    Little do the people of the town knew that Keith was alive and well. He had relocated to another little town in the country where he started writing novels. He kept wearing flannel shirts every day but after a while he got tired of writing so he changed his style to write about the strange dark and mysterious in story format.

    I have a suspicion that Ted was the one to murder both Tom and Keith. He was the last one to see Keith alive. They found no trace of him on or near the mountain where he supposedly told Ted he was going to go. I think that's because he never went there that evening. My theory is that Ted was worried Keith was getting close to discovering what really happened to Tom and his dog so he made him disappear, then edited the ending to his story.

    One thing I've learned from MrBallen over the years is that, whenever you find yourself wandering into a forest. NEVER GO TO ANY CLEARING.

    • @m0t0b33
      @m0t0b33 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      You don't wander into a forest... you go there cause you know your way around the area... and clearings can be very pretty. But if you don't know anything about mountains and don't get any provisions or equipment, don't go there, period. Best case scenario you can call out for help and you get rescued, worse case, you get exposed to the elements or say hello to a hungry animal in whose house you went... and then you're lucky if you're found and/or identified to get a proper burial.

      A few years ago I was hiking through some heavily wooded DNR land, I found a tiny clearing with two flat square stones in the middle, it turned out it was a gravesite from one of the valleys earliest settlers. Their descendants still live in the area, so I told them about finding the graves, apparently they had lost the location several generations ago after that plot was sold to the state, so they were excited to hear about it.

  • @davewade30
    @davewade30 ปีที่แล้ว +193

    I think Ted killed Keith, Tom, and his dog. Ted is the link that binds all the players. He easily could've written that ending for him to "find" later pointing to suicide. It was Ted who convinced Keith to come to town and to write out of Tom's store. The first thing Ted did when Keith arrived was show him the trail that ultimately led to Tom's body. So based on this video, Ted is my number one suspect.

      I was looking for this comment. This is the exact thing I deduced. Ted killed Tom. Through his search Keith figured this out. He didn't go to the bar to tell Ted he was going into the forest. He told him some of what he figured out. Ted later killed Keith, hid his body. The next day he notified the police and concocted the story about him coming by to say he was going into the forest late that afternoon(which no one in their right mind would do) because people saw Keith come to the bar and talk to Ted. The search and rescue bought Ted time to write the "ending" to Keith's story for him to later "find".

    During his research into Tom, Keith figured out that his friend Ted had killed Tom. So Ted also killed Keith to cover his tracks. Which is why Keith and Ted's last conversation didn't make any sense. That's the thing about living in a small town in the middle of nowhere in the US. You can wander in the woods and end up getting eaten by a lion or murdered, and be lucky if some hiker stumbles on your remains. Worst yet, you will have town police on the case who will have less resources and man power to actually solve these kind of cases, if the one in question hasn't gone cold well in advanced.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly... I'm thinking maybe Keith figured out that whoever killed Tom had been in the Cafe... whether or NOT it was his friend... They'd overheard something about Tom out to scope out some more of the mountain... or explore something or other...
      I think Keith got curious about Tom's death, and thought he'd go up and start a reasoned search about for hints of whatever's hidden that somebody might want kept secret... maybe a radioactive waste mismanagement site... AND maybe just a crystal meth or crack cooking site... and maybe (to Keith) his best friend's old whiskey still for "Irishing up" some of the coffee he's been serving or something...
      AND it turned out to be something he couldn't exactly get out of...
      Since Tom and Gus were found already, there's probably a bit more effort put into making sure Keith STAYS "disappeared" well into the legendary status.
      ...Side note... Silver Plume IS an old mining town, one of the many boom-towns that shriveled down, barely escaping Bust. That means there are probably quite a few hard-rock mining operations left over. You know what folks are told about abandoned mine shafts and tunnels and all??? "Stay the Hell OUT!" Most folks reason that mine shafts are more dangerous than natural caves and all... AND in the day, a LOT of mines were started FROM old caves, so there's really no telling what the hell Keith might've found or how he got himself into trouble...
      AND I just don't trust his so-called "old friend"... Normally those of us who know what's what in the woods and mountains are a bit more persnickety about letting a tenderfooted greenhorn go stumbling around the woods alone at night. That just don't stir the kool-aid... WHY would he wait overnight when he's even had mil-spec' training for it? Vet's are bigger pricks yet about "Failure to plan is planning to fail." ;o)

    • @norabrooks5163
      @norabrooks5163 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      It was the Cafe owner. Keith had to have told him his plan for figuring out who the murderer really was, and his friend panicked.
      The story of Keith going up into the mountain that late, and he not stopping him, doesn't make any sense. That's not what friends do, especially if you know they could be in danger.
      I don't know.🤷‍♀️
      But some things, in this sense, just doesn't add up.
      Maybe it's just me?🤔

Ok. There is a very good reason that the investigation never recovered TOMs Body in their called off search and a very good reason it was immediately ruled a Suicide and not a homicide knowing that anyone of any sense would immediately conclude that someone had to have put that tarp there. I'm not sure what happened to Keith, but as someone who has many mental illnesses, the obsession he seemed to have with Tom (imo) is not normal. Maybe being isolated in a room you know someone lived in who died in nearby mountains under mysterious circumstances got to his mind? The closest thing I could relate to with the obsession is Borderline Personality Disorder (I have this). We commonly have an FP, aka favorite person, whom we don't need to know and can be a fictional person. Regardless, you become obsessed with them, you wake up thinking of them and go to sleep thinking of them, and if something breaks this happy facade you've made of yourself and your fp, it's like your world explodes and you're a wreck. Sometimes this can lead to someone attempting or successfully taking their own life. The more sensitive of us who don't want help can even turn to stalking. Unfortunately it's not a mental illness that can be fixed with medication; only DBT therapy helps you manage it yourself. It's very complicated and you constantly have to adapt to changes within yourself, but it can be done.

