@ awesome, the one I like is the anniversary single cut in Eriza Verde. One left in my local shop, unfortunately I haven’t got the royal tokens to get it atm!!
Love my PRS cu 24-08, and recently picked up a custom standard with pete thorn pickups. Both fantastic. Suhr has one of the nicest and smoothest necks ive ever played.
After 20 years of glaring and drooling over PRS I bought 2, one hard tail one Wilkinson both USA made, what I can say is don’t meet your hero’s.. I’ll stick with my Heritage H150, Hamer studio and Valley Arts California made…
I haven't played anything by Hamer, Heritage or Valley Arts, but I do remember thinking that the US Hamers from the early to mid 90s looked amazing! As I mentioned in the vid, I've had PRS guitars I didn't get on with in the past. Glad to hear your happy with your collection. Thanks for watching!
@@MattsGAP If you ever get to play a US Hamer Studio carve top or Special (p90s ) they have better necks than early LPs thinner and not as wide, just comfortable and considering I have XL/10 size hands they’re comfortable and very playable… Your video was very good, calming in its narration and explanation…. Will look out for me in the future.
Sadly, I've never seen one in the UK, but if I ever do get the opportunity, I will snap one up. Thanks, I appreciate that! I'm planning to make a Revv D25 review once mine has arrived at Peach guitars. Unfortunately I have no idea when my preorder will turn up!
I've always wanted a Tom Anderson, after playing one many years ago. That would be my dream guitar, but just like Suhr and PRS always out of my budget range.
Hi, very interesting test both guitars. One thing I found about kemper profiles is that if I use IRs of Celestion, the sound is a much cleaner, detailed but it has the same deep. Creambacks or Greenback are some you should give a try. Believe me, its like night and day.
Excellent advice, sadly (for me) I no longer have the Kemper, but I did get a Creamback loaded 2x12 and they sound amazing. Glad you got something from the vid, thanks for watching!
Nice one Matt, not really sure what you are talking about, but I don’t care! Both guitars are beautiful and your hands they sound magical! Keep up the good work. Video production is amazing!
I'm never sure of what I'm talking about either, so that makes 2 of us! They are dream guitars for me, I thank you for the compliments, Murt! I noticed you've been doing a lot of travelling recently, you must be racking up the miles on your bike!?
@@MattsGAP Unfortunately it simply will not stay in tune! Defective hardware and fret issues also. Given it’s price, that’s unacceptable in my opinion. Suhr themselves are ignoring my emails regarding it. I’m very disappointed! PRS would probably be the one to go for.
@@MattsGAP That’s a shame! Were you able to get a replacement or refund on the Charvel? I guess the truth is, no brand is immune from building a bad guitar; it’s diminishing returns once you cross a certain price threshold. I would expected more from Suhr’s customer service however. I can’t return my PT as it was ordered as a pre-order (1 year wait time). I wouldn’t buy another Suhr - too risky!
I had the Charvel a while before I realised how awful the trem was, turned out the plating on the bridge had chipped at the contact point with the bridge post. You are correct in saying no manufacturer is immune but I have had mostly good experiences with my guitars. I'm more vigilant now, I inspect my guitars for flaws straight away, lessons learned!
Thanks for the video but I’d like to hear it simplified with pickup up selection back to back. To be honest I don’t think either guitar maker are geniuses. Their predecessors were the true geniuses ie Leo and Les, Huis and McCarty. The Smith & Suhr just improved on the original designs without amazing gains. That said, I think the PRS sounds thicker which is more favourable to my ears.
Sadly I don’t own either guitar anymore so I can’t re do the pickup demos. I do agree with what you say to a point however innovation has to build upon the previous technology so PRS/Suhr etc have imo added significant progress in the guitar’s evolution which unlike many others, Parker for example have out lasted their competition! It’s a fine balance between paying homage to the og’s and bringing something unique as I think most guitar players still want much of what the Strat, Tele and Les Paul have to offer.
Back in 1992 i bought my first PRS, a Custom 24. Later i would own a 1991 EG-1 bolt-on, then a 2003 "lawsuit era" Singlecut Trem. Then i got a S2 Mira, and finally a 2007 SC245 Artist Package. They were all fine, well-built instruments but they all shared one thing- they were never "keepers" beyond 3 years. My Suhr guitars however, are keepers. There was just something about the sounds of the PRS guitars. they sounded good to me, but not great. I think i finally figured out why. SCALE LENGTH. Every keeper guitar i have is a 25.5" scale length. When i look back on all the guitars i've not bonded with and flipped? They were all 25" scale lengths or less. Literally. And there has been an embarrassing amount that have come and gone over the years. This my anecdotal experience. Some people (me) like a very particular sound, others like all kinds of different ones. My point is this- don't rule out scale length! Maybe you'll prefer the tones that a 25" PRS offers...or maybe the sound of a 24" scale Jaguar. Sometimes we forget that scale length affects more than just feel.
You make valid points, I've had loads of guitars too and many have been the same scale and still I've not enjoyed them. Seems to me that each guitar has its own charms and I'm yet to find one that I don't get tired of after a while. Must be me because at this point there's very few I haven't played! Thanks for watching
Each scale length inspires different play styles too. I'm partial to 25.5 as well but my favorite guitars right now are 25". Kiesel is a good 25" PRS alternative to check out.
Scale lenght matters to me, however i use string guage to balance them out so they all feel similar. I'm really curious about Kiesels but I can't buy one in the UK without it being a huge risk, as if I don't like it I'm losing loads of money. I've used their builder a bunch of times but I can't pull the trigger! Thanks for watching!
@@MattsGAP ya I feel you. I thought about ordering one since the 90's then happened upon one used in a local shop a few years ago. Been my #1 since. I haven't ordered another one because I'm too indecisive.
I'm sure they're worth the risk, I'm hoping for a used one to pop up so I can try it but they're pretty rare, or someone spec'd it out in a, less than perfect way!
The difference between which neck shape alone can make you a better player, if you’re playing a guitar that doesn’t fit your hand or style of playing the guitar will have a profound effect on how well you play! Just my opinion, thanks for watching!
I’ve had 3 x USA PRS guitars 2 core custom 24s and just recently an S2 McCarty 594. All excellent and workmanship impeccable on all 3.
As you’d expect! The PRS S2 594 is on my want list but I fear it’ll be a while before one lands in my possession, thanks for watching!
@@MattsGAP I got the singlecut, it’s a real joy to play. The neck carve is just perfection.
