Bumper Stickers are a big no no. "Hey everybody! I have some firearms! Follow me home, then wait until there's no cars in the driveway later and break in!"
Agreed. In Canada, we have enough bureaucratic idiots trying to take guns away, the last thing you want to do is arm them with another case of stolen guns used in a crime.
23 year veteran, retired, been to all the "hot spots" in the last 20 years as both a soldier and a civilian, no tats, no patches, no military gear unless I'm down range, my go to gun at home is a 20 year old Bushmaster and a G-19. I don't play that game.
When will you people realize that being tactical is a way of life?? You think I wake up everyday saying to myself "I am going to try and look tactical today"? NO! I wake up tactical, I sleep tactical, I eat tactical, I breathe tactical. I radiate an aura of tactical everywhere I go. All the chicks want to bang me because of how tactically-manly I look. I make all the dudes gay and want to blow me(out of respect) because of how operator I am. I shop exclusively at 5.11 and Oakley. In the kitchen I have MOLLE on my apron so I can tactically prepare all of my tactical meals. This feeds my muscles the tactical nutrients needed to do operator things like C-Clamp and Isosceles. At the office I tactically reload the staplers because if I do not then it will not function properly and without my stapler I am useless, without me my stapler is useless. You have offended the Haley-Costa-Zero-Funker gods! A tactical pox on thee!
Have you watched Haley lately? I wouldn't necessarily consider him in the "Tactical Life" group, sometimes he's wearing these ridiculous TAPOUT shirts and stuff that's... not tactical. He is in the Oakley, Arc'teryx group but yeah... anywho, whatev's I guess
The book value of my truck goes up and down according to how much gas is in the tank, so who cares, right? Still, stickers are kinda goofy. I sure as hell don't have any on my Corvette.
Myth 1: YOU HAVE TO ATTEND A TACTICAL SHOOTING COURSE - you can teach yourself tactical shooting with out a course Myth 2: GEAR MUST BE FALLUJAH READY - tactical community determines what gear is cool Myth 3: THE ONLY WAY TO SHOOT A GUN IS THIS WAY - there is always more than 1 way Myth 4: A STOCK GUN ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU - Glock 19 is still great Myth 5: TATTOOS MAKE YOU MORE TACTICAL - tattoos are prevalent in advertising Myth 6: YOU CONSTANTLY NEED TO UPGRADE YOUR WEAPONRY - if it's good now it should be good in 5 years Myth 7: YOU MUST ADVERTISE YOUR BAD-ASSED-NESS - patches and gear in public Myth 8: CAMO MAKES YOU A BADASS - production looks better with camo Myth 9: YOU CAN BE AN EXPERT THROUGH VIRTUAL REALITY - just watching isn't enough Myth 10: IF YOU ARE NOT CREDENTIALED YOU ARE NOT WORTHWHILE - without combat experience your not qualified
Actual definition "Tactical": relating to, or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end... Urban dictionary: looking/behaving like an operator. (beards, ball caps, patches, gloves, glocks, shells, tight t-shirts, 5.11 pants, hiking boots, back up back up weapons.
Will a $3000 scope help you shoot better and be Tier 1 Badass? How about wearing multicam, shooting all hunched over, having tats, constantly upgrading your weaponry, trusting in virtual reality, or running a $2000 custom Glock 19? What does it mean to be "tactical" NOW? The definition probably has changed judging from the often ridiculous and repetitive magazine covers...it seems like a pretty exclusive club. Time to have some fun with the "tactical elitist" minset with some of that same criticism aimed at myself! -nutnfancy
My definition of tactical is a "tactical mindset". It's a lifestyle of being a warrior that is always working to improve one's own abilities, whether it is physical abilities, hand to hand defense, weapon defense, firearm/medical training, tactics etc...with the goal to be as prepared as possible to protect self, your loved ones and society.
I thought tactical meant fingerless gloves, way overstuffed LBE, at least one sleeve of tats, a walkie talkie (even if you're the only person), a whole new set of vocabulary, and using swear words (particularly variations of the f-word) at least twice per sentence, and pretending that 4 years serving in the Army as a diesel mechanic and serving nearly half of a 6 month tour in Iraq before being sent back on a medical constitutes being a combat vet...
+1221vito outstanding! There are a lot that leverage .mil experience to seem larger than life. Seems like the quiet ones are more legit since they're not trying to prove nothin' - doodle
The swearing, I think you have that mixed up with Irish. One of my Irish friends couldn't talk if you stopped him swearing. And really the US puritanical attitude to swearing always makes me laugh, I'm British, so I have no problem with the Irishman. But people who fantasize about slaughtering 'bad guys' and yet think that saying the F word (can't be upsetting the Americans) is the end of the world have a serious issue with their understanding of cause and effect.
Good points here. I once showed up for a tactical carbine class with a stock milspec Sig M400 with iron sights and a peep on the carry handle. Guys laughed in my face when the saw it until they saw me out shoot their fussy, tarted up ARs. I wasn't the best shot, I wasn't the worst but I did out shoot a lot of red dots simply knowing my equipment and by putting shots on target. So I agree with Nutin about not being a tactical snob. Gear doen't make you a great shooter- lots of dedicated practice and knowing your equipment does.
Wearing camo is one of those things I've always done, not because I want to be "tactical," but because I'm a metal head. A black band shirt and camo shorts has always been the uniform for fans of metal. Another shooting buddy of mine said I try to look tactical, and I just laughed. There's nothing tactical about some skateboarding shoes, camo shorts, and a Behemoth tee, even if there's a Spyderco in my pocket and a G19 tucked in my waistband.
