Nice review,Blake! I've actually had this pen for several months now, but never got around to inking until today! I'm a big fan of Japanese fine nibs, so my M205 is an extra fine, too. So, to say the least, finding your video was quite timely!
Thank you for this review! I love the Pelikan M205 pens. This M205 Demonstrator is one, i hope to get soon. Actually it would be number 8 in my M200/205 collection ;-) After i bought the adorable Olivine and Smoky Quartz editions, i couldnt help but needed to buy the Moonstone, Star Ruby, Black, White and the Blue Demonstrator also. These pens fit my hand perfectly even unposted. They are so quick to screw and unscrew in comparison to other pens like my TWSBIs. And the nibs are all at least very good! Some even fantastic! The EF, M and B nibs i have offer a great level of flex, like yours. For some reason the F nibs dont. The 14k gold nib of an M605 fits in this pens also, if you like to try. When you compare these Pelikans to the TWSBI Eco or Diamond 580, they are a bit overpriced, but in my experience the variation in the writing quality is bigger in the TWSBI pens. They are all at least quite good, some even awesome, but Pelikan seems to be a bit more consistent. However, in the end its a question of taste, i think. If you like the looks and feel if your writing instrument, writing is more enjoyable. The Pelikans look great, feel good, write good. Price is less important, when you have something in your hand, that you love to use!
Thanks for the comment Marco! I agree with everything you are saying. Pelikan makes a great pen and I do generally prefer Pelikan nibs over the nibs we get on TWSBIs. I also love the classic style of Pelikan pens. Like you said it is really down personal preference.
I have this pen that I found at a thrift store, a great find. I love the extra fine crisp writing nib. The size is perfect for my small hands. It’s a great addition to my collection. I will be looking for some other nibs now. Could you do a review of Pelican nibs? Great video, thank you.
Thanks for the comment! That's pretty cool that you found one at a thrift store. Pelikan makes nibs in a lot of different point sizes and I only have a small handful so I wouldn't be able to do any sort of complete review of Pelikan nibs. I would recommend finding writing samples of the nibs you are interested.
Thank you Sourabh! I appreciate it. I will definitely keep providing grip diameter measurements as I think it is one of the most important dimensions that determine the comfort of a pen. I will have to send Adam a thank you for the bump!
are all the M205 made equal? I was looking at the different M205 series pens, and they are priced at different points, some are $65 while some goes above $150, do they perform similarly?
I believe in terms of writing performance all current production M200/M205s should be equal. They all use the same nibs and the same piston filling system. Older versions may perform differently.
Hi Mike, $92 is a good price for a new M205. Regarding the nib, the M200/205 models only come with a stainless steel nib. The M200 version has a gold plated stainless nib and gold plated metal trim. The M205 has a chrome stainless steel nib and chrome metal trim. The writing performance should be the same.
Hi RonoTron, That is a good question. If I limit it to medium nibs (since that is the most common size I have owned) the Visconti Pericle has an extremely smooth steel nib. For gold nibs I would put it between a S.T. Dupont Neoclassique and a Porsche Design Tec-Flex (made by Graf von Faber-Castell).
M205, M signifies
Mxxx = Mechanik-Füllhalter (mechanical fountain pen)
Pxxx = Patronen-Füllhalter (cartridge fountain pen)
Rxxx = Roller (rollerball pen)
Dxxx = Druckstift (mechanical pencil)
Kxxx = Kugelschreiber (ballpoint pen)
Thank you for the clarification! This is helpful. I was not aware of the P code.

As for the cap band text not aligning with the clip, you can disassemble the cap and put it back together the way you want
Not really, There is small pimple, on the clip connection point.
Thank you for the comment! That is good to know.

Well done review, i hope that you continue to provide grip diameter measurements.
I got to know about this channel via adam the ink guy!

I found a white M205 for $92 brand new . Would that be better since it doesn’t have a gold Nib?

What's the smoothest nib and pen you have ever used?
