Did you know this song was written by Paul McCartney about the Civil Rights Movement in the US in 1968 ?

      That is completely false.
Blackbird is about a certain black girl living in the UK.
Rather than making things up, why not simply Google it?
It was used by the Civil Rights Movement, but had nothing to do with them.

@@logicalnotes5007 did you even google it????? Wikipedia: Blackbird (Beatle song). There is a quote from Paul McCartney about the lyrics. It isn't about a certain girl in the UK. Take some time and read it. It is absolutely about civil rights.

I’m not a big fan of Wikipedia, in fact it is one of the last places I look, but I did google it as I had mentioned. After doing further research on this, it is clear that the source material I read was wrong. There is a video on TH-cam where Paul explains the meaning of Blackbird. And you’re completely correct. My bad.

Do you understand that 'made it their own" means they translated a work into their own style? Herbie Hancock performed the song for McCartney when McCartney was award the Gershwin Prize. Hancock didn't write it, either, and he made it his own.

    • @Agharta99
      @Agharta99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

She made it her own because she stamped her Soul on it which is the hardest thing to do. I will go and check out Herbie's version as he's a genius but I very much doubt he bared his Soul so clearly as Ms Keys did. Peace.
Edit. Just listened to Herbie with Corinne Bailey Rae and wondering why you didn't even mention her name!
Herbie was on piano on the first Jazz album I liked (Four & More) and I remember clearly the first time I heard Corinne singing Like A Star live on the BBC which was before she'd even released a single. Never heard her live but heard Herbie with the reformed Headhunters.
Herbie's arrangement he could do in his sleep but Alicia has passion.
One note of passion is worth a hundred chords. She rocked it from the bottom of her gorgeous Soul. Amen sister. x

I grew up in Montreal with lots of afro Caribbean kids. She grew up in Ontario without that exposure. So we sing old school soul and funk as well as the Beatles and the Stones.

Yeah, very different. She can sing and he can't. Slight difference! She has incredible expression, he has never had much expression. She is depth. He was a clown that accidentally got popular. Along with the rest of those idiots. The Beatles were the most overrated musical group in history. Just talentless hacks that couldn't play if their life depended on it. Lucky for them it didn't.

And this song is well known for guitar.Others also comparing with Sarah Mclaughlin's version which is also very beautiful no doubt nevertheless there r big differece though. Self accompanied and.... a second party accompaniment. Weigh that. All i'm saying is lets not compare. What fits perfect for u, may not be for someone else.

MajiAkasha You are wrong. The only thing the song by Nina Simone has in common with Black Bird by the Beetles is the title. The lyrics and the composition of the music are totally different. It is a different song all together. So, it is sad that you wanted to assume things and or throw lies out there like that. Here are the lyrics by Nina. I love classic jazz and soul.
      Lyrics by Nina Simone
      Why you wanna fly Blackbird
      You ain't ever gonna fly
      Why you wanna fly Blackbird
      You ain't ever gonna fly
No place big enough for holding
All the tears you're gonna cry
Cause your mama's name was lonely
And your daddy's name was pain
And he called you little sorrow
      Cus you'll never love again
      Why you wanna fly Blackbird
      You ain't ever gonna fly
      Why you wanna fly Blackbird
      You ain't ever gonna fly
You ain't go no one to hold you
You ain't got no one to care
      If you'd only understand dear
      Nobody wants you anywhere
So why you wanna fly Blackbird
      You ain't ever gonna fly
So why you wanna fly Blackbird
      You ain't ever gonna fly
You ain't go no one to hold you
You ain't got no one to care
