This song has plenty of ties to Utopia, actually. She talks of forming clouds and a celestial nest that grows above, which are both symbols of Utopia, from the floating island seen in the titles track's MV and the album being themed around 'air'. It paints a picture that Vulnicura is an abyss inside a sand pit and that she crawled out of it to reach a floating island. Other then that, the repetition of 'and her daughter' is also present in the track sue me, which serves as a polar opposite to this song as it fits the album; sue me being an angry song in a peaceful album and Quicksand being a peaceful song in a really sad album. Björk's writing is absolutely wonderful
Mouth Mantra + Quicksand are my fave songs of the album, imo this is where the album gets really creative :-) (also I have to mention the devastatingly beautiful Stonemilker...)
i think vulnicura was the first album from Bjork i heard in full and i fell in love upon the first listen. never has been difficult for me to appreciate her work
Define her abyss Show it respect Then a celestial nest Will grow above When I'm broken, I am whole And when I'm whole, I'm broken Our mother's philosophy It feels like quicksand And if she sinks I'm going down with her Locate her black lake The steam from this pit Will form a cloud For her to live on When she's broken, she is whole And when she's whole, she's broken Our mother's philosophy It feels like quicksand And if she sinks I'm going down with her Hackle this darkness Up to the light Where choreographed oxygen Embroiders the air When we're broken we are whole And when we're whole we're broken We are the siblings of the sun Let's step into this beam Every time you give up You take away our future And my continuity and my daughter's And her daughters And her daughters And her daughters
imo easily some of her own best lyrics to date! "our mothers' philosophy, it feels like quicksand and if she sinks I'm going down with her" - beautiful!
My favorite song off of Vulnicura which is in my opinion a hard listen to as a whole. This is the song I connected to more than any of the others. Will have to give the whole cd another listen to soon.
It's definitely an album that doesn't smack you in the face right at first listen, when you first are introduced it may seem like the songs are less directional, if that makes sense. But when you are able to see every layer, everything is beautifully, painfully intentional.
That one has taken me awhile to come around to, but it's got some really excellent tracks. I tend to skip Black Lake, and that picks up the pace on the album quite a bit.
Notget has actually become one of my faves only recently... some of the tracks really take a while to appreciate:) on the other hand, Mouth Mantra and Quicksand were my faves from the beginning
Did you guys went to Bjork Digital ?! Sh*t, the animations of quicksand and the total expirience with this song was outstandig I totally clap on this womam's work She is amazing
Yeah I had the chance in Mexico city, i was actually looking for the visuals of this song (Not vr of course) because they were so amazing, they´re not here buut she uploaded the ones from notget .
this + Mouth Mantra + Stonemilker = my fave songs off Vulnicura! the only track along with Stonemilker Arca didn't work on at all , this is purely Björk - I really love those strings arrangements btw. (EDIT: Arca: "...Quicksand in which I had very little input other than just some opinions and a very small part in the synth sound design for the keyboard part she had written...")
To Matt: I don't have an answer to the question of what happens when you create a universe and need friends and collaborators. All I can say is that I will continue to grow and deepen such that if you or anyone else who gets there fucks up, I have your back.
lol actually Arca didn't produce this track, Bjork sampled Apologies by Spaces, who were also credited as the songwriters of this track, and the string arrangements were done by Bjork herself. This is one of the only 2 tracks off Vulnicura, along with Stonemilker, that Bjork produced all by herself (as far as i know)
The final lyrics are a prelude to Utopia... her preoccupation with the future...

Best song off of "Vulnicura" in my opinion. A great finale to an epic album.

you can't write lyrics more beautiful than that. holy fuck
One of the realest songs ever
Every daughter with a strong bond with their mother gets this song.
are you kidding me? I'm simply amazed, this is so fucking good.
this just feels sadder to listen to after listening to ancestress... i'm so sorry for ur mom bjork, may she rest in peace :(
i think vulnicura was the first album from Bjork i heard in full and i fell in love upon the first listen. never has been difficult for me to appreciate her work
Wow. Actually good tecno. Not just a loop with a 4 chord sequence. Always loved Björk always will.
Define her abyss
Show it respect
Then a celestial nest
Will grow above
When I'm broken, I am whole
And when I'm whole, I'm broken
Our mother's philosophy
It feels like quicksand
And if she sinks
I'm going down with her
Locate her black lake
The steam from this pit
Will form a cloud
For her to live on
When she's broken, she is whole
And when she's whole, she's broken
Our mother's philosophy
It feels like quicksand
And if she sinks
I'm going down with her
Hackle this darkness
Up to the light
Where choreographed oxygen
Embroiders the air
When we're broken we are whole
And when we're whole we're broken
We are the siblings of the sun
Let's step into this beam
Every time you give up
You take away our future
And my continuity and my daughter's
And her daughters
And her daughters
And her daughters
:Where choreographed oxygen

Her lyrics are so creative
Thank you for posting the lyrics. Much appreciated--
I wish she would've made a music video for this song. Favorite song off the album.
its a the most simply programmed song-there is one official video for it( the 360 degree video-the japan one)

This and stonemilker are for me the standouts.
yeah i feel this is pretty disjointed as a whole, not one of her better efforts.
That one has taken me awhile to come around to, but it's got some really excellent tracks. I tend to skip Black Lake, and that picks up the pace on the album quite a bit.
@@victorgonzalez2499 for me this, stonemilker, mouth mantra! tho family and notget is a great duo too (especially vulnicura live version of family)
Interesting abrupt ending. Still getting acquainted to this album. Got Stonemilker, Lionsong, History, and this one down so far.
Trevin Hughes Atom Dance is my absolute favourite, followed by Notget; the layers and excruciatingly raw emotiveness all act in her favour.
Notget has actually become one of my faves only recently... some of the tracks really take a while to appreciate:) on the other hand, Mouth Mantra and Quicksand were my faves from the beginning
woah, this is different for her. I love how she tries so many different things. :3
White Rabbit try listen Pluto, sounds similar
Adrian Cervantes yeah but Pluto sounds more Industrial/Electro
@@BlueWonderPowerMilk They are really different wtf are u talking about
This isn't atypical of her work. Have you heard "Pluto"?
@@BlueWonderPowerMilkthe same song came to my mind as soon as I heard this. Others dispute our claim but whatever.

OMG IT TOOK 2 years for this song to grow in me, and now its simply amazing I LOVE IT SO MUCH
I’ve listened to a lot of Björk songs but for some reason this is (imo) among her very best

Most fav track on the album. Re-listening on Mothers Day 2021 :)
I’ve never heard or read anything that captures inter generational trauma (and how it can heal) better than this
you can also think of the abrupt ending as the nature of the separation itself/new attitude towards dealing with new pain as it comes.
Ufff esta canción + realidad virtual es la experiencia más hermosa que podrás tener.
This song reminds me of something that would be in Final Fantasy XIII! It reminds me of cocoon and just the overall vibe of that game!
very techno sounding, but more with.... Bjork :)