Thank you. Most people have no conception of what civilian self-defense entails and that it will entangle you in the legal system. The tacticool stuff an officer carries, the training seminars he attends, or the things he puts up on a Facebook page can go hard with a jury, and even more so with a civilian defending their life.
Because deserts are the only places there's hard dirt or that sort of color *roll eyes* Tbh though, I've never understood the idea of weapon coloring to blend in. The environments where most everything is a few colors are few, and the shades could make you stand out as much as blend in. Maybe I just don't have enough of a functional knowledge of camoflage. I however quite like fde just for aesthetics.
The humility and common sense displayed in this video is commendable. You're watching a man whose grown over the years and hasn't been consumed with all the mindless dogma and cult of personality which sometimes plagues the community. Keep it up. You're soaring now dude.
Same kind of people who buy into the Harley Davidson fake biker outlaw look. Sorry, grandpa, but a flaming skull t-shirt doesn't make me think you ride with Sonny Barger and the Hells Angels.
+Philip Palmer -- exactly! Be tactical in mind, train as needed. But adopt the "Greyman principle" blend in, don't advertise, be helpful to your fellow man -- serve. "SheepDog"
I do get annoyed with the "go broke" mentality in the tactical crowd, your reviews do take budget into account (like ammo costs and advocating common calibers), a lot of the reviews on TH-cam are fun gun related entertainment but yeesh, some guys I've met make it seem *normal* to spend 3k for an AR, 2K for a pistol, 5k for a precision rifle, 2k for a scope, then get yourself an SBR (and 10 billet lowers just in case), steel mags, a stockpile of ammunition, body armor, night vision or thermal scope, LBE etc. IF you like expensive stuff that is ok and if you can afford it, that is totally cool but it is a bit odd for people who aren't the Punisher.
USAcarry.com did a great article on 3 guns for self defense. 1st priority Full to Mid sized double stack pistol. i.e. G19 or G17. 2nd priority Super concealable subcompact pistol. i.e. G43, G26, or S&W Shield. 3rd priority Long gun for home defense. i.e. AR15 or 12g or 20g I couldn't agree more with that mindset. Niche guns that serve a purpose. I'd only add to buy night sights for your pistols. Get two high quality holsters. Purchase a few extra mags. And your long gun should have a light and sling. That set up can be expensive. But if you can buy quality once, you'll be squared away for life. G19 $550 Holster $70 Night Sights $100 Mags $60 Shield $360 Holster $70 Mags $90 Night Sights $100 870 $350 Light $110 Sling $30 I think over time that's reasonable to acquire.
If they have the money you shouldn't have any problem with how somebody else spends their coin. This is America we have Freedom to do what we want within the law. I have friends that spend 20,000 grand on cars that sit in the garage they might drive it twice a year are they dumb?? Watch your words Hate is a little strong for people enjoying liberties.
+jacob harris why hate someone for having the money to do what they want? I may not be that far but I do intend to enjoy my liberties beyond what I supposedly "need".
Nutn. Thank you so much for your time and information sir. Finally somebody who I can relate to and is "me". Somebody who merged Camping, Backpacking, Shooting ("tactical") and Guns, Motorcycles and Flying. All the things I am and do as well as a family man and outdoorsman. Thank you VERY much sir, truly!
People who rock the 'tactacool' look make me laugh, those are the same guys who would fail a gear-check. They say to the world they're stone cold killers, but their carry gun is at home, they have no knife in their pocket, and only their ego to defend themselves.
I've never met a self-professed killer that has any experience in the matter. It's all hypothetical to them, but it tells you how much of the media narrative of 'badass' that they subscribe to. Anyone who realizes that kind of gravity of action wouldn't ever use it to gild their ego! -TD
+nutnfancy I completely agree with you. I am lucky enough to have one friend that I met through chance who was a Navy Seal. He is well spoken, quiet, and seems to think things out more than the normal Joe. I had no clue at first he was a seal at all. IT was only through working with him for several months that I began to wonder what his background was. He was "perfectionist" but with a certain style of grit. We worked closely together on projects while I worked in that field. His used his hands in a way that was kind of interesting. If you ever saw someone like this you would understand. Kind of like my 104 year old great grandmother peeling potatos. Steady, seemingly without care, precise, and confident. I began to view him as someone who would be walking away from a city on fire. I finally asked what branch he was in. He simply smiled, and said "I am a Seal. Why do you ask?" You will never know unless you ask. You will never know in the first meeting of that person. But once you began to put things together and finally ask, you usually end up with some pretty interesting stories.
Turns out he was a badass. I found out later I was one of the only people who enjoyed working with him. He tended to be brief with people. I even heard someone say "he scares the shit out of me.." We are still good friends to this day.
Man, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed your posts over the years. It's so nice to know that there are like minded bros out there. from one Tanker dude to another, Salute!
honestly nutn, your videos have inspired me to train and be proficient with my gear. your sheepdog concept has reinforced my views on what a person should be like. I am glad i came across your channel years ago because i can honestly say that the training saved my life.
"you can't do that, you were in the air force" I hear that a lot in the active army... one day I pointed out a picture on the wall in the dfac of a shooter in multicam ripping a belt through an m249... everyone assumed it was some kind of Army special forces guy, but when you look at the rank on his sleeve, it's an Air Force staff sergeant. AF security forces have to be proficient with small arms, period, even if they aren't front line combat troops... This doesn't even begin to touch personnel such as para rescue and other high level war fighters who happen to be Air Force. all branches of service have talented individuals with high levels of martial skill... and these people all came from the civilian population at some point.
