A lot of companies jumping on the bandwagon to copy Protech's Magic Whiskers design!
It's better than dealing with odd random manufacture. I am beyond jazzed they are doing a magnacut!
I was impressed until I saw the price of the minnow. 😢.
$200 for a box cutter, unbelievable
It’s fine. Like every other folding knife. It flips and it cuts boxes and packages, which is what most people who buy most of these use them for.
Machaca is a delicious Mexican Breakfast. 😂
I haven't looked into where the knives featured in this video are made. However, you did put out a video recently in which you wrongly claimed that the CRKT Ritual Compacts that were just released are USA made, which they're not; they're made in China. While CRKT does have at least one USA made knife that I'm aware of (The Redemption) CRKT makes most of their stuff in China.
Hogue is making it for them in the USA
The spec sheet lists the designer as being based in Ithaca, Michigan. I would speculate that the name is an homage to his town, and "Michaca" would be pronounced "MISH-uh-kuh." Good to see CRKT doing some cool stuff!
$200 for the little crkt! Thats insane, i really dont think people are gonna fall for that
it’s a hogue. small premium american made autos tend to be expensive
I love CRKT knives. They make some really awesome knives. I plan on buying a CRKT MinamalX
CRKT is finally listening to the knife nerds like myself! Glad to have more options for USA made pokey pokeys!
I would buy the otf Livewire Magnacut for $230 in stock now.
The plunge grind thing almost feels like some kind of giant troll inside joke among designers. There is no rational reason for so many knives from all over the planet to have terrible plunges and choils. It's not complicated or difficult to do a good one. It's almost like most of the people designing knives.. have never actually sharpened one..
Kind of going off on a tangent here, but are "Ultimate Jeans," the same company that does the "Ultimate Hoodie?" Normally i wouldn't spend $100+ for a hooded sweatshirt, but it really IS the best sweatshirt I've ever worn.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is at 61-63. The Ritter RSK's in magnacut are also being ran at 61-63. Doug said on insta a while ago they were having problems hitting the 63-64 that they ran on the sprint carbon fiber RSKs in Magnacut in larger production runs. I don't know if they changed the heat treats on their Dekas or not or are still running those at 62-64.
💯 this ☝️
Mike Snody did some educating on heat treating magnacut last night on Instagram incase anyone wants more info on it.
I love the look of the minnow
Hogue Magnacut coated is 61-63, stonewashed is 62-64.
I just started wondering if knife companies purposely give a bad plunge…to create built in obsolescence. Making them harder to sharpen in order to force buying of another knife…then another…and another…lol. I dig this hobby. New and new and still more new. Great vid Bud. Thank
All the people I know that carry knives just use them until the blade is duller than the surface of a marble. Then they either buy a new one years later or continue to use it dull. Most regular people that don't collect and sharpen knives as a hobby will not sharpen it for the entirety of life of the blade more than likely. Family members that I have gifted knives to certainly don't sharpen them despite carrying one regularly. Heck, I enjoy collecting and carrying as a hobby and I really don't want to sharpen my knives unless it is absolutely necessary.
However, I think it would be cool to learn so it's not completely out of the question. It's just a choice and a preference to not sharpen for me. I baby my blades so they last longer, which essentially will make it last a very long time. I only cut light packaging (thin plastic, thin cardboard, tape, straps, fabrics). Nothing much harder or robust. The collector in me keeps me from really committing to hard use with my knives. lol
@@P.W.R. I saw a fancy knife in a mall. Leading to looking at another..then another. Like anything else you can go deep. I could not in a lifetime use all the knives I have. I’m a materialist. Always the never ending more. Bad quality fer sure.
@@just9911exactly 👏🏽
@@P.W.R.what do you do if you buy one that comes fairly dull? I’ve gotten a few that were pretty bad.
I don’t sharpen unless I need to just because I don’t want to take material off the blade more than I have to.
