I haven't gotten a chance to review the Blocker notebook I purchased recently because I'm still filling it in. Same with the Bank Paper Notebook, but the production and quality is top notch. This looks fantastic and I can already tell I'll probably be buying a few.
Awesome notebook. I totally agree with your experience of the new TR and old TR paper. Can't wait to get some of these beauties. Congratulations! Hope to meet you at the SF Pen show this weekend!!
@@BlakesBroadcast Hey @BlakesBroadcast! I am so sorry I was not able to make it to the show after all. I will make it next year for sure. I am "Barron" (first name) and just got the Tomoe River notebook. It is just splendid. Love it!! Thank you! Will be getting more. I notice lots of other online sellers carrying the Kokuyo Auxiliary Notebook. I say you were the first. 😆
Preordered the notebook, and it arrived earlier than anticipated. It’s very well done. Blake’s attention to detail is outstanding. Overall an excellent notebook.
Thank you Blake and the Paper Mind for creating this notebook; I received mine in pre-order (a surprise!) a few days ago and I love it!. Technical details and producer of the paper not withstanding, the pages immediately gave me the feeling of the paper I was using years ago: crinkly, crisp, white, smooth, def. smoother than Cosmo Air but toothier than the original one; my Hastil (M) glides on it, other EF nibs experience a bit more feedback. My last two TM notebooks were a Kanso Noto (68gsm) and a Nanami Paper (52gsm) , both very nice but this one takes the price in the current market! The hard cover is great and I especially thank you for introducing a RULED!! TM note book, something that somewhat I was never able to find before. I noticed that the lines are so light that once a page is covered in ink they are barely visible and I absolutely love that effect. I can't start using it for real until 2025 but I have a feeling I'm going to get another one before Christmas. PS: Without degrading the nature of your channel, sometimes a review of other items in the Paper Mind inventory could help. The Zenith stapler is fantastic but it's hard to undertand its charm just from the website. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on both items.
Hi Paolo, thank you so much for your message and your support! I did multiple versions of the ruling for this notebook to get it perfect and I am so glad you noticed! Other future notebooks will likely have a similar ruling. Thank you for the suggestion about the Zenith staplers. I think you are right. They are so nice and we have so many awesome desk accessories, it would be good to give them a video.
I got mine a few days ago and like it very much! It has the same excellent design and solid build as your other notebooks. I mourn the old Tomoe River paper and had not found anything I liked as much, but this paper is a good replacement. Lines are my preference, so thanks for that option. The line spacing is perfect. And the price is good too!
Thank you so much Marcia, I am glad to hear you like it! This Sanzen TR is definitely the best replacement for the original Tomoe River that I've tried.
Looks like a great notebook. I bought one of each of your other types of notebooks a few months ago (still have the hand written note you sent along with them) and they're all fantastic. So good I'm almost afraid to trash them up with my bad handwriting. I'll for sure be getting one of these when I'm in need of another notebook.
Thank you for this comparison - this was very useful for me! The railroading tendency of the Scribo pen was a big surprise. I guess, it has some connection with reduced line widening (of the new paper type), maybe caused by a tiny bit higher water repelling property of surface treatment.
Glad that it was helpful. Modern flex nibs write fine on the new paper but they do seem to want to railroad more. With vintage flex nibs I have no problem on the new TR.
Hi Blake, I'm a bit confused about this Tomoe River paper. Is it designed specifically for fountain pens, because it doesn't seem to perform very well with ink. The ghosting seems excessive, and would be distracting if both sides of the sheet were utilised. The notebooks are priced comparably with other general purpose, quality notebooks, but would it be a waste to use Tomoe River paper with biros, gel pens, rollerballs and fineliners? Many thanks...
Hi Kevin, this paper is designed for fountain pen ink. It is very lightweight at 52gsm which allows you to have many pages in a small space. The drawback of this is ghosting. This paper will not be to everyones taste but there is no other 52 gsm paper that has better opacity than Tomoe River S. Tomoe River shows exhibits no bleeding and no feathering with fountain pens. I do not think it is a waste at all to use Tomoe River with other types of pens as you get the benefit of the excellent writing surface and a compact form factor for 400 pages. In my test, rollerball pens did have a small amount of bleeding.
As a lefty, I always appreciate notebooks that lay flat! I love the idea of the guide too.
Agreed! 🫲🏽
I am not left handed but when a notebook doesn't lay flat it's a deal breaker for me.

Hi Shawn, Thank you so much! I will be there all three days in the main ballroom so please come by and say hello.

I was just looking at these notebooks online today. What a timely review! :)
Awesome! I hope it was helpful.
Just placed an order for one earlier today. Looks like an excellent notebook!
Thank you! I hope you will enjoy it!

Thank you so much! My handwriting is terrible and I've learned you just have to go for it and enjoy the notebook.
Amazing, as usual, Blake!
Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!

Awesome, I want the Dot grid version
The response has been great so far for this notebook so I think a dot grid version will be coming soon.
Looks like another great notebook in a form factor distinct from other offerings. Nicely done!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for creating such a lovely notebook!
It's my pleasure!
Wonderful product that I would love to use. Only the shipping costs to the Netherlands are as high as the price of the notebook itself. 😢
Hopefully in the future I can get lower international rates.
Please consider other sizes like B6 and if possible 5mm grid.
I am fond of the B6 size and will definitely consider doing one in the future in either a 5mm grid or dot grid.