I bought a piston AR15 (SR556) and I honestly don't regret it one bit. I will be the first person to admit that its heavy, but I love the thing. I also don't have anything against DI AR's :) I'll have one some day. I think it's funny how people hate on piston AR's. If anything, with piston AR's being on the market, it should just be another reason for you to buy another type of gun. But i suppose there are too many people stuck in the elitist mindset of everything they have is the best, and anything different is inferior.... sad.
I have the SR-556 also and love it. Very reliable, but just a little heavier than my DI gun. I like both kinds! And I like AK's. (which are piston guns)
Yeager will be the first to say that you can not buy any piece of gear to make you shoot better. Waisting ammo is pointless without a foundation of skills. Training teaches you what and how to practice.
Nutnfancy, you are a solid individual. Thank you for keeping it real at all times. You are one of the best gear guys out here in youtube land and I appreciate everything you do. I like that you can be serious when you need to be but have fun when you dont need to be serious. Awesome video, keep up the great work!
There's ALWAYS that one person in a group of enthusiasts. At a car meet, there'll be a guy who says "A 4 cylinder Mustang is blasphemy!" "Always use synthetic oil!" "Double clutch is better than heel-toe!" or "Japanese parts are better!" That guy is on every forum and every comment section for every group of enthusiasts.
Dude. So funny that this dynamic has played out in almost every hobby I've ever undertaken. Skateboarding: oh, you can't put your foot over the back trucks when you push. Fly fishing: that's not the right rod for the right situation. Etc. Are you having fun? Are you accomplishing your goals? So funny how some don't realize how much they're being scammed in gear-driven hobbies. Dead on as always, Nutn!
I'm a civilian that's going to (hopefully) be going into the police force next year and I refuse to wear anything that's extremely tactical or do mod my weapons to be extremely tactical. The most I'll do is wear Grunt Style shirts like the 7.62 one or the 'ForeFather' shirts just because I like the look of them and cause they're comfortable. I never wear anything related to a branch or directly to the military because I feel like it's disrespectful to them since I'm just a citizen.
Check out nineline apparel.. Made entirely by veterans and their immediat family.. Kinda pricey but real nice stuff... I can justify spending a tad more in their stuff knowing it goes to a good cause and people who deserve more than my money.
I have a hard time deciding which color of 5.11 pants goes well with a concealed carry badge clipped on my belt. Today's tactical dilemma involved what flavor of ice cream an operator would eat in public at Rita's. I finally decided on coffee flavor because the tan color complimented my flat dark earth T-shirt. The ice cream had to be in a cone so my gun hand would be free in case of an active shooter threat.
+Jeremy Hopper I take all of my tactical advice from Dead pool. I wear a red shirt so my opponent doesn't know he's shot me and dark brown pants for..... you know
Hahahahahaha, concealed carry badge! When I attended the Texas DPS CHL Instructor's course, the program director (a Texas State Trooper), actually talked about the people that wear those "badges." He said, "That don't impress me much." He went on to say that displaying such a badge was a good way to get charged with impersonating an officer. I would LOVE to see a dipshit wearing one of those badges get jammed up in that manner. THAT would make my day!
I like how you state they say "in the tactical community "this is the way to shoot" I personally don't care how you shoot as long as you hit the target. I love it how you put them on blast
I really enjoyed this video. You hit the nail on the head so many times, I found myself nodding my head at every turn. Great job! I'll add #11, which is unique to the TH-cam era. That involves guys who make a video "reviewing" a gun or piece of equipment when it is clear from their content that they have not even taken the time to understand how the firearm or item is supposed to work. Closely related is when these same guys think a gun is the greatest thing since sliced bread and tout it as the only choice, but when you did a bit you find out they have not really experienced other firearms and have no basis for comparison. Sorry, just my little rant. That aside, thumbs up for a really good video, Sir.
Although I don't agree with everyting said, I rally appreciate this kind of honesty and "reallness" that makes your channel so special. Many of your points are spot on.
Semper Fi, 26 years as a grunt in the Marine Corps taught me to have favorite systems, gear and habits. (Some good habits and a few of not so good habits) I love your channel. I can't stress size and weight, reliability, and simplicity enough. Continue to march, and always be having Fun!
I've been a subscriber since 2010 when I went to bass pro shopping for a knife. I saw the sog flash and went looking for a review then found nutnfancy's video. I've been a fan ever since. I love your philosophy's bro, your approach to shooting, and priorities in life. Keep on rocking.
GREAT video! I know several guys who are almost 100% "tactical" as you point out in this video and they are STINKO when it comes to performance. I smiled and laughed through most of the 45 minutes here as you are RIGHT ON! The person who is SERIOUS is usually incognito. The most effective at performance is a person that is just a crowd blend-in. I am glad you thus - long over due.
Great video. I play in a few different worlds - guns, motorcycles, hiking, camping, cooking, and beer brewing. Some of the attitudes you address are common in all of them. I call them gear snobs, and they seem to be prevalent in all of my hobbies. I've fallen victim to it myself, usually soon after entering a hobby. I think a lot of it is down to the desire to 'keep up with the Joneses', something made worse by the internet where we can present an idealized/perfected picture of ourselves. It seems like the folks who stick with a hobby for a long time grow out of it, although there will always be jerks.
