Looking at doing this? Consider: I fitted (Maxpeedingrods) S13 Coilovers to rear of my mx83, I did not like the effort and the resulting weakness of the rear top hats using the shown method. I simply cut the back of the hats at the base of the (Cone? ). I (used an Angle Grinder and cut around it until if lifted off. (Cut around not through if you Smell rubber or the Wheel slows = deep enough) pulled out the rubber, leveled edges, Drilled out Coilover locating holes, made center hole a little bigger. Used inner tube to make doughnut gasket between Top Hat and Coilovers. Also (Not done/Shown) The Rear lower Bush in the CoilOvers is too big for the bolt. Press out the center of old Shock Bush (Cut along the Rubber length through rubber through the outer layer of metal and close to the center sleeve then press center out Sand Clean and reduce thickness a few 10ths of a mil. press into new Coilover Bush sleeve Was far quicker and I have Stronger Happier Top Hats. And no rattle / Play at the rear lower Bush. Now for the Fronts.
@@Prestanium the way the welds look doesn't matter, you hacked that shit together without a tape measure in sight. Suspension geometry is now "eh looks close enough" should check the alignment to see just how comically bad it is. Either way I wouldn't take that thing over 45mph
@@alexs_garage_ damn dawg what you so offended for lmaooo. I did like 4 passes of weld with no shielding gas so yeah it looks bad. I did lots of measuring but I’m not gonna record every second of stuff I did cause who would watch a 4 hour video of me completely installing coilovers. The geometry isn’t perfect yes but it drives straight and handles the same as before. It was like $30 for me to do it this way and I can easily reverse it by buying the correct aftermarket steering knuckles which are $500 so yeah I’d rather try and have something then not try at all. I’ve driven over 100mph with no issues so I’m not sure why you’re so butthurt about what I did to my own car. If you think it’s so bad then why don’t you try to make your own video about it showing the proper way. It’s always the incognito profiles that talk the most trash as well. You prolly driving a stock base model golf or something saying all this.
sick content bro, keep upgrading that mx83
cant wait to see more vids of this down the line 🔥
Look perfect the way it is before the s14 coilovers

#1 FAN
i’ve got mx83 and looking to lower it, but jus wondering why tf u would use s13 coils rather then ones for the mx83
Cheapest mx83 ones were like $700 and cheapest s13 ones were $200. Plus there’s more options for s13 coilovers later on if I would’ve changed brands.
@@Prestanium so not for anything performance based like more angle or better damping, spring rates or sum… jus cuz of pricing?
@@Prestanium i’ve jus ben curious as i see so many ppl use the s13 ones
@@Finn_M132 in this instance no but it’s a very common mod to put s13 suspension on since you’d have to buy new knuckles regardless.
Hey mate, just wondering what did you end up doing with the sway bar link
I just ended up leaving it completely disconnected. Never really felt any difference in how it drove either.
On the front front strut tube you should of left some pipe left to weld on
I use a s13 front sway bar end link
Hey mate, just wondering was that instead of the sway bar link?
I use a S13 sway bar end link instead of the mx83 end link
@@cjohn64 Thanks for the info. Another problem solved.
Seems janky af. How long did those fronts last before snapping?
Welds ain’t gotta look nice to work lol. Been daily driving for several weeks now and have definitely put it to the test with no issues.
