I remember watching this for the first time when I was 13 and wishing that an actual sonic movie would be a possibility. Now I’m 22 and Sonic movie 2 is coming out this April! I can’t believe how far we’ve gotten! We did it folks!

After I found this years ago I remember being so blown away by how amazing it looked and the idea and even sent it over to sega to hire these fans...of course sega never responded but this deserves so much credit and im still amazed by how well this was done.

MTV's Womb not just fur, he has no gloves, his nose is not the same, his eyes are separated, he has white fur in places (the hands are white too) his shoes aren't the same, his proportions are more human-like, he has blue arms, etc.
MTV's Womb the design isn't that bad, but it could have been way better, while still keeping it more realistic looking. And if it was so hard to make Sonic look like Sonic in a realistic setting then they should have made this movie completely animated in my opinion. It fits better with the character, and Pikachu works better in live action because of his design, and because he's around humans all the time, unlike Sonic.

Wow this was absolutely phenomenal, and it was so beautiful hearing Jaleel White voice the character again!
Who did the voice of Sonic in the first three Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series, which both were produced by DiC and currently own by WildBrain. Kind of strange, they have someone who is already a famous celebrity to be in a fan film, but there have been some fan films that have already famous celebrities, probably reprising their roles they did a long time ago.
Aside from Ryan Drummond and Jason Griffith, Jaleel White was meant to voice Sonic.

I remember watching and rewatching this religiously as a kid... now we’ve gotten not one but 2 official movies and a spin off and third installment in the works. Amazing job guys, it may be rough around the edges but for what it is, it still holds up
The graphics and acting aren't perfect, but they're surprisingly good for a fan project. And I think that's one of the best designs for a realistic Sonic. I personally would love to see a sequel to this.

Honestly,I think the design in this short film would've worked fine if it wasn't in live action. The main problem is that wierd fur effect, which I think they added to try and make it fit the live action environment.
Overall solid design, only issue was they had a hard time keeping proper proportions, but that is more technical animation issue than core design.

All these people saying "Sonic's voice is crap" or "sonic's voice is grating"....I want to cry. It's Jaleel White, guys! For a generation he WAS the voice of sonic. The old cartoons! Back in the day!
That said, because this seems like it's doing a more Sonic Adventure consistency it would have been nice to get Ryan Drummund, as he ties in with the more serious tone those games and this short film tried.
There's also a lot of people putting it down...do you guys have any idea what it's like to make a film, especially on a short budget? It's a fan film, a labor of love by the many people in it.That said, the sonic model is a little odd and could be easily fixed. Still, whenever a 3d sonic is made to look realistic even SEGA does odd things with his fur/quills. As someone with a real live hedgehog, though, I think the model could have been improved with a more heart shape to the quills coming from fur (naturally, hedgehogs have this), a smaller mouth, and better lighting rendering.

I never really said he was a GREAT voice actor. Man, the old cartoons were pretty objectively bad. But come on, these are SONIC fans! We're blinded by pure nostalgia! At least us older ones. I know I am.
As far as his voice fitting sonic... Back when Jaleel white voiced Sonic, his portrayal in the US was very different than it was now. Sonic SatAm came on after the release of Sonic 2 and around that time there was very little story to the game. Sonic was a 'hog with 'tude. That's kind of all anyone had to go on -- and "tude" meant different things in the US and Europe than Japan. So he was as 90's as humanly possible! Jaleel White did a lovely job as a saturday morning cartoon hero and making a voice that was really fun and memorable. "I'm Waaaaiiiting!".
Yeah, if you never grew up back then it lacks all context and nostalgia content. It doesn't really make sense. Cartoons now a days have entirely different direction with voice acting. Sonic himself has changed GREATLY, and each voice actor that portrayed him as he went on seems to shape his personality or fit whatever personality the writers have made for him.
Anyways, what I was mainly trying to say was not that Jaleel White was good or bad, but just that everyone seemed kind of ignorant of who it was in the first place. Broke my heart, that's all. You just gotta pay him respect as the voice of Sonic for a generation of fans. Everyone kind of has their own "Sonic" that's shaped by whoever voiced him at the time. me, I was inbetween, so I got both Jaleel and Drummund as MY Sonic.