He spends a bunch of time preaching to the choir. I don't pay attention to a lot of his content because its just feeding on his audience's sentiments for views. He tries too hard to be cool, way too hard. Trying to brand the "athletic shooter" thing is garbage. Up-sides, he can shoot and some of his content is good. He does post nice pictures of guns/gear and his reviews aren't bad. His work with the NRA is appreciated. Overall, I like him more than i dislike him. I'd say his biggest downfalls are that he's a try-hard and is arrogant. His biggest upsides are his creative use of metaphors and clear, concise language.
I find his predilection for hyperbole a detriment. I get it though he has two jobs working for the NRA. One is to be their token black guy to point to for CNN interviews and sell the image of well spoken safe responsible firearms owners to the general public at large. The second is to sell the image of "cool" within the firearms community and that's fine I'm not here to undermine that. The gun community needs his services. Just be aware of what you're being sold.
Speaking for myslef, i am a big fan!!! He represents the comunity, and he represents it well. Well edited videos, cool looking people, nice music... A lot of fun to watch. He has totally different aproach than Nutn but I don't mind it. I really like both. Both are super cool and show the non-gun people who we are.
Food for thought. As an old backcountry SAR team member and a civilian firearms enthusiast in Idaho, I hear where your coming from. Old habits and attitudes die hard. I still wear BDU's and have a multipule Go bags set up for the seasons. I save my camos for when I am trying to become one with the bush. What ever your doing ,it's like you say,"practice, practice, practice". Thumbs up to your channel.
Yes it still exist. The unassuming skinny in the navy seals. I have a colt 6920 with holosun red dot. Just a basic rifle I can shoot 200yds standing. People ask me what gun I have. I tell them what I have. They'll usually say ohh that must by why be shooting so good because he has a Colt rifle. No it's because I've practiced and it got easier for me overtime.
This one is doing my head in. Firing from a barricade lying on the ground (on your back) so that the rifle is being fired horizontally. I know the bullet is falling as soon as it leaves the barrel & it travels in an arc to the target but if you are firing sideways is there 2 forces to consider? Holding under to cancel out the elevated angle wrt the scope & holding above the intended point of impact for gravity? Can you help me Nutn? Where are you aiming to get hits on target when laying down on your side?
On #4: I played goalie in an ice hockey league for years. I bought some entry-level gear to start with, then bought the stuff the pros use. I still sucked, but at least I knew the gear wasn't the problem. Some people need to have the best stuff to realize they are troubleshooting their competency.
If someone wants to be tactical and wear this and that and buy this over that. So what? Do what you want, screw the opinion of others. I laugh at the people that make fun of others as if they're superior.
+TheTransmundane Nutn said he cringes when he sees a guy in 5.11 pants. candor jacket. a moral patch that says kill em all and tac boots at Apple bees. who cares what the other person wishes to wear. it comes off as smug or elitism as if he's higher than that.
"Coming from an Chair Force POG..." LOL, hit the nail on the head Nutn. I actually make extra effort to stay inconspicuous. My range bag is a generic duffle and my ammo is in a tool bag. Thanks for your service, both military and TNP. Ever in the northern Nevada area?
I've been a gun nerd since 2009 and your videos are the main reason I got into carrying everyday. As well as buying a rifle to "run and gun" with my friends. This video is spot on with the tactical trends and groups. for a guy like me the rifles, and tactical training classes are like Cosplay with guns. The percentage of me using these things is probably less than 3% but I try and pick up tactics and skills along the way.
On the training topic, you are 100% correct. I've been to a handful of classes. You don't have to go to become a good shooter. The classes I've gone to teach you practical skills to fight with your gun in civilian life. You become a good shooter practicing in your own.
OMG! I've personally experienced everything you covered on that video! Right on! You're telling it as is! I was the only one on forums warning people to stay away from the AR piston conversions because the AR was never designed to deal with the changes in forces that destroys the upper, trashes the buffer tube, and prematurely brake bolts!
Great video - a lot of truth... When I got out of the Navy I landed a job as a County Paramedic. On my first day on the job, the first thing my training officer said to me was, "eyes and ears open, mouth shut." I learned how to be a good Paramedic from that salty old bastard. That philosophy has carried me though life - and it definitely applies when at the range running carbine drills with like-minded friends. Don't tell me how bad ass you are; words are meaningless. Actions, not words.
its true about the joking around and humor, as a first responder I even make jokes during medicals and stuff, you have to keep it light, detach yourself from the situation, and take it all with a level head. Edit: Tier Juan
Hey Nutin, let me ask this for the guy who wants a chest rig for just in case not tactical but practical. I like the chest mounted pistol that you advocate but what should the mag count be? I'm thinking 3 ar-15 mags and 3 pistol mags. Like you said for short engagements would that be sufficient? I have people telling me more are needed but again weight vs mobility and practicality.
Hi, I'm Nutnfancy. I break all the molds. I'm different and unique. I'm so sick of everyone trying to be so tactical. Ignore the part of the video where I refer to the woods behind my house as my "area of operations." Ya know, the area of operations where I run those NON tactical shooting drills in full BDU with body armor. But yeah, anyways, I'm not tacticool at all. Now run along... I've got Glocks and Benchmades to review.
