    Yeah, this week the major news outlets finally were giving out dire warnings about logistics and that there won’t be the toys kids want by the time thanksgiving rolls around.and that our food choices will be limited, and of course that makes the prices soar. So, there was a bunch of panic buying, again. Please, good people, be careful with your preps; loose lips about what you have WILL cause hard feelings from the folks who haven’t prepped, maybe worse than hard feelings. Don’t stress out! We got this! Be glad in the Lord and REJOICE! 💕❤️

    Hey Charles! Pine cones make great fire starters and they're free. Interesting pix from Stanford WM. I get curbside pickup there pretty often and I can usually get the items I want, but I don't shop for toys and I haven't gone inside for a while. Dollar Tree in Berea was well stocked yesterday. Cashier said they finally got a truck in. They also had more help than they've had in a long while, so I'm guessing the unemployment benefits have been reduced and people are having to go back to work. Just a small update from Central KY. God bless. ~~Laura

    Went to DG and used my $5 Saturday coupon...Dinty Moore was on sale so I bought 4...I bought a Turbo Blue refillable butane jet lighter for $4...they last for a long time...thanks for reminding me to get rechargeable batteries...I have some but they're old , lol...I like the duracells myself...I'm going to get 4 of the D cell size for my Coleman battery lantern...I've had it twenty years so it needs new batteries...the ones that are in it are ni cad and I'll have to cut the old battery pack open with my dremel tool to change them...sounds like I'd better go work on my stove building...my plan is to have a cord of pine and kindling and a rick of oak...I have to keep 16 off grid batteries warm. I have a load of wood in my truck to unload and Monday will start hauling wood again and " stacking it to the rafters "...just watched the forecast...a lot of snow and cold waves expected for November for here...it never snows here until Christmas so I' am just going to prepare for a really bad winter... I decided to go ahead and get two more batteries before years end so there will be 18 of them to keep the lights on in this " dark winter" that has been predicted. It has been about a year since I started my battery collection...and I am glad I did now. Once I get all my batteries and wood in I won't have as much left to do...I made a pint of moonshine yesterday in the pot still, so I'm going to burn it in the generator to weld up the stove with...how's that for hillbilly ?

    There's a 12 week delay on production of our mini wood burner cook stove. Hope we get it before any shtf scenario! But I'm looking up old recipes that rely on non-imported ingredients. So glad that, except for the stove, I've never had any electric kitchen gadgets. Everything I make is made using woman power and the stove. Never had an electric mixer, blender etc.
    We are in the middle of reading The Little House In The Big Woods to the five year old and showing him the recipes in We'll Eat Again, a book of British WW2 rationing recipes. They both give him an idea of basic living and how different life was without the relatively easy times we have just now. I'm also getting my mother to remember, as best she can, her wartime eating and house care experiences. We took a decision that prepping also includes mental preparation for the whole family. It should not scare the young or very old, but they need to know or remember that there are other ways of life that just might become necessary again in the future.

      Hi Jenni, I sure hope the stove gets there. We will pray for that. those hand tools are best anyway. I do think children are very resilient and and can handle most things when presented in the correct way. They do need to be taught that everything isn't free and some things may become very hard in the future.

    I saw a video a while ago, on a GENIUS SALT SUBSTITUTE.
    🧂Foraged greens, dried and powered in a salt shaker.
    Due to the minerals and trace minerals contained in greens growing randomly on good natural soil, said minerals give food a salt flavor, while replenishing vital nutrients for our health.

      @BackRoadsLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      greens dry fast, spread on a towel or newspaper before grinding up.
      I never thought of oven drying it, would certainly do it on the least amount of heat possible, if at alll, because heat might kill some vitamins and other nutrients. Sunshine at a window works just fine.
      I would rinse all these tender herbs and greens well first though, to remove any sand or dirt. Then spread out to dry.

    It took me three months to get my new head for my weed eater. Next, It's my favorite dish soap, Awesome dish soap works best for me, it went from 50 oz to 30oz. That's right they cut even stuff from Dollar Tree, those shelves were Bare. That was 2 days ago. Yesterday we went to our local market and it didn't have much food. And our prices jumped 50 cents to 4 dollars on our food. So I went to Family dollar store, I bought seeds at 10 cents a pack. At least we'll have that for next year. Your right on the list , buy extra blankets, make extra sleeping bag with heavy Blankets, you can close them with Velcro, done this for my kids when they were little. Also make your own candles, I find wax at thrift stores. You can save dollars by putting things together that may meet your families needs. I thank you very much Charles and Sandy! We need some one with level head to help guide everyone though these very trying times!

      😎 Some people reuse their lids until these stop working.
      If a jar didn't seal, replace lid and waterbath again.
      If in doubt reuse lids when making pickles, as vinegar and salt also help preserve.

    Buy organic Potatoes, you can plant potatoes that you let sit out & get eyes on them , you can grow them in 5 gallon buckets ,or totes , I've started this year growing potatoes, I keep all my seeds , dry them out on a piece of paper or cardboard, till they r dry , then keep in a cool , dark place ,like each in an envelope an right on each envelope green peppers, tomato seeds , must be organic as they have sprayed regular vegetables with GMO spray ,that's why for years everything got bigger , it has to be organic ,which u only need to buy 1 item of each to get good growing seeds , also GOD BLESS U
