketing 101 from GW - I’m now a grown ass kid with a pile of hobby shame because of those magazines 😂
Liked and subscribed! Great video and super happy to see you not push yourself to some crazy degree just to get it done but aiming to have fun and enjoy it 🎉
Another awesome effort dude! Definitely makes me want to get back into the game again, I miss my old mumakil model, but I'm hoping for a new one with the new models from the War of the Rohirrim
Collected the exact same way all the way over here in australia at the exact same age 12 😂😂 those were some great days. I remember when my local store had the helms deep diorama a year or two later and it was my first time not playing on a green felt mat with books underneath for hills.
Love your models as always your videos are a bright spot of my day. My introduction to miniature wargaming was the White Dwarf magazine featuring the Mines of Moria box set containing the fellowship and a ton of goblins and the coolest troll. Have always loved middle earth strategy battle game and I seriously want to get myself some of the sets. Only problem is I'm 25% into my 40k ork army and still have 3 kill teams to assemble and paint and now I'm being tempted by more awesome stuff that is probably gonna take me forever to finish. Curse you Games Workshop.
Crazy how you feel that’s a failure - I could spend double that time and won’t paint anywhere near that quality 😂 I had those magazines back in the day too - the nostalgia lol Great video and keep up the great work :)
Unfortunately I did not know about the game back when that magazine was out. I started wargaming in 2013. I am looking forward to this box for sure. Love the look of your paint job. Thanks for this video!
Yeah it was a long time ago now. Great memories from those magazines though. Ohh nice. I hope you enjoy it. Keen to see what else they release. Really appreciate that Brian. Really appreciate the support.
I worked at GW during that period. These models hit me right in the feels. I loved painting the old ones because of the scale and the limited detail. They were fun, easy to bang out and so fun to play pretend with :)
I also got my start in the hobby at the age of 12. However, in December 1998 with the starter box for the 3rd edition of Warhammer 40,000. But I also collected the Lord of the Rings magazines and it was an incredibly great time. On the one hand there were these unbelievably great films and at the same time this hobby. A great journey through time and I can completely understand your emotions for this box. Once again a great video. I really enjoy watching your videos in general. Would you like to start a New Year, new Army Challenge in "January" and provide an update on this challenge every week alongside your other videos? 😅
A good video! Think I'll stick with the older models. The change in detail and construction came with the Mirkwood Elf Rangers and the Hunter Orcs (foot and mounted) and I would admit that the "hobby" side I see as an necessary evil that I have to get through to play in tournaments, I liken this to chess I love to play but I do not make the pieces and these figures, to me, are just markers at the end of the day. The first Games Workshop publication I bought was White Dwarf 1, yes I am that 70 year old who still "plays with toy soldiers" and needs help to get up the stairs at Element Games Stockport with an army
Thank you very much. I am glad you liked it. I just want to say that you are one of the coolest people. I aspire to be like you when I am 70. This is such an incredible hobby and I am so honoured you watched my video. Thank you again. I hope you get all the help you need on those stairs.
Those magazines were great. Issue 1 as far as I remember was about €2 and came with a whole sprue of Goblins. I must have bought 3 or 4 copies of that issue 😂 I had already been into Warhammer for a few years at that point but it got a few of my friends into the hobby.
@morewarhammer Times are grim. Hopefully we get the #1 pick. At least you have a nice shiny stadium, our stadium just injures everyone with it's turf field!
@morewarhammer seahawks; watching the violent runs of lynch really grabbed me a few years ago. I spotted your chargers top; loved rivers, but Herbert is great too
The nostalgia is strong in this one. Me and my brother got those magazines shortly after starting 40k. I would genuinely say this wasn't a failure as that many models painted to that degree in only 33 and half ( possibly more) hours is an extradinary achievement.
I started playing 25 years ago, I had that book as well but it got destroyed in a flood around 2006 but my father recently (last week) found a old GW case that I thought was stolen that had about 70% of my lotr army which I'm happy to have returned but it's all very damaged but I might fix it up and see what I've got
I still have some of my Dungeons & Dragons minis I painted in the late 70s. Got back into minis in 2017 with the ASoIaF wargame from CMON. I will say the models turned out well, I really like the Rohirrim cloaks.
Thank you so much! Yeah I really did enjoy it. So cool to see this game system get some love as well. Exciting times for LoTR fans. Thank you for the lovely potaytoe
Man, I can't even get through a box of 10 lads without strongly reconsidering my hobby choices 😅. You've done well mate. Also you can't just drop that you play D&D without telling us race/class at the very least! 😋

Imo It's fine if you don't manage to finish it all - it's a challenge after all, failing is fine and you can do more videos like this and at the end of the year show how many challenges you manged and how many you didn't :D As long as you make it fun it's a win! Quite honestly: Solid paintjob! especially since LotR Minis use true scale which makes them harder to paint! Are the houses also part of the box set? Guys comment! Comments for the algorithm god!

35 hours for 52 models and 2 houses is still an insane feat my dude!! Thats around 40 minutes a model. Probably should have spent the paint time on the 4 models rather than the houses at least for the video haha. For average hobbyist thats easily a 2-3 month project. Hell just building the models or basing everything are weekend projects alone, haha. The most Iv ever done for a box to board challenge, was the Votann launch box and that took me a month to finish. Side note though, I really love the new sculpts GW is providing for Middle Earth. The LotR range is becoming a lot more detailed since coming back into the fray of the TTG scene in 2018 after that weird Hobbit rebranding back in 2012
Did you freehand the shield designs or was that texture on the model? If that's freehand then you are insane and incredible! Edit: I see the texture in the final shots lol. Still looks incredible for the short time you had!
So did you only paint with contrast paint? Jumping back into the hobby after 15+ years away, and figuring out what paint to get has been the most challenging part. I have a set of acrylic game paint and washes in the mail, but I'm finding that a lot of painters are just using the contrast paint. Which I thought was applied to the model after you're done with the base coats
Quick question. I saw this box for the first time a couple of days ago and noted that pretty much none of the Rohirrim are mounted. I am used to the movie portrayal so it seems out of character for this force, any comments about that?
I am so glad you said that too. It’s so strange they didn’t include some cavalry. I assume they don’t make a huge showing in the film? That’s all I could think.
Congrats on having them table-ready that fast! I really like the new models, but I don't quite see the point of multi-part models that strictly combine in a mono-pose way. As for the box-set, I feel, for the price, and considering you're probably only going to start collecting one of the forces in earnest, I would have liked to see a center piece - perhaps some riders - for Rohan, and a something similar, or a monster for the baddies. I used to get those middle earth magazines as a kid, they used to come with a sprue of orcs or warriors of Minas Tirith. Fond memories.
Yeah was so amazing. Back then 24 Rohan warriors on foot did cost 16,99€.
Minas Tirith warrior are some of my favourite models right there. I remember getting them back in 2003 in Australia. Brings me back.
Yes! I remember being able to convince my parents that they were slightly cheaper than the other armies.