My personal philosophy is there are different kinds of tactical. In the field, in public, at home. Blending in every environment, not standing out too much while maintaining your person (beliefs, style, etc), always on the alert, calm collected and prepared to act in a time of necessity.
last time I went I realized it is a very perishable skill I used to be able hit 3 9mm rounds in a 3 inch diameter from about 40 yards with a glock 17 now it's about a 16 inch diameter 25 yards away
+Tactical Seadog money wasn't the problem I used to shoot at my grandfather's property cause he had 80 acres and when he died my dad had to sell it and I didn't really like public ranges
+Tactical Seadog I'm assuming because my age but I get dirty looks when I go to the range and the people who work at the closest range to me give me dirty looks when I walk in
+NovemberFlag __ Yes most do. And it depends on the group and leadership. I've been in the Militia for over 4 years. And we do lots of different training.
+Wade Wilson what's wrong with an organized militia? isn't that what is outlined in the second amendment? make fun of them for being organized and trained, see what they are willing to do for you if SHTF.
anon amous a militia is a group of citizens, not in the military, that form into a psuedo-military unit in a time of need to accomplish a goal: like kicking the English off the continent. THAT is what the second amendment is for. Your definition of a militia is actually just militia-PRACTICE. So yeah, I'm going to make fun of you for dressing up for battle every weekend and spending every dollar you have on the next version of camo because you are never going to be a real militia or see a real fight. You are actors.
Getting burned out on these videos. Okay, we get it. You're anti tactical. You go against all the trends. Unlike all of us, you're not a sheep. You do realize you are public enemy #1 when it comes to being tacticool, right? You literally referred to the woods behind your house as your "area of operations" in this very video. You rate every single weapon you ever review on whether it's "go to war" capable. You run shooting drills with tactical weapons in full BDU with body armor. You should maybe stop worrying about what everyone else does. I'm not sure where you get this crap from. I see it the exact opposite. The vast majority of people are much quicker to call someone out for being too "tacticool" rather than not tactical enough. You're not going against the trend, because right now the trend is anti tactical. If your buddy shows up to the range with his new AR all tacked out, he's going to hear about it. I enjoy your videos, but stop being so dramatic and acting like you're just this go against the grain anti tactical guy. You got famous reviewing Sigs, Glocks, and Benchmade. You can't even pull out a Benchmade these days without being shamed or called a wanna be operator. Wake up, nutn.
I think this is kind of unfair. Nutn said early on in this video that he's kinda responsible because he's done the run-n-guns with multicam gear. And, even admitted how he rates guns on their durability feeds into this idea.
Nut can shoot, I'll give him that, but he is no operator. He can "run-n-gun, but he is not on par with the majority of training facilities and why they shoot the way they do.
LMAO at going through that training course with the Mini14 as a slap in the face to those laughing at you because they thought it couldn't be done. Nice work. That's worth a champagne toast all by itself!
would you say that revolvers are in the same place right now as DI ar's a couple years back? or in your opinion it should be retired if you are a civilian/LEO?
Man Nutnfancy, you said it the best "don't judge a book by its cover." My personal experience stems from my Jiu Jitsu training. We have a lot of guys in class that don't "look" the part, but will easily drag you around the mat and put the beat down on you. I made the mistake once and learned the hard way to never do it again. Now I treat everyone like they could be a sheep dog or wolf because you never know.
great comment on the tactical tattoos!!!!!! im a navy vet and 25 yr tattoo artist......just let me know if ya ever need any TACTICAL TATTOOS to make you a better shooter!!!! great video....i like how real you are and also that you are NOT an elitist.....i watched your video on medium power scopes...you are always informative and up to date,,,,,and you present ALL options from the budget minded to the ultra expensive with a great opinion of what works for you and why......keep up the great work!!!
scare tactics... you think men in combat actually WANT to kill people? no. If you're in the military with the ambition to "kill dem dun turrorezts" then you're clearly too childish and reckless to be in combat.
+FishingTheGreatLakes ... You really believe that infantrymen, SF cats, MARSOC dudes, SEALs, etc don't want to kill bad people? Get real. Training hard for something you don't want to do doesn't make sense now does it?
People say that my 1998 chevy cavalier is tan. But its actually flat dark earth.
Asking a gun instructor if you need to take a class is like asking a car salesman if you need a new car.
Bumper Stickers are a big no no. "Hey everybody! I have some firearms! Follow me home, then wait until there's no cars in the driveway later and break in!"
Couldn't agree more. Those magpul and Nra stickers I got? Threw them in the junk drawer
Agreed. In Canada, we have enough bureaucratic idiots trying to take guns away, the last thing you want to do is arm them with another case of stolen guns used in a crime.
i slap those to my laptop, gun cases, or my trunk(think footlocker but really big and not for travel).
Or a way of saying " hey come vandalize my car"
Plus, if you drive like a jerk you give your cause a bad name.
+thesicknessism oh man you had me for a sec! It took me 1/3 of the way until I figured it out. :) doodle
nutnfancy Ha! Awesome. Stay dangerous.
Make sure to keep a C-Clamp on that stapler! And keep a high speed paperclip as a back-up, but only until you can get back to your stapler!
I threw a surefire x-1000 on my stapler.
"Tattoos are a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling." - 9th Grade Woodshop Teacher Mr. Fennwick
Lol that was a Jimmy Buffet song
When I see a Yeti cooler sticker on the back window of a truck I laugh. It's a cooler......
if I see any person over 18 with stickers on their car or truck I shake my head
I'll just ruin what little value my car still has by putting stickers on it.
It's a tactical cooler get it right!
The book value of my truck goes up and down according to how much gas is in the tank, so who cares, right? Still, stickers are kinda goofy. I sure as hell don't have any on my Corvette.
Bonus points if the truck is lifted ONLY at the front, lol. Very common in SC.
I'm so tactical...
I have a full body tattoo of James Yeager on me.
So top that!!!
