JUST GREAT !. We battled for ages hitting with one large hammer eventually having to angle grind the last knuckle off. Ended up damaging the good INNER CV on the other side of the shaft which then also had to be replaced. EXCELLENT METHOD.
Espero que no vuelvas a montar la misma junta homocinética porque con el golpe que le has metido tanto con el martillo como contra el suelo a sido bastante brutal.., yo personalmente las quito con el martillo de fibra de plástico, puede que cueste más, pero la profesionalidad de un mecánico es hacer las cosas bien hechas y si al cliente le pega por ver que es lo que le han hecho por que fuése maniático, mejor ver el coche impecable, con el trabajo bien hecho y como si no hubiése pasado nada, que verlo lleno de marcas de martillazos. (Es mi opinión como mecánico y como profesional). Grácias!
X5 on a lift. Separate lower ball joint. Cut boot off, wipe out grease, air hammer on inner edge of joint near shaft pops right out. Slide on new boot and clamps. Reinstall shaft and joint. Fill boot with grease, clamp boot. Send it.
People using these fucking air powered stretchers to do a cv boot, this is exactly what sets apart a mechanic from a fitter. A fitter throws new parts at something, a mechanic fixes things
Last CV I bought was around $45 dollars at O’riellys. I’d rather pay that price for new, than to pay you to rebuild. Rebuilding doesn’t seem cost effective, unless your labor is free.
I think the CV joint needed to be replaced before he hit it on the ground. If only it had to be greased and fitted with a new bellows, the action would be fraudulent on the customer, but we don't know that. Cutting towards the arm with the knife is highly risky, but not for the customer.

And how do you feel about hitting a punch with a hammer? No offset of the hand at all there, a miss is a struck hand. At least with a hammer you've got some offset to the hand.
@@johncoldwell340 The french brand Renault and others use an incessible clip indide the CV joint. you can see it only when the whole thing is apart. If the CV doesn't get out by hammer, you need to destroy the ball bearing inside the cv joint and cut the internal part with a grinder, then you can change the CV joint. Not a fast part change.

Reason why you never hit two hammers together is because that they are both hardened and they will splinter or explode shooting shrapnel at you! Punches and chisels are softer material designed to be hit that’s the reason they mushroom
What are you doing with it? Most of the time CV axles come with boots already assembled. Are you breaking it down for the strap bin? Or reusing some components?

The last time I had to replace a CV joint, it was cheaper to buy the whole rebuilt driveshaft with two new CV, joints and boots, and just put it in. It may have been $20 more to get an entirely new driveshaft with two new boots and two new CV joints as opposed to buying just The new CV joint and replacing just one… Check first

The cheap chinese knock offs dont last as long as your original or oem. If you csn get away with just replacing the boot, go ahead and keep your old part
that's because they can chip and that tiny piece can fly off and hurt you or even bury itself into your skin. Don't ask me how I know. That doesn't mean you wont get away with it but someday it could happen. Not a good practice.
@@kwaczas someone who has a piece of hardened metal chip off while I was helping a guy air chisel something, it stuck right in my abdomen. You can see it under the skin and play with it with a magnet.😂 also you shouldn’t hit the joint with a steel hammer. Brass is preferred.
We dont have this here no more. People pulling all entire shaft out shoving in a new one. But in the old days repairs like this doesnt hurt anybody. Wonder whats the real culprit is.
Always cut away from you when using a knife and always wear eye protection when hitting two hardened items together. Might as well shoot a lead pellet at point blank into your eye.

I ran repair shops for 30 years. This is a waste of time. Purchase a new complete shaft with a lifetime warranty. The price is the same for the customer. Move on to the next vehicle.
In the mean time while you're disassembling the old one for repair I've already put a new one in and by the time cinch those new clamps up I've already got another car half done and by the time you've finished up your CV repair I've finished up mine also while make twice the money. It never adds up to repair the CV joint when you can replace the whole shaft and I don't know why anyone would choose a repair over replace and end up paying more for labor..

I have encountered axel wher two new boots cost more than a complate new axal. It depends on whitch model car it is . I have done lotes of boot replacements repack included, when it is cheapest way to go.
Tha c.v boot was good, factory grade rubber, that blow to disconnect the c.v from the drive shaft not the best with that kind of hammer, brass is the one but then the c.v gets another blow on the floor! Good bye threads and I hope you changed the retaining ring but I doubt it..

My brother hit 2 hammers like that, a tiny chip broke off one of them but travelling like a bullet , the chip went into his arm hitting a vein , blood everywhere.
I just go to the junkyard and get the whole thing, brake pads too, hell I even drained the oil and took that the oil pan and the filter, came back the next day for the struts, stabilizer bars, wheel bearings, and an alternator
The Chinese have flooded the aftermarket with affordable parts. No body repairs anymore. Yank the old one, open a box and smack the new one in. 15 mins tops.
15min…? I see you’re not familiar with bitchin’ axle nuts. Also chinese parts usually have a very short lifespan, as the comment above said, you’ll be redoing the work after 2years, which is not bad considering you’ll make 2x labor that way. OEM axles are also usually much stiffer, tenacious and can withstand higher torque output, but for a daily driver this is probably of not much importance.

I used to do that on the car you don't need to take it out completely if you're just renewing the outer CV joint

This is what makes some mechanics great, they didn’t simply swap old for new, they repaired the old part - the problem

Alot of cars use to have clips that you need to hold open with special clip Pliers before you try removing the joint

You can hit hammer with hammer it's been myth busted . Although if your hammer is old & corroded parts can fly when hitting anything with the hammer.

Now a days you can replace whole axle, by the time you do all that ,just like rebuilding calipers. No one does it, takes to long.

15min…? I see you’re not familiar with bitchin’ axle nuts. Also chinese parts usually have a very short lifespan, as the comment above said, you’ll be redoing the work after 2years, which is not bad considering you’ll make 2x labor that way. OEM axles are also usually much stiffer, tenacious and can withstand higher torque output, but for a daily driver this is probably of not much importance.