If you have a Dremel you can just make a notch yourself. Sucks to DIY but it’s a solution if you’re in love with a knife except for that point
I like CRKT because they make the weird stuff. I love knives with odd mechanics, and CRKT is one of the few I can count on to bring strange stuff to market. That said, of course I ordered a Michaca.
Edit: Got it in the mail today, one thing I'll note, mine has zero play, it's rock solid. That may change over time, but out of the box, it doesn't budge at all.
Part 2. I like that lil bit of cardboard cutting lately. Always incorporating cool sh:t…J
Expensive for such a small knife.
ILOVE the minnow!!
Have CRKT had a sudden rush of blood to the head and just said oh to hell with it let’s just get some quality steel out! I’m not knocking them at all I look at them in the same light as Kershaw they both have done some really good work only for them to shot themselves in the foot when it came to the blade steel but it is nice to see them waking up to what the people are looking for. Have a beautiful day J&K stay safe and healthy both🫵😘👍
Very few crkt knives interest me. I like those other crossbar knives they had hogue make about a year or so back
Good review on a couple knives I have no interest in. Thanks Jerad.
1.68” blade / 2.7” handle at 4 OUNCES! Wow…. Throwing it closed at an attacker will hurt!!! 😅
Shoutout to stassas testing methods
Not really familiar with the scale deployment. Just curious, wouldn’t there be an issue with mistaken opening, when reaching pocket for keys or such?
I'm a CRKT fan. I've had many of their designs.
I wonder sometimes if all these different knife steels are just marketing. Like how far better are they from each other? Just because one has 3% more vanadium in it compared to another, I mean what does that mean and is it noticeably different 🤷🏻♂️
There is always commentary if auto’s are cali legal but not if they are NY legal. Anyone know?
How can they justify USD 200 is beyond me.
Oh wow! Very cool!
I like that Chodie Foster but not paying $200 for it.
thanks for showing
Love the minnow but that price point is holding me back
That's really cool how that opens. Thanks Jared
I am all about those news methods of deployment!
Keep the innovation going guys!
I'm not a fan of other manufacturers using others' ideas. What a Pro-Tech Whiskers rip-off. And the entire Benchmade axis patent move that ended-it was free for all of the other DI@K jockers to use their idea. What a cheap way of doing business by stealing someone else's innovation.
then you should probably throw away every single thing you own because everything comes from another idea
Is the minnow built from the pivot side ?
Seems like it could be very unsafe😮
Some varieties of stainless steel are not magnetic 🧲
Made in China and assembled in America or manufactured and assembled in America?
Thanks.
Made in American and assembled in America.
Thanks Jerad
Well it's $60 cheaper than the protech magic2 which has the same release. Arguably better looking than the plain aluminum of the protech, and a better steel.
20:30 At least the screws are outside, meaning left and right of the clip and not underneath.
but they are under the clip, as far as your pocket is concerned
If my current hogue knives are anything to go by these will have uneven af grinds
This guy loves every knife - what's new?
lol thats funny when ive been the most critical, and have been through many battles with companies over my honesty, a review is not about love something can be good and not for me. i say what is my style and whats not but a review is just the facts so that you can determine whether or not its for you
Interesting
I honestly have never seen a knife that opens like the michaca, it's a shame i can't buy it here.
CRKT must still be really out of touch trying to give us automatic knives. Great review Jarod.
Alot of people like autos but I know what you mean manual is definitely the way to go
Damn, 300 bucks is STEEP....
😂😂 chacacacaca
Coated blade may lower that HRC.
UT does
auto 🤮
I like it but, $300?...$300😢
The Michaca has a neat way of opening. My question is if it can open in your pocket when you're working? If you have to crawl on the ground for what ever reason.
I doubt it, I'm sure it's possible if you try, but I don't think it's any riskier than a button
@@NeevesKnives got it, don't try to open with your leg intentionally when on the ground lol. Thanks Mr. Neeves!
Very interesting...
On the Shhha-MICHACA
The Minnow sorta makes me grumpy lol
$200 with those screws 🤷🏻♂️pass