You win!
You win!
You win!
I'm so tactical, my AR has a rail mounted Humvee on it!
Is his mouth your belly button so, you know ;)
Myth 1: YOU HAVE TO ATTEND A TACTICAL SHOOTING COURSE - you can teach yourself tactical shooting with out a course
Myth 2: GEAR MUST BE FALLUJAH READY - tactical community determines what gear is cool
Myth 3: THE ONLY WAY TO SHOOT A GUN IS THIS WAY - there is always more than 1 way
Myth 4: A STOCK GUN ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU - Glock 19 is still great
Myth 5: TATTOOS MAKE YOU MORE TACTICAL - tattoos are prevalent in advertising
Myth 6: YOU CONSTANTLY NEED TO UPGRADE YOUR WEAPONRY - if it's good now it should be good in 5 years
Myth 7: YOU MUST ADVERTISE YOUR BAD-ASSED-NESS - patches and gear in public
Myth 8: CAMO MAKES YOU A BADASS - production looks better with camo
Myth 9: YOU CAN BE AN EXPERT THROUGH VIRTUAL REALITY - just watching isn't enough
Myth 10: IF YOU ARE NOT CREDENTIALED YOU ARE NOT WORTHWHILE - without combat experience your not qualified
So no camo face paint at he range?
Actual definition "Tactical": relating to, or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end...
Urban dictionary: looking/behaving like an operator. (beards, ball caps, patches, gloves, glocks, shells, tight t-shirts, 5.11 pants, hiking boots, back up back up weapons.
lmfao back up back up
*Kip Dynamite's voice.
Yeah, I just bought a pair of 5.11 pants.
So I guess you could say things are pretty serious.
If it's not made of 1000D Cordura, it will rip instantly
Are titanium chopsticks considered tactical?
General Nappa Do they attach to a picatinny rail? Are they black?
Finally someone talks about this. People who carry whine about weight but want to carry 20lbs of gear and guns
I rather be the gray man.
...or be the "Slender man" he's really scary.
Exactly!
+Sam Pitt blend in. dont stand out. no tactical clothes that may draw the eyrs of those aware.
I'm so gray the power rangers attacked me last week.
Everyone wants to be a Grunt, until its time to do Grunt shit.
+Joshua Randall bingo bro!
I'm not tactical, just tacky.
Tackycool - I like that. Better yet - Tackyfool.
Thanks for all the comments everyone, but this one is now archived! We'll see you in the newer vids. :) Doodle
Thank you. Most people have no conception of what civilian self-defense entails and that it will entangle you in the legal system. The tacticool stuff an officer carries, the training seminars he attends, or the things he puts up on a Facebook page can go hard with a jury, and even more so with a civilian defending their life.
You have to love the guys with FDE everything yet they live nowhere near a desert.
Because deserts are the only places there's hard dirt or that sort of color *roll eyes*
Tbh though, I've never understood the idea of weapon coloring to blend in. The environments where most everything is a few colors are few, and the shades could make you stand out as much as blend in. Maybe I just don't have enough of a functional knowledge of camoflage. I however quite like fde just for aesthetics.
It will blend in better than black will!!
I colored my AR in gray with a concrete pattern on it. It fits in just nicely.
I have FDE swim trunks. What's wrong with that? :)
totally me, i live in Wi with fde guns. I thought it would be nice to have a different color AR and Glock vs everyone i know.(black everything)
Also...could we get a TNP Tier 5 Operator patch? :P
Am I the only one that progressively put on more and more Crye gear as the video went on?
Why is my truck now Duracoated Multicam...
+ProSTEEL RAIN You mean rhino lined and then duracoated
+TheTyrial86 Already been lined! :)
HAHAHHAHA!
Walk softy and carry a big stick. Don't be tacticool.
well, said bro
All these guys wearing the "shoot me first" jackets and pants... I call them "tactifools"
3rd priority Long gun for home defense. i.e. AR15 or 12g or 20g
I couldn't agree more with that mindset. Niche guns that serve a purpose. I'd only add to buy night sights for your pistols. Get two high quality holsters. Purchase a few extra mags. And your long gun should have a light and sling. That set up can be expensive. But if you can buy quality once, you'll be squared away for life.
G19 $550
Holster $70
Night Sights $100
Mags $60
Shield $360
Holster $70
Mags $90
Night Sights $100
870 $350
Light $110
Sling $30
I think over time that's reasonable to acquire.
Cool, if I can find that article I will check it out, the site looks like they got a lot of neat articles, thanks for the recommendation :)
Dont argue semantics.
You forgot the most important myth.
The more attachment points your sling has, the more operatory you become.
I agree
Well said.
I just clip on like 40 sling attachments for maximum attachibility
+Tom Olofsson haha good one, that was really funny Tom.
Nope . . . beeeeg watch, eh?
-TD
Great pic of doodle wearing the WWII bomber jacket sporting the M1 Garrand. That looks like some really fun tacticool!
Why do you ask?"
You will never know unless you ask.
Got to be a grey man. All that tac bs makes you stand out.
The real guys, the "badasses", rarely talk about their experiences and never brag about their experiences.
My 5.11 flip flops are what the navy seals wear.
Man, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed your posts over the years. It's so nice to know that there are like minded bros out there. from one Tanker dude to another, Salute!
AHHHH MAN!! does this mean i can't wear my Star Gate SG1 patches when i eat at Applebee's anymore?
I was soo bored, caught up on all my TNP vids, and then this pops up! And it's feature length! :) THANK YOU!
