I fell in love with this car earlier this year right after buying a mx83 cressida for myself. I go to school around the corner from the shop and often find myself taking the long way home just to drive by and see what's outside.
In 99 I built a 87 cressida waggon with a 1jz and 5speed swap from a supra that my buddy Matt totaled. Has the full cut down wiring and everything, no one even knew what I had. Most thought it was Nissan maxima. Would dust fox body with the family and shopping in back. Hearing this car was a flashback!!
I had a 1985 and a 1991 Cressida but I had to sell both of them after I was in an accident. I love seeing them getting the love and respect they deserve now as I got made fun of a lot for them. It always makes me sad thinking about having to sell them but I hope I can build another some day.
I just picked up a 1990 with 86K on it…minimum rust and actually so far runs like a dream!!! This video gave me inspiration definitely!! If anyone has any forums where I can find parts and more inspiration it’ll be amazing!!
This car is by far one of the best build/restores I've ever seen. The Cressida is the original Lexus and they are so rare nowadays in good working condition. I love that he's got it tuned just a bit so it's fun but still practical. I WANT ONE SOOOOO BAAD!!
Larry this is my story, my first real girlfriend from high school in 1986 her mom had a 1984 Toyota Cressida I believe it was two-tone blue a very dark blue. We used to borrow this car to go out to dinner in. As a teenager I fell in love with this car I'm not going to lie this car was so more advanced I remember just the weight of the doors we're so solid compared to you anything else in that error especially a Toyota! The digital dashboard awesome sound system for its time sunroof plush velour interior with this pool pinstriping in the seats I have yet to seen a car like this to this day I wish I could have got that car I would have kept it and took good care of it. So that's how I ended up here today I am now in my 50s searching for an 83-84 Toyota Cressida with the same features and interior to be the same color the outside I can find the original paint code and have it painted but hopefully find one in a dark blue would help. Found a a couple here in Florida but they are all burgundy or brown I will keep searching to find a car and restore it
This is not a JDM car. JDM means Japanese Domestic Market. Which means cars made to be sold in Japan. JDM doesn't mean a Japanese company, or made in Japan, simply to be sold in Japan(ie, Japanese regulations). If Ford made cars in the US, to be sold in Japan, those would be JDM Fords.
I had a 90 with a 7mgte /R154 manual swap with Subaru WRX seats,Evo e brake Nissan Max rims and wrx front brakes plus Mitsu conquest seatbelts. And hole lotta other things .miss it a lot Now its revived in a Volvo 240 Wagon. Nice job !!!!
MX73s had the clock that sang happy birthday, tells you oil life and mpg readout. MX83s were one of the first cars with a factory CD player back in the 88 MY89. Canadian X8s had headlight washers, heated seats and LSD from the factory.
I live in Trinidad, West Indies. I am an importer of used JDM cars. About 70% of cars on the roads here are imported used cars. The door visors are pretty common on these cars.
I had so much fun in my 87 Toyota Supra, I had her in 99, and she was one of the fastest cars I ever owned right next to my 77 Olds Cutlas supreme, wow, the rubber that baby left after peeling out.
As a fan of slammed sedans I can't help but love it, it's not excessive under any aspect, it's actually just right. These cars were actually pretty popular in London in the late 90s, among Gs and wanna be Gs. There were quite a few Cressidas, Crestas, MarkIIs and even Crowns, all rigorously white or cream. Then of course Lexus were too, the fugly Z30 Soarer in particular. Of course not a single one was at this level of cool, they all were slightly lowered over a set of cheesy rims. I often wonder if they survived their owners and are now in the "scene".
A few are lucky enough to keep a favourite car for life , riding it till the end of days But most are forced by circumstance to move on. Gotta pay that rent , got hit by inattentive driver, fell at the wheel or common issues that send the prized cruiser to either a new owner or the junkyard.. Had a 93 with a 1jz gte-non vvti swap & R154 tripod shifter .. she was my numero uno, my sweetheart my diamound in the rough that eventually became my love lost .. my toyota cressida wagon.. Was forced to sell it last month & was left with irreplaceable hole in my heart. Sounds emotional for an inanimate object but for true ethusiasts we know its true love.. Never sell your blue lightning!!.. & Sorry 4 the book.
Something of note that not lots of people know is the cressida (x31-x81) was sold as the cressida in aus/na is sold as cresta, mark ii, and chaser in japan and the X81 was the first model to feature a 1JZ although it was non-vvti.
(BIT OF A READ...) My youngest brother purchased himself a 2nd-Gen 1989 Toyota Camry Ultima CS-X Sedan (Australian 2nd Facelift) which was built in Altona, Port Melbourne Toyota back in late 1989 so in Australia that makes it a SV21. It holds a 2.0 liter I4 (Inline 4) 3S-GE engine and 4 speed auto FWD. Myself, my little bro plus our other brother we have our eyes on this (FULL WRITE-OFF) 3rd-Gen 1986 Toyota Cressida GLX-i up for sale real cheap because the cars been T-boned completely front and rear passenger. It still starts and drives so the idea is to buy this wrecked Cressida (by lowballing him obviously lol) strip both front and rear subframes with rear diff, the driveshaft, 7M-GE V6 engine transmission ECU & wiring harness, all upper and lower control arms, and anything we'll need to successfully complete a RWD conversion on a 1989 Toyota Camry. It's never been done before, well at least not in Melbourne. My only concern is the overall width on the Cressida is exactly 10 inches wider than the Camry. The overall length of both cars has also been addressed but its not a concern. If we can pull this off and have the Camry converted with full Cressida running gear and it runs and drives, any car guy would recognise this. Sorry for the essay lol. If you made it this far punch yourself in the face hahaha who reads that much lol. I never got into Camrys until I saw the bros one and the hype around around us with this car is legit so thought I'd let the youtube world know that someone's out there with ambitions in converting a FWD I4 Camry to a RWD V6 Camry.

wish i still could have had the one my gramps was going to give me before it blew a head gasket on the 7mge motor and had to junk it unfortunately. was thinking og doing a single turbo 1jz swap with serialnine kit

90s JDM are making a huge comeback! What use to be the least desirable cars are now a hot commodity! 🤘🏽
