Ditto on 1.3 acres! Mine is split with a circular drive, so I’m doing the upper half where the house sits first and just mowing the lower for now. Splitting it into two zones makes it easier to plan and work, even though the whole thing will look continuous at the end - as if the driveway came afterwards. I am planting a few shrubs in both places so they’ll be the same type and size. Anyway, it’s the only way I could handle it in my head without freaking out - and also be able to afford it!💰😁

Also not letting them fruit until a proper structure is formed. Some people deformed their little fruit trees like this. I personally wait for three years plucking off immature fruit then I let them fruit until their hearts content. I always thin because trees are long lived so proper pruning and care will bring so much reward for the future.

Also, think about what varieties of fruit you want to have, because one tree will produce a lot of fruit for you to deal with! Will you be preserving the fruit? If so, get varieties that preserve well. Will you have apples just for eating out of hand? Get a variety that will store well or one you will want to share or sell, as there may be more than you will need. These are things that may not be in the forefront of our minds when choosing fruit trees. You will(hopefully) have these trees producing a lot of fruit every year for a long time. Some years I am wracking my brain to think of something else to do with my sour cherries, even though I do love them! Also, depending on your climate, some years the blossoms may freeze and you will have no fruit that year. We sometimes have apricots and sometimes not, they bloom very early, while it’s still quite cold. Happy planting!

I love your orchard set up near the possible shed and its use with your flower garden - great purposeful planning! I love eating apricot cross plumb fruits too. Here, in California, we call them "Pluots" (plu-ots).

Here in New Zealand, to help feed the newly planted tree and to help it retain some moisture during the summer months, we put a pile of daggy wool down in the planting hole, then place the tree on top and fill in with the dirt.😊🐑

If they don’t they will even travel up to three mikes to find food. I wish I had your soul here. We have heavy clay plus tons of huge rocks in our area make it harder to create a uniformed design. The parting drone shot, I didn't notice the trees you planted last spring along the fence where the vehicles were parked.
Did they get pulled out or moved? Aaron worked so hard and even had to replant some because of placement miscalculation.
I look forward to learning more about dormant oil. Linda Vater had a great tips video and mentioned equipment she uses to apply it. I've never applied anything to my fruit trees and have a new Honeycrisp I want to take good care of from the start.

yeah, but if compatible tree is very, very far away, it's questionable if same bees that visit one tree will also visit the other. it's not like bees have plans of how to best pollinate this particular sort of plant, they just go around looking for food

I'm in a windy area too, and when the fruit trees are in full beautiful bloom and the wind blows off all the flowers before they have been pollinated, my crabapple tree doesn't produce well that year. But if spring winds hold off then all is good. So now I put pots of flowers over by the tree first, as soon the flowers can take the weather. To make sure that there are bees around my tree right when the blooms open.
