Gun-toting liberal here ;) I really like your knife content. You are my go-to source while I'm learning to sharpen. I watch almost every video, especially dig the members content.
@Neevesknives Hi Jerad. You mentioned detent tuning videos. I have a Kansept Reverie and the liner lock is quite stiff to disengage. Do you know of any way to ease that? Thanks!
Neeves I am looking for a knife under 350$ I want classy looking with all 3 deployment options what would you go for to get a classy looking knife in this price point, I like titanium with gold or blue accents I see the we roxi 3 but seems steep for a older model or is it a deal for the materials. I would think a lot of people mite be after a knife with all three early in their collection like me any help is appreciated. Thanks Mathew
The superlock was designed circa 2018 if I was not mistaken, either it was designed in 2018 or he put the design into public domain in 2018, and shark lock was kinda inspired by the superlock, with few changes in between, so is the atlas lock
Yes, it's crazy because I like most people, believed it was based on the shark lock. I did a video on it as well and someone educated me in the comments!
I saw that he is coming up with another design on Instagram I think it said he was deciding if he was going with Civivi, We or some other OEM. Probably Civivi but it looked awesome
Knife # 1 with the titanium blade caught my attention. I build custom folders and tried titanium, (6AL4V) on a liner lock once, titanium on titanium... never again. Even that alloy wouldn't hold an edge and it is the worlds worst bearing material. It wants to grab and hold everything it touches. I noticed this one had a RC of 40. When you consider that steel with a RC of 57 is considered soft , you can guess how fast a titanium blade would dull or suffer edge roll. Also for those who don't know, when you get lose lock up or over- travel with a linerlock, the best fix is a larger stop pin for the blade. Just bending the lock more changes the angle of engagement and can cause a whole list of new issues including lock stick. Williams Knives, Bare Foot Forge.
I really appreciate videos like this which bring attention to unusual knives. I am a very picky buyer, and I try to keep abreast of new releases as much as possible, but it is so easy to lose unique designs among the sea of "an knife" shaped knives. I have a damascus solstice and a spydiechef, and I am definitely getting the mcbee next, so i have a definite propensity towards the unusual.
The Deadbolt I think they call it. Was it assisted too though? I remember seeing it at Blade Show but can’t remember and I’m too lazy to check.. which makes me disappointed in myself.. but again.. too lazy to do anything about it.. truly a terrible vicious cycle..
I've had the vision fg for a couple months now and I wish that the lock wasn't so hard on the finger to depress- it leaves a big dent in the finger and hurts after fidgeting with the knife, and the "detent" is quite weak, to the point that you can deploy the knife by simply using strong downward momentum, which would usually be a big issue to many people. Not sure if it's that weak on all of them or if I just got a weak one, because it's something that I haven't heard anyone else mentioned in reviews. It's a cool knife, but if they made the lock easier on the finger and strengthened up the detent, it'd be amazing imo
I just checked mine and it will do the same thing. It seems like the retention on the detent is weak. I haven't checked my shark lock knives yet but they're next. I've seen this phenomenon on most of the crossbar lock knives I have too.
I just tried flicking it open, no thumb stud. It’s an odd, to me, flick motion that I probably would have never tried. As far as closing it I wore out both of my index finger tips initially. Now I use my index fingerNAIL and rotate my finger knuckle to lay on the back of the blade and now I can close it really fast with no fingerTIP PRESSURE. So now I have a gravity kind of flick opening method and a finger contortion closing technique. Figetastic!
10:00 that knife and its prior versions are not worth around 400. Its a joke. No one really wants sub optimal low value m390, 20cv, China Damascus or 62max rc magnacut for 400. Unless they have mental illness.
6:45 microtech, mushy action, failing locks, 57 to 59rc with horrible sharpening and low edge retention. Why do people like it? The brand image or the look? They don't care about the facts, they care about the status?
@@HarryBallsichEDCandLace: Out of the stitch and msi I had and sold the following day because of both having HRCs in the 58s and sharpening about 50 of them in the last 3 months... they are SOFT, it's soft enough that it is noticeably gummy on the stones. In that Vision, does the lockbar pop out? The WE version I had prior had that feature and I hated it. It would literally slip out 25% of the time. I asked WE about it and they were like, "Yeah it's supposed to do that." Wtf
I picked up a Defcon Fulcrum a few months back (I like weird mechanics in my folders). I love the locking mechanism, but, at least on mine, the front flipper is useless. The amount of force needed to pop the detent is just too much. My finger slides over the front flipper without opening the knife. I've practiced with it good bit and the best I can do is a partial opening with the thumb. If it where just a bit larger, or maybe not as rounded, so I could get a better grip, it would work, but it's not, and it doesn't. Rear flipper works fine though, so it's completely functional. Just wish it worked on the front as well, as it is, it just looks weird with the little useless tab sticking out. Still a good knife, but not great.
They claim that Titanium ceramic silver mix is 5x’s more edge retention at 40HRC than traditional steel at 63HRC. I’d love to know what steel they base that claim on.
