The Dwarven city that Elrond visits is actually Khazad-dum, which is eventually named Moria after it's fall. This is where the fellowship fights the cavetroll and Gandalf confronts the Balrog in the first Lord of the rings film ☺️ Durin is one of the ancient Dwarven lines that Thorin derives from. ☺️

I think that "the stranger" is one of the blue wizards. It is the 2nd age, and Gandalf doesn't arrive in Middle Earth until the 3rd age.
The blue wizards were thought to have arrived in the 2nd age, plus the writers would be free to develop the blue wizard(s) into whatever they need for the story since not much was written about them.

The dwarven realm they entered is not Erebor, but Khazad Dûm, which in the third age is known as More, or mines of Moria.

The show is about 6000 years before the Lord the Rings.
The Balrog demon in LOTR Gandalf fights is nick named ''Durins Bane'' by the Dwarves. Because it killed a dwarf called Durin.

I like the intro for the reference to the Ainulindalë, the creation of the world by Eru Ilúvatar (god) and the Ainur (his first creations) who sing it into being. The intro shows the use of vibrations to create patterns in the sand which is a real phenomenon you could google.
Edit: I like the black sand snaking through which would be Melkor (Morgoth) sewing discord into the song. You're right it's not catchy but I appreciate the reference

So, unless they are majorly messing with the timeline, ironically one of the only identities we can rule out for the meteor guy is Gandalf since he didn't arrive until much later. But the problem is that the writers of the show are doing a good job of giving us information on the meteor guy that comes from both the good and the bad end of the spectrum. For example, on one hand we have the animal whispering, which is a very wizardy thing to do (Gandalf used this magic in almost every movie). But on the other hand, when Nori steps into the crater after the meteor man falls, she points out that the fire and the coals aren't hot at all. At the beginning of episode one, one of the Elf soldiers in Galadriel's company points out that their torches give off no warmth, which Galadriel points out is because of the strength of the evil lingering there. Since Nori (likely) isn't supremely evil, we have to assume that meteor man would be the source of evil stealing warmth from the crater (if its the same cause as before). So we have both good and evil attributes for our mystery meteor man.

The blue wizards are the only Istari that come in the second age I believe. In any case, it seems more likely to me that it is Sauron taking on a new, human looking form to do what he'll do.

27:29 Morgoth stole silmarils (3 gems filled with the light of two trees). They are most certainly not in this chest. But don't worry you will see what Dwarves found later in the show. It is essential part of the story.

I'm just going to jump out there and say that I think this wizard is saruman. He even sounds like he's trying to tell her his name when he frustratingly relates Ure Mann to Nori. Additionally, if the series follows the books with respect to wizards, Saruman was the first of his order in Middle earth. I really wish it were gandalf, though.

@@Makkaru112 it's been a while since I read The Silmarillion, but I thought I remembered the Istari entering Middle Earth around the time of the fall of Numenor. My timeline is hazy, then. I also forgot how long the 2nd and 3rd age were.
The more I go back and read up on it, the less I like the series. Still, it's something to watch that at least looks Middle-Earthy.
Guess this is what happens when you let money and other agendas supercede accuracy.

By turning 5000 years into something like 10-20 years and pressing all the events closer to each other.