When I leave for the day to work, I never know if I should take my tactical purse or my zombie purse.
honestly nutn, your videos have inspired me to train and be proficient with my gear. your sheepdog concept has reinforced my views on what a person should be like. I am glad i came across your channel years ago because i can honestly say that the training saved my life.
"you can't do that, you were in the air force"
I hear that a lot in the active army... one day I pointed out a picture on the wall in the dfac of a shooter in multicam ripping a belt through an m249... everyone assumed it was some kind of Army special forces guy, but when you look at the rank on his sleeve, it's an Air Force staff sergeant.
But i suppose there are too many people stuck in the elitist mindset of everything they have is the best, and anything different is inferior.... sad.
My buddy has the same rifle. I drool every time.
I have the SR-556 also and love it. Very reliable, but just a little heavier than my DI gun. I like both kinds! And I like AK's. (which are piston guns)
Roger that, so do we. An LWRC remains in inventory not to mention the MCX, Minis, SU16s, and many AKs. -nutn actual
I used to be a proponent of DI over Piston until I bought my LWRC IC-E. Now I grab that rifle over my other ARs. I love it.
I can't stand those people, "If I don't do it,it doesn't work" People on their ego trips
Everyone of these myths described James Yeager to a T lol
Yeager will be the first to say that you can not buy any piece of gear to make you shoot better. Waisting ammo is pointless without a foundation of skills. Training teaches you what and how to practice.
P.S. The scale of importance is as follows: Mindset, tactics, skill, gear.
Nutnfancy, you are a solid individual. Thank you for keeping it real at all times. You are one of the best gear guys out here in youtube land and I appreciate everything you do. I like that you can be serious when you need to be but have fun when you dont need to be serious. Awesome video, keep up the great work!
Usually the best guys to serve with joke, smoke, watch Dragonball Z and quote 80s movies.
There's ALWAYS that one person in a group of enthusiasts. At a car meet, there'll be a guy who says "A 4 cylinder Mustang is blasphemy!" "Always use synthetic oil!" "Double clutch is better than heel-toe!" or "Japanese parts are better!"
That guy is on every forum and every comment section for every group of enthusiasts.
Tactical is functional and practical, not like these gear q*eers these days.
ya that beats tacticool.
I generally listen to my elders.
Nutn, I love your honesty. Some times it cracks me up, some times it hits home, some times I flat out disagree, but its always entertaining.
irony.
this is the gun channel that wears the most tacticool gear on youtube
He acknowledges that in the video.
+Jeremy Hopper
I take all of my tactical advice from Dead pool.
I wear a red shirt so my opponent doesn't know he's shot me and dark brown pants for..... you know
dude same problem here.
Hahahahahaha, concealed carry badge!
When I attended the Texas DPS CHL Instructor's course, the program director (a Texas State Trooper), actually talked about the people that wear those "badges."
He said, "That don't impress me much." He went on to say that displaying such a badge was a good way to get charged with impersonating an officer.
I would LOVE to see a dipshit wearing one of those badges get jammed up in that manner. THAT would make my day!
I never got any tats because I never wanted any identifying marks. Just in case. . . . . .
Im tactically fat ..... Its a way of life hahahahaha
I'm in shape... round is a shape
I like how you state they say "in the tactical community "this is the way to shoot"
I personally don't care how you shoot as long as you hit the target.
I love it how you put them on blast
Was gonna sleep Nutn, I blame you partially for my insomnia.
I know right!
Awesome! Late night upload.... Time to go grab a bowl of Wheaties... lol
nopers on Wheaties, I'm poor so I get unlucky darns ,😉
Ill have 10,000 thru my AR in 2021 if my 100 rounds a month stays steady.
tattoo-cool
GREAT video! I know several guys who are almost 100% "tactical" as you point out in this video and they are STINKO when it comes to performance. I smiled and laughed through most of the 45 minutes here as you are RIGHT ON! The person who is SERIOUS is usually incognito. The most effective at performance is a person that is just a crowd blend-in. I am glad you thus - long over due.
I never want to be seen as tactical person. I not want to make impression as I am a treat. When the time comes we will see what's happens!
P.D. good video
How do you like the athletic shooter like colion noir
He spends a bunch of time preaching to the choir. I don't pay attention to a lot of his content because its just feeding on his audience's sentiments for views. He tries too hard to be cool, way too hard. Trying to brand the "athletic shooter" thing is garbage. Up-sides, he can shoot and some of his content is good. He does post nice pictures of guns/gear and his reviews aren't bad. His work with the NRA is appreciated. Overall, I like him more than i dislike him. I'd say his biggest downfalls are that he's a try-hard and is arrogant. His biggest upsides are his creative use of metaphors and clear, concise language.
hi I agree about your speech, for my to summary "comsumerism"
I find his predilection for hyperbole a detriment. I get it though he has two jobs working for the NRA. One is to be their token black guy to point to for CNN interviews and sell the image of well spoken safe responsible firearms owners to the general public at large. The second is to sell the image of "cool" within the firearms community and that's fine I'm not here to undermine that. The gun community needs his services. Just be aware of what you're being sold.
Personally I stop following him closely when he partnered with the NRA and stop making walking dead reviews but that's me :P
1913 rails fucking every where
Ha Ha! Rails on scope mounts! I don't like quad rail hand-guards.
bought a quad rail for my ar 10 and now regret it :(
MrSnoCone the more rail space the better. Even if you don't use it you must have more.
