We need housing fast. I don't know what else we can do.
With the government hellbent on meeting and exceeding the century initiative Canada needs to have tens of thousands of mega developments with shovels in the ground. Otherwise I guess millions of new Canadians can try their luck with tents.
Thanks for sharing! It's cool to see these projects brought forward, I feel these larger-based projects are the only way to address the scale of the housing shortage. However, it's important to note that these projects take time and are not the quickest solution. Great video!
Most likely to be 5+ years before any of these developments finish construction, but they have to start somewhere or the shortage is never going to get fixed. Hopefully it means that theres still a few good years ahead for us RE investors before inventory starts picking up. Overall, I'm definitely in support of it though. HRM needs more affordable housing ASAP
Agreed. I especially like the developments on the outskirts of the peninsula since there’s more room and it’s basically creating a mini city within HRM. We need more housing so maybe these types of developments are the answer. The developments at Mic Mac mall, Penhorn Mall and West End Mall would fall under a similar category as well!
Are these proposals included in the numbers that show the shortage by 2027 ?
I can’t say for sure but I don’t think so. I’m assuming they’d be looking at current units + anything that’s actually permitted + avg builds per year. These are only in the initial proposal stages. It will take a long time before these move forward in any capacity.

These should be greenlighted immediately and ground breaking started right away. There is no way around the fact that HRM needs housing. With the sheer shortage of housing I dont think the type of housing matters that much at this point.