How do you trash talk a fan film with no buget, license, and absolutely free? This is more than we got from sega and I'm happy with it the way it is. Yes it can be better but for a low buget short film this is awesome. The original sonic voice was awesome. Yes, they had a video about Doug "auditioning" for Robotnik but he never actually played him in the film. He only made a very brief cameo. Which was pointless. I love Doug, but there's no point of him being there if he's not gonna do anything. And I'm sure it would've cost less money to just use a 2D flash Sonic instead the CGI one. Not only it would it be cheaper, but it'd also look better.
It is a fan made film. It is not by DreamWorks or other professional movie makers, it is made by fans. Making a movie is hard work. So don't talk trash about it until you have made a sonic fan film that is better then this one which will be hard to do seeing how this movie was cool

Honestly this holds up surprisingly well for a fan film from 10 years ago. I kinda wish the live action Sonic movies took inspiration from this. While I like the movies we got something like this could have been way cooler on a Hollywood budget.
I was thinking the same thing. I much prefer this than the Sonic movies we got. Especially DJ Hazard‘s portrayal as Eggman. He killed it imo.

I became a fan through things like 06 and Sonic X and whatnot, so I’ve always liked the cooler and more serious Sonic, even as a kid. So this here definitely is the kind of Sonic movie I would’ve loved to see.
@@anomaly395 I'm right there with you, I love angsty Sonic. Hopefully we'll get to see that Sonic in the near future. They're taking steps in the right direction with Sonic Frontiers and from what I've read Sonic Movie 3 is gonna be a lot darker than the other 2 movies.
@@BlindNostalgia Frontiers is a start but it’s not quite there for me in some areas. And I have heard that 3 will be “darker” but I don’t really trust that. I don’t doubt it’ll have darker subjects but I think thematically it will still be very kiddy. I honestly don’t care too much about it.
This version of Dr. Robotnik/Dr. Julian Kintobor is almost as good as the Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM version.
He really looks like how the character would be like in real life.

Agreed.. Jim Cummings really nailed the role of Robotnik very well in the SatAM series.. despite ALMOST sounding like an other character of his (Pete from Goof Troop) in certain scenes.. The guy in this film nails Robotnik just as well as Jim Cummings did (if not better)
My only complaint is, his mustache is too small. Of course I'm joking, but I wouldn't mind it being a tad bigger

It's a fan film about Sonic the Hedgehog done by a small indie studio. Yeah the CG doesn't look very good, but what do you want, Industrial Light and Fucking Magic?
I had a good laugh, but of course there are some problems. No movie is without sin. But you guys have to give them a break on what they could and couldn't do.
For what they tried to do, I have to give them credit. All in all, not too bad I guess, except for one thing; you brought in quite a few internet celebrities (Nostalgia Critic, Brentalfloss, Egoraptor) but only Arin had lines? Come on, if you bring in a guy known for singing, have him sing! Make this a musical, why the fuck not?

I grew up on sonic the hedgehog, ever since I was a kid I loved this franchise. I have many fond memories. And watching this takes me back. You have no complaints from me. Good fucking job.

I thought this was incredibly well done. You people who think the graphics are poor are ridiculous. Exactly what do you expect from a TH-cam channel? What I saw was leagues better than most of the crap Sci-Fi puts out and that is a legit cable channel. The best part of TH-cam is for the creators to have a place to experiment and learn. Be constructive rather than a twit and they may pay more attention to what you have to say.

It was good for what it was: a fan-made speculative film, an idea of how a live-action _Sonic_ might look, essentially a proof-of-concept.
Were it released as a full-fledged film, though, it would be horrible. The animation was decent at best, the CG/live action integration was poor, and I don't want to get into the acting. As Martha Rogers put it, "Even a layman can spot an uninspired performance."
Sonic's VA just proves a point here.
Jaleel White (the voice you hear here) was the same dude who did the old Sonic cartoons Sonic the Hedgehog, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Underground. And I see in the comment section that some people's ears were bleeding by his voice here. That just proves that a single person just can't be Sonic forever and his voice needs to move on to others. So for people bitching about Sonic's voice and cry to bring Jaleel, Ryan, or Jason back...look back at this film and just be grateful those guys had a great role once in Sonic's life.
The voices may have been golden once but they will later change. Which is one reason for the change of actors. (Also actors may step out for personal reasons too, so stop bitching at SEGA for the changes and think about the actors too)
Honestly, I like Sonic's voice here... I'm not a "Bring X person back!" kind of guy... but I think Jaleel's performance had energy and charisma... It's NOT perfect. nothing about this film is, but I think it fit in this capacity.
I'm glad he did me a favor and reprised the role.

huskiesghost Drummond actually almost got the role back for Sonic Colors, but couldn't do it because Sega is an anti-union company. And I actually don't think Jaleel White was that bad in this. It's not really proof of anything, as one's mileage may vary.
God, that new live-action redesign makes THIS Sonic look more favorable.
I just love the fact that Eggman looks like Theodore Roosevelt, who inspired the character's design in the first place!