Oh...Ole TrustyTed the owner of both places...Ted "The Plot" Parker killed the 1st guy, and when Keith who probably confronted him at one point, or Ted thought Keith had figured him out through many talks about Tom the Man and his dog, and Keith probably even mentioned to his friend "he was close to figuring this murder out." Something any writer excited about his book would do with a good friend...to talk each evening about every chapter...I did this with my wife on a book just for the feedback. Then Ted the Bookstore and Cafe owner followed him an killed him, because he knew every chapter, and was sure Keith knew the truth, and then waited...he was the 1st to look on the Computer and Ole Teddy boy notice the book (he knew was there.) an pointed out the ending etc. etc. How convenient for ole Teddy P. Only the man who knew the book would have known to even check Computer, and especially the book file...but he knew to take his buddy Keith's body elsewhere, opposite the places the Search Party would know to look....leading the whole search party on a goose chase...while he has acted like the hurt friend trying to just be of great help. Naw...The Tedster, the Cafe owner killed them both. Tom and Keith.....Plus Teddy told Keith about Tom's trip, with no other kind of "perhaps" ending of Tom....while everyone else in the town thought something else happened to Tom an Gus. They need to take another look at ole Teddy....Get Ole Lungy to look into this! Ted wasn't confused...I don't even believe Keith and Teddy even had that hiking talk. The Ted Meister made all this up, an set it up. In fact... imo the whole town is afraid of Ted Parker an possibly the Sheriff too....i'd even bet they are best of friends...I'll get my pet Detective Ostrich Named "Throat-Punch", and you check an see if "Ole Lungy" is up to it, .and this duo of epic eyes, will give this case another look see...an just maybe... Justice will be served in this little town! You can still hear the Ghost of Clifford Griffen still sitting around playin his Harmonica whenever anyone is up in area an gets close to the truth of the murders, Ole Cliff seen 1st hand in the dusky eve of Silver Plume. One day Clifford can lay his Harmonica down for good...and go into the light...but not till the murders are solved...including his own! -Diesel

It’s like listening to an old man talk about how every blade of grass was feeling and what colour socks he wore and the history of every house on the street just to tell you about that time he had a really good vanilla ice cream cone. The level of detail - made up or loosely based in reality - really puts you inside the characters head. He shares every thought, gesture and word spoken leading up to the event. • @traycwilson945

    Ted Keith's friend who owned the cafe murdered both the original book store owner (Tom), Tom's dog and his friend Keith. Only reason Keith wasn't murdered that day they went hiking up the mountain was because Keith had that panick attack and it ruined Ted's scenario of how his murdering Keith was supposed to go. The reason he finally did murder Keith was because of his decoration and change in confidence about hiking up the mountain. All his "concern" about Keith, "checking up on Keith, going to the sheriff regarding Keith, and even taking his two friends with him to look for clues in the book store were to cover up and give himself alibis regarding his murdering Keith. His clue trip with his two friends (witnesses he used) was not to look for clues about why or where Keith was (because he already new where Keith was) but to cover up evidence in the book store and on the computer. Ted wrote the ending of Keith's novel then showed his two "friends" to place them as witnesses to the novel (which neither "friend" even crossed their minds that Ted was the one who wrote the ending). Ted is a very ill man who I can guarantee has murdered before Tom, and Keith and will murder again. He won't be caught easily. The reason for all his deception is because the town is a little town and people look at everything that others around them do. Which means if he hadn't showed concern about Keith not being there the next day, about Keith going up the mountain to begin with ect, that would have rung bells and possibly got him noticed for what he is and he can't have that now can he. 🤔😉
    P.S. If for any reason I disappear or end up dead suddenly where none of my family knows why or witnesses it, then this post is the reason. Just covering my ass Ted. 👍

    • @AshleyWilliams-xq7lj
      @AshleyWilliams-xq7lj ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I read this as a mystery novel, I would have been disappointed because Ted is obviously the killer. I'll bet he was thrilled to hear that Keith was going on an ill advised hike, and that's why he didn't stop him. He killed Tom and the dog with the gun, then he passively killed Keith by letting him go.
      I don't think it has anything to do with the chemical dumping. I think Ted is a serial killer and has a "type." It explains why Keith and Tom were so similar. And why Ted encouraged Keith to move out there.

    Wonder how thorough the search for Keith was. A few places I'd check:
    Location of the Monument, check to see if he possibly ended up in the same grave or deeper under it.
    Location of Tom and his dog, possibly under there...
    Question would be if either leads to actual evidence, ie Keith's body, how would it have been hidden by a dead man. 🤔
    Or was the owner of KP Cafe, Keith's friend, getting rid of people who used the book store because of stuff they found... or perhaps Keith uncovered suspicions that his friend had murdered Tom and fell victim to the same fate.

    I feel like Keith stumbled on something in his research that he really shouldn't have, and so he went out into the woods to investigate but was taken out by the same culprit who killed Tom, and whoever took him out took care to remove his body so it wouldn't be found like Tom's body was.

    If people really were secretly dumping nuclear waste in those mountains, maybe the toxins released caused some negative psychological effects on these victims that made them do what they did. Second guy with dog.. also suicidal so copy first in a way because why not? How convenient so as he can add some mystery to this as he was going to do it anyway why not do it was some flare.. so 3rd guy shows up. Suicidal also and say wow these other 2 guy are remembered and talked about cuz of all this mystery.. well he was prob going to kill him self in some boring way where no one will remember him and he will just be a mention to the few people that new him and would fade into obscurity.. well this could be an exciting way to go out why not copy the other 2 dudes and add to the mystery and be remembered!?