So true
+TheTransmundane Nutn said he cringes when he sees a guy in 5.11 pants. candor jacket. a moral patch that says kill em all and tac boots at Apple bees. who cares what the other person wishes to wear. it comes off as smug or elitism as if he's higher than that.
You misses the point...
+crashandburnbirner Not at all.
People like yourself then?
"Coming from an Chair Force POG..." LOL, hit the nail on the head Nutn. I actually make extra effort to stay inconspicuous. My range bag is a generic duffle and my ammo is in a tool bag. Thanks for your service, both military and TNP. Ever in the northern Nevada area?
tac·ti·cal\ˈtak-ti-kəl\
adjective
: of, relating to, or used for a specific plan that is created to achieve a particular goal in war, politics, etc.
You can be Tacticool without a Beard
My favorite patch "Beard the F**K Up
No you can't!
Sorry, but no you cant
No, you cannot.
On the training topic, you are 100% correct. I've been to a handful of classes. You don't have to go to become a good shooter. The classes I've gone to teach you practical skills to fight with your gun in civilian life. You become a good shooter practicing in your own.
24 dislikes have barbwire tattoos.
OMG! I've personally experienced everything you covered on that video! Right on! You're telling it as is! I was the only one on forums warning people to stay away from the AR piston conversions because the AR was never designed to deal with the changes in forces that destroys the upper, trashes the buffer tube, and prematurely brake bolts!
James Yeager hates this video!
10:39 "and its really easy to know if its working for you because you're hitting what you are shooting at" TNP
Keep em coming. You do great work.
Giving clues about your 'skill' is tactical 'mistake' :)
Great video - a lot of truth...
When I got out of the Navy I landed a job as a County Paramedic.
On my first day on the job, the first thing my training officer said to me was, "eyes and ears open, mouth shut."
I learned how to be a good Paramedic from that salty old bastard.
I used to shoot 2 or 3 times a month the last 2 years I think I've gone 3 times
last time I went I realized it is a very perishable skill I used to be able hit 3 9mm rounds in a 3 inch diameter from about 40 yards with a glock 17 now it's about a 16 inch diameter 25 yards away
Why did you stop going? was it getting too expensive, or it just didn't interest you that much anymore?
+Tactical Seadog money wasn't the problem I used to shoot at my grandfather's property cause he had 80 acres and when he died my dad had to sell it and I didn't really like public ranges
+vlad morozov ohh verry sad to hear that. i from very limited experience understand the feeling of disliking (most) public ranges.
+Tactical Seadog I'm assuming because my age but I get dirty looks when I go to the range and the people who work at the closest range to me give me dirty looks when I walk in
My wife just said, "Oh no!" When nutn released this video during dinner.
Guess I'll have to wait a few minutes lol
@nutnfancy Where does the Organized Militia fall in this you think?
Good question... do those guys actually do anything?
+NovemberFlag __ Yes most do. And it depends on the group and leadership. I've been in the Militia for over 4 years. And we do lots of different training.
They prance around calling themselves tactical, of course.
You are actors.
my mindset has always been "function over form", or another good way to approach things "what does it do, how well does it do it"
Getting burned out on these videos.
All the cops, military and training facilities are dripping with tactical bullshit and credentials... AND they're assholes. He's right
Rick Stark, by your comment I can tell your a little butt hurt by this video, probably because your the exact image of what he's talking about.
Rick gets it. Thank you
Hey, Nutn, what is that camo pattern on your AR at 21:48? Looks pretty cool.
How come cops waited for 3 hours to enter the Pulse night club ? People were being slaughtered in there.
They were being #Tactical ?
They were acquiring sheep to meet the terrorist's demands.
No courage.
if the gun laws were not so shit, would of been taken care of a lot easier. Hilary better not win the election or we're done.
swat teams or srt train to set up a perimeter on incident sites.
LMAO at going through that training course with the Mini14 as a slap in the face to those laughing at you because they thought it couldn't be done. Nice work. That's worth a champagne toast all by itself!
Nutnfancy has really pink lips. They look healthy.
Really? Must admit I never really noticed
would you say that revolvers are in the same place right now as DI ar's a couple years back? or in your opinion it should be retired if you are a civilian/LEO?
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 lol
Man Nutnfancy, you said it the best "don't judge a book by its cover."
My personal experience stems from my Jiu Jitsu training. We have a lot of guys in class that don't "look" the part, but will easily drag you around the mat and put the beat down on you. I made the mistake once and learned the hard way to never do it again. Now I treat everyone like they could be a sheep dog or wolf because you never know.
Should be ...HOW TO STAND OUT AND DIE..... lots of very stupid people, that wants to play Rambo.....
great comment on the tactical tattoos!!!!!! im a navy vet and 25 yr tattoo artist......just let me know if ya ever need any TACTICAL TATTOOS to make you a better shooter!!!! great video....i like how real you are and also that you are NOT an elitist.....i watched your video on medium power scopes...you are always informative and up to date,,,,,and you present ALL options from the budget minded to the ultra expensive with a great opinion of what works for you and why......keep up the great work!!!
I always hate mentioning this...1.2 million rounds + per kill in Afghanistan. ( so your only qualified if you've been in combat???) it's embarrassing.
most of that was shot at the range
you realize the military shoots more at paper than at people right?
scare tactics... you think men in combat actually WANT to kill people?
+FishingTheGreatLakes
If you don't want to kill, THEN you are not suited for combat.
Your statement makes absolutely no sense
How do you spell the name of that place you went to? The place you name at 12:51 of this video. Fludsy, Floodsie, Fludsi? I can't seem to find it.
