Thanks for the sub it really means a lot! I think I find myself over talking and rambling on so it is good to hear your comment lol Thanks for the view!
This has been an issue on Ram trucks with aluminum drive shafts, not just TRX, for many years. Had a ‘15 Ram R/T with the driveshaft “clunk” issue. Never got it fixed as I got used to feeling like someone had bumped my rear bumper. Good to know the cause.
It goes back much further than that to the beginning of the previous body style to 03MY. The cardboard core would come loose inside the aluminum tube and be all screwed up. That's why they have big warnings saying do not drop.
Hey Tyler, thanks for sharing another informative tutorial. Fortunately this is a warranty repair that the average customer will just have to take their truck to the dealership to get it taken care of!!! 👍👍🙂
Hi Tyler, Thank you as always for the awesome content. So i took my truck last may 2023 and the clunk noise was addressed. Its now April 2024 unfortunately the clunk noise came back. any news or update you know about. Is mopar still using this "magical grease"? The clunk is very annoying and my warranty is almost running out, im worried it will come back few months down the line and I will be without warranty. Thank you Tyler.
Thanks for the video! I've been waiting for weeks for this to be fixed by my local dealer! To know that it's just a tube of grease is aggravating but we'll have to see if it's a long term fix.
I bought two Trx trucks A 21 and now I have 22 I did both of mine and I used red #2 mystic grease and so far if has work great . Fyi Love the truck and now just waiting om the Raptor R To show him my tailgate LOL
Stumbled across your channel. I'm battling a "clunk" feeling in my front end on my 2023 Ram 1500 Laramie. I've swapped the end links out, I've changed the sway bar bushings, I've confirmed everything is tight up front. Dealership of course says they don't feel or hear anything but it drives me absolutely nuts. It's only when going over bumps at low speeds. Any ideas what I should check next?
I think I started feeling some kind of clunk at about 4000 miles. I now have 4800. Doesn’t do it all the time and it is very subtle. You can only feel it with your feet or seat, makes no distinctive noise. Does that sound like what you are describing?
Great video! I have taken my TRX twice and they keep on “not being able to duplicate the issue” So I’m at the point where I’m just going to do this myself. I will just reuse the old booth and the old screws.. so all I need is the metal clamp and the grease? Would you by chance have item number on that grease if it’s sold by itself?
This is the part number for the full Mopar kit 68597433AA. The grease info is this, kluber lubrication jip 84-402. But I can't really find it online anywhere. Thanks for the view!
I guess it could cause a little more load or wear on the tcase output bearings possibly. But I wouldn't think it would cause a larger failure. Thanks for the view!
No I think I will be leaving the rest of them installed for the repair. It did make it easier to film though but up on a lift just the one side removed with make it a quicker job. Thanks for the view!
Quick question for you, Tyler - assuming I have the driveshaft clocked in a position that I can unclip the boot clamp, do you think I'll be able to only un-bolt the front, and leave the rear bolts alone? Like, let the shaft rest on a block of wood while I pull the front section out and apply the new grease - or do you think that will just cause some additional headaches, and I'll be better off yanking the whole thing out?
I just tried doing this on a customer truck at work last week and even up on the lift there is just not enough room to get the front part of the drive shaft to slide off. So I ended up having to pull the whole drive shaft. Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter I did the Recall myself it wasn't for my drive shaft number but it seemed to fix it I do still feel like I have a bit of lash though when I go from reverse to drive But it definitely stopped the clunking noise when I was breaking or accelerated
@@TylerPotter Have you tried using a different type of grease? Someone in a forum said that Amsoil Synthetic Multi-Purpose did well for him. Though he never replied with a follow up regarding the issue... maybe that's a good sign?
@@TylerPotter my shaft looks different than the TRX. The yoke slides into the transfer case instead. You think it needs lubed as well. My dumb brain was thinking the case fluid was doing the job
@@TylerPotter nope! We do not have official dealerships in my country unfortunately. Company that sold me the truck said that the driveshaft is maintenance free. But it is still clunking…)
Tyler, I was wondering if your clunk has returned? I had my TSB for the Clunk done and it went away for about 8k miles and now its starting to return... Has yours? Also the spring lean my dealer wouldnt do saying there is no SB or Recall for that... Is this true? Thanks
I thought I have felt it once or twice but at least mine seems way better so far. Also the Service bulletin number for the suspension issue is 02-004-22 that should apply for 2021-2022 TRX's
@Tyler Potter The Driveshaft issue is still not like it was and as you said I have felt it a few times but not like it was, I'm just concerned it's on the way back...Thanks for the TSB#....I'm debating on getting a 2023 but still back and fourth on keep mine for a while and get the last year of the TRX....Or I think it's the last year....Again thanks for always replying and be awesome to help...
I actually took 2 longish trips right after the repair totaling 800ish miles. So far it has been good, I keep thinking I will feel it (very very slightly) every now and again but it might just be me overthinking it lol Thanks for the view!
@@TylerPotter I had a 2021 with the issue and now a 2023 with the issue. Is there an updated TSB for 2023 trucks? I can only find the one for 2022 and older.
Thank you for the time you take in your videos explaining every step! Very appreciated by all of us TRX owners.

My TRX doesn’t have a clunk yet at 22K miles. Hoping won’t need to get this serviced but good to know.

Tyler, thank you very much for your video, could you write the part number so we can order them in our country?

We're you able to find the lube outside the dealership?

Great video Ty. Question, what damage can it cause if we ignore the clunk?
I guess it could cause a little more load or wear on the tcase output bearings possibly. But I wouldn't think it would cause a larger failure. Thanks for the view!
What are torque specs for the drive shaft? I’ve called multiple dealers and get different numbers.
Silly question- if all we really need to do is lube up on side, do you really even need to take it complete off?

Had this fix done at dealer and it fixed it temporarily and then came back after 4 months ? Now they don’t know what to do
Hey Tyler do you know if the sandblast edition has this done already to it ?
I'm not sure when the factory hopefully started doing this. Thanks for the view!
Do you torque the bolts after you are done?
Interesting that there are not grease fittings on these. My land cruiser has fittings on the slip yoke and the spider joints for PM.
A grease fitting would be a good thought for sure! Thanks for the view!
hey man have you ever thought about installing the oem mopar wireless charging phone pad in your trx?
I haven't really looked into it since mine it a 2021 so I need to be plugged in for android auto anyways. Thanks for the view!

What's the part number for the grease?

Have you made a video about the squeak chirp sound that RAM says is "normal"? That sound is only thing I hate about my TRX.

Hey Tyler, so far no more clunks?
So far to good. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts, mine didn't start until about 5k miles originally. Thanks for the view!

No that is weird send the last 8 digits of your VIN number and I can look.

Pretty much all trucks with a two-piece drive shaft have this drive shaft moving issue. It's been evident in Ford trucks for 20 years
