Today we review Keith Jessee's 1979 LS-Swapped G-Body Malibu dubbed the Hoodrat Hotrod. This is one of the wildest cars I have ever drove or ridden in, and is the textbook example of not judging a book by its cover. The car has roughly 600 horsepower and is built to do whatever Keith wants to do with it, a combination of a super fast, well handling, daily driver. You may recognize this car from the Holley Performance TH-cam/Facebook/Instagram as we use it an a lot of video shoots. It became popular when it cooked its engine in the burnout competition at LS Fest East 2017.

I have a soft spot for the Malibu. When i was 10 or so, a friend of the family had a 81 x cop car. Just the 305, but at 10, it seemed like a race car everytime he hammered down lol. That kick down when he would floor it, ill never forget. Got to drive it back then down the dirt roads. I end up getting a 80' wagon years back. Brought back all kinds of good memories of the 80s. Its what got me into cars. My daughter loves when I hammer on it too. And can't forget burnouts, doughnuts.

I have just reviewed I bet 100 different Malibu youtube videos in all sorts of configurations..drag race, street rod, 24 inch rims and I have one conclusion...You have the best and coolest Malibu G Body. That is my opinion. Thanks and I have watched your video dozens of times, can't get enough and you 2 are rock stars and love your pup...sweet dog.

I ran a TKO 600 in a Fox Mustang drag car and didn't have any kind of hinky shifting like that. What oil is he using? I had fantastic results with Penzoil Syncromesh. No doubts though, he'll love the T56 when it gets done.
Something is definitely broken on the trans, t56 life should be legit!

I have a 1981 malibu and i just bought a LQ4 6.0L to put in it, i live on the west coast of Canada and was looking for a engine swap kit that doesn't have to ship all the way from the southern states. Anyone know of any good kits that might be closer to home? i really liked BRP's kit but its gotta travel pretty far to come to Canada. Also i really like this guys malibu, i have the same dream for my 81
love the malibu's i need to get me another had a 80 malibu with a 454 out of a 32ft motorhome rebuilt it, 500ci crank 40 over (468) used brodix heads hi rise intake 850 dominator and a built turbo 400. loved it than had kids and buh bye. i am looking if anyone knows about one im located in WI
I'm thinking the 434 I'm collecting parts for going in my 79 el camino will put me in this power range. Cant wait to see the outcome but doing a full frame off first.

That's a kit that's been pieced together. Dominator ECU with an LS main harness. Call the tech line and they can help find what works for you!

what gears are you running in that curry rear end bro?
When this video was recorded it had a 3.25 and the TKO600 with a .64 5th gear. i've since switched to a 3.89 and T56 with a .63 6th gear and like it much better
