    My favorite garden saying..
A true friend ignores your broken gate and admires the flowers in your garden. Laura, sun porch is a beautiful space, even with evidence of work and weather.

I've seen my fair share of children who are not at all like him, and I think that the fact that he is so well-behaved and careful with the plants is because of Laura and Aaron's diligent parenting. One of the best things about Laura and Aaron is the way they deal with the normal hassles that we all face. That kind of wind I'd be so aggravated. So instead of complaining to my husband about a few trees that never have thrived in our yard, I'm just going to go find something I love at the nursery and replace them. And then I won't feel disappointed every time I look at the little sticks. (I'll put them in pots and try to save them anyway. I'm a sucker for underdogs.) Have a great weekend fellow gardeners. It's beautiful here in central Florida.

Laura, I had Meyer lemon that had scale even worse than yours does and I got rid of it with rubbing alcohol. It took a couple of hours going over the entire plant, paying particular attention to the all the tiny little crevices, especially in the tender new growth. I used Qtips - a lot of them - and little by little, cleaned every inch of that plant. They never came back. That particular plant did not survive a move, but at least scale didn't claim it. ~ Lisa

Laura...you won't believe this (because I didn't) but I put my lime on the patio last summer as I always do. It was covered with scale so I was going to use hort dormant oil on it and one day I was having lunch and looked down on the tree and saw these ants very busy all over the branches...well!...they were eating the scale!!...I have been in this business for nearly 50 yrs and have never seen this happen. I brought it in for winter and not one scale showed it's grossness! The ants did a very thorough job of eating adults and babies...I was amazed and thought I'd share this with you. I watch and love every episode you film...there are so many reasons I love your show but one thing in particular is the way you talk to us...you have a lifetime of experience but you are so down to earth and inspiring...thank you for sharing your creativity and knowledge...you and Aaron are very special teachers and your family is just adorable...sending {{{HUGS}}} from the East (New Hampshire) to you out in your Westness...x

Good morning from Indiana! I love your videos, Laura. I just bought my first house nestled near Indiana Dunes National Park and you inspire me to make it beautiful. I have deer and wild turkeys in my backyard so picking plants that they won’t eat has been a challenge! I hope everyone has a great weekend! 🦌🌱🌻🌤

Mum/gardener/wife/youtuber/businesswoman/cat lover/daughter/sister/friend to the community/the list goes on ... (not necessarily in that order!) you inspire us all. Hx

I live in Australia and when I grew up Hopscotch was 3 single steps followed by a double step one more single and lastly a double step. Too funny to see it differently laid out. Chalk is so much fun for kids.I also did a lot of water play with mine. A spray bottle to shoot the aphids off my roses. Paint the house with a paintbrush and water. Benjamin is so lucky to grow up with you as parents and on such a lovely property.

Why would you keep a citrus tree w scale and aphids right near two that are healthy while in recovery stage esp before treating?

  • @lindseygerner4677

I can't thank you enough for all the information you give to us. You've made little comments here and there when you are showing us certain parts of your garden about how you to need freshen up areas with more mulch. We are going on two years since we built our home (in Wisconsin--zone 5 with tons of clay and we live right by KayTee (the largest birdseed factory). We have a sloped hill that was a bear to mow, so we turned it into a 110x25 foot rock garden last summer. There was no way we were going to be weeding that hill (from the blowing bird seeds) AND laying fresh mulch every year. Besides that, we also needed mulch all around the house. We took the plunge and ordered 16,000 lbs of rubber mulch--- BEST DECISION EVER! It is close to twice more expensive, but it doesn't fade for 12 years. It looks beautiful no matter what season and can handle high winds. It's actually good for the environment and our plants. The rubber the companies use is from old tires---that has to go somewhere because it can't be burned. It's soft on bare feet and the pieces are really small. Super light and easy to move around. We got ours in 5 totes of 2000lbs and the other 3 in bags of 50. All came on pallets. For the large totes, we raised it up on a skid steer, sliced a hole in the bottom and let it run down the hill. We stored the leftovers as we knew the ground would settle with the new property. Seriously, try it for a small part of your yard and see how you like it. You won't regret it. I just love that we don't have to freshen this up for over 12 years! Either way, thank you for all you share and allowing us to watch your family grow!
